Tired of chains 8/27/2009

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for more than two years and love this place. We found it in a strip center in Webster but since they have moved to Bay Area blvd. It is much larger place and better location. They we voted one of the top ten new restaurant last year and have some great food. My wife and I are tired of the chains and love to support local owner that give to the community they live in. We have met the owner many times. They treat us great every time we come in. We have tried lots of thing they have but as some people no there crab cake are just the best but what you have to try is there great fried shrimp. What can I say but there just the best we have ever had. The oyster are to die for in the winter. We hope that they make it in there new location as we no with the recession like it is thing are tight but my family wishes the Valentino's all the best. Pros: Best Crab cakes more

Good food 7/2/2009

I have eaten at Valentino's several times at lunch and at dinner. I love the crab cakes. I have never had a problem with them. The food has always been fresh and well served. The environment is a little casual for the price of the food, however, compared to other seafood places the price is inline with the quality of the food. I really liked the environment of the old location better but this location is easier to get to. The wait staff could be better. The best waitress they had is no longer with them. That's a shame. All in all this is a good place to eat and relax during a meal. Pros: great crab cakes more

And the food was so fresh. i had the 24 shrimp plate, the shrimp was the freshest i have ever had. My father had the shrimp and grits, he said it was delicious. WE ARE HOOKED AND WILL RETURN ASAP. Pros: FRESHEST SHRIMP EVER more

Absolutely the worse!!!! 5/9/2009

I dropped in on this joint last month on the saturday with the flooding and storms,,,,April 11 or the 18 I think. I was trying to get across 45 to Pappas, but was there was flooding on the access road and accidents everywhere. So I decided to try this place. First thing I noticed was few cars and a restaurant that was almost empty....You definitely did NOT have to go on a list like you do at Pappas. That was my first sign that this place might not be up to snuff.....Waitress was listless and distracted. I ordered oysters on the half shell and fried shrimp. The second sign of approaching trouble was when she came and unloaded several dishes of food,,,,not the food I ordered!!!!! But we got through that and my oyster appetizers were finally brought to me. I eat lots of oysters, so I know what fresh oysters look like, but these definitely looked strange. Rather than the shiny surface appearance of a ""just shucked"" oyster,, these had a ""glazed"" unshiny surface, like the glazed eye of a dead animal. My first bite exploded the foul flavor in my mouth that told me I'd best expectorate this filth out real fast. I half expected to find a maggot in my mouth. So a few minutes and the waitress returns with my main meal. She did not even comment that I had not eaten 11 of the 12 oysters on ice. Third sign this place was a looser was when I took first bite of the fried shrimp. Again, it was very very hot,,,clearly just out of the frying vat, but had the unmistakeable taste of really not being fresh. I don't know if the cooks know it or not, but if you take spoiled shrimp, batter it good with sauces and flour and cook the hell out of it in super hot grease, it is still going to taste spoiled. I did eat the first shrimp, but no more. Fortunately, I did not get sick. So I tried the cole slaw,,,,,it was warm and tasted funny, like it had been made long ago and not kept at the proper temperature to discourage microbial growth. So after spending $20+ bucks,,,no tip by the way, I had the pleasure of chewing and spiting out one oyster, and eating one fried shrimp. After that, I got up and left the place with the rest of the meal pretty much intact. As untouched as my plates were, I only hope they did not serve them to someone else. In the past I have returned to restaurants that were good, fair or merely mediocre. This restaurant is in a class by itself and I can confidently say I'll never return to this place. Pros: Location Cons: cesspool more

Two Words: Never Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/9/2009

WARNING: DO NOT EAT AT VALENTINO'S. My mom, sister and I went to lunch on a Saturday around 1 pm. The place wasn't very busy for a Saturday, but we still were curious about this place since we had seen it many times coming out of Baybrook Mall. We had a hard time picking items from the menu and the waiter was not very helpful/knowledgable about the menu items. He couldn't even give us a good suggestion. When we ordered, I asked for fish tacos with green beans and asparagus. My sister got the seafood platter and mom got the shrimp/fish combo platter. When the food got to the table...it looked great until we tasted it. It had hardly any salt or spices. The fish tacos were extremely dried and tasted like cardboard. The green beans and asparagus were overly cooked and very oily. This was a huge deal for me because when I ordered, I asked for the vegetables to be simply steamed (due to health reasons). The whole experience was very lackluster. When we gave our feedback to the waiter, he was very nonchalant about it and later came back to the table saying the manager was tto busy to see us (though we didn't ask to speak to the manager). We simply wanted to leave and NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

what real seefood taste like 5/2/2009

I have be to the old location and now the new and they are so different but so glad that nothing happened to the great food. I love the story behind Valentino's and that we now have a real seafood place out there. I went last Friday night with a girlfriend. We had the Margie's fried shrimp and they are nothing like any fried shrimp you will ever see at a chain and you can taste the freshness of the Galveston bay. The hushpuppies were also nothing like the chain you could tell they make them there home made. I would be going back again. Pros: quality of food Cons: service could be a little better more

Great food 4/27/2009

Last night my family and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. I was there about 7:30 and there were several tables. We were happily greated by the host/bartender who took us to our table. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. It had a full bar, lots of neons, and pictures. After being seated we were quickly approached by our waiter that introduced himself and got out drinks. My husband is a crab lover and got the crabcakes. These carb cakes were great. They look like they were mainly crab, and the flavor that they had were so good you could not stop eating them. I had the fresh Halibut blackened. The fish was so deliciious. It tasted like they just got it out of the water. My grandchildren had the chinken fingers. It was nice that the waiter brought their food out first. Our experience here last night was the best that we have had in a long time. Pros: Crab Cakes, fresh fish more

Run in the opposite direction!! 4/18/2009

This was the worst restaraunt experience that my wife and I have ever had. I do not like making negative remarks, but I hope to save many people from this experience. When we entered the establishment we almost left right away. There were few people there on a Saturday at 6:00pm. That is usually a good sign that there is something wrong. What we didn't know was just how much would be wrong! I do not know what was worst, the ambiance, service, dirty dining room, price, or food. This place was a mess. The first thing you see when you enter is the ugly bar which you can see from any table in the establishment. The floors were dirty, the tables were dusty, the host/server did not look like he showered in weeks. and was very rude. I have been fooled by first impressions in the past and wanted to still give this place a chance. We started off with calamari which tasted like rubber and was served with a ginger sauce that didn't help much. My wife got the gumbo soup about 30 minutes later which tasted like canned beef broth with shrimp and no zing. I ordered the crab cakes which were much smaller than expected and served with undercooked french fries and overcooked hush puppies. The server spent most of his time watching the baseball game on tv and never asked us how our food was. This place will not make it through the summer. It is a guaranteed failure. When we left the place, I laughed at the framed picture of the owner, Mark Valentino, on the wall. Who would want to take credit for this place? My advice to anyone wanting to go here is run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. Cons: Everything more

Oh So Yucky 4/14/2009

If I can save one person the unnecessary expense of eating here I will be happy. My husband and I went on a Sunday at 4pm. It was pretty empty aside from the two patrons at the bar and a couple seated in the main eating area. Maybe its not such I good idea to visit a restaurant in broad daylight I thought to myself. It looked as though the floor and tables had not been cleaned from the night before. We are seated. My husband notices the napkin containing his silverware is dirty. I check mine out and yes, it is dirty as well. I let the waiter know. We get clean ones. Next my husband is served flat cola. We are informed the carbonation machine is down and are offered various un-carbonated beverages. When the raspberry ice tea comes there is lipstick on the glass. I go to use the ladies room. On my way out I look into the portion of the kitchen visible to me. It looks disgusting from the small area I can see. I go back to my table and really want to leave but stay anyway. Our dinner comes. My fried oysters are barely warm and taste bitter. The fried okra is like rubber. The hushpuppies are burnt. My husbands seafood platter is bland, the shrimp over cooked, the bacon around the shrimp undercooked. It was just horrible. I?m disgusted. On the way out the owners picture is posted on the wall. I?m embarrassed for him. Cons: Everything more

Horrible! 3/6/2009

My girlfriend and I decided to try Valentino's for the first time on March 4th. What drew us was the nearby location to our home and the live jazz music. Our waiter was not very talkative and treated us as more of a nuisance rather than guests. We started with Caesar salads. Unfortunately most of the lettuce was old and brown. We sent hers back and upon return, the waiter brought another salad out, this time less brown, but nonetheless, still brown. We proceeded to order some appetizers to sample their menu. Pros: the music Cons: everything else more
