Exceptional care 5/28/2012

My pets received EXCEPTIONAL care at Povar Animal hospital. I have one and two dogs – one dog has chronic issues. \r I ended up seeing Ceri Sveilich most often (again EXCEPTIONAL) but each veterinarian and staff member was great. They treated animals and people professionally and courteously. And you could tell they all love animals! They looked for the cause of problems, offered treatments and explained how invasive each option would be. They also informed you of the cost of each treatment prior to treatment. All costs seemed reasonable.\r They went above and beyond to collaborate with experts and emergency care. Even routine appointments (shots, grooming etc..) were thorough. \r I have been too other vet clinics (in VT,CT, NYC) – and the care and knowledge at Povar Animal hospital is top rate. more

Sloppy and Expensive 4/3/2011

I brought my senior pug, Eliot, to see Dr. Coustan because I thought he might have an ear infection. After quickly looking at his ears, Dr. Coustan said they were fine. Then she performed some other tests without informing me of the (expensive) charges ahead of time. Her final diagnoses was that Eliot was fine. I wasn't convinced and took Eliot to another vet. After a more thorough exam, we discovered that he had a SEVERE ear infection. Very angry that Eliot had to endure needless suffering because of Povar's sloppy work. more

Thanks 8/11/2010

A month ago my house burned down in the middle of the night, Buddy and I got out of the house with all but nerves intact. By 8:00 AM it was 90 degrees out; and the AC in my vehicle wasn't working. I took Buddy for a swim at the local lake to cool down; incidentally as we were leaving I got a flat tire. After an hour or so at the auto repair shop we were going back to the lake as the temp was now 101 degrees and climbing. \r I got the great idea of taking him to PetCo; they let dogs in the store and have a grooming service. I spoke with the manager and told her my story and asked if they would "groom" and kennel my Labrador for 2-3 hours. I of course told them I would pay for the grooming even tho no trim was needed. Sorry, against store policy......... I was screaming pissed; to say the least.\r I drove to Povar Animal hospital; and they immediately rushed my dog in for a check-up. Once it was determined he was fine, they offered to kennel Buddy until I could secure a place for us to sl more

Dr. Povar is the best! 1/15/2010

Dr. Povar is the best! Our dog, Buddy, has had many major problems in his short 6 years of life and Dr. Povar has treated him with the utmost of care each time. Buddy has a rare condition and specialists wanted to put him on experimental drugs. Dr. Povar found a solution and Buddy is healthy and full of life due to Dr. Povar. more

THANKS FOR NOTHING! 8/28/2009

I am from out of town and needed to get heartworm meds for my dog. I had a written prescription from another facility that did not carry what she is usually on and since i did not bring my dog to this vet ... the vet would not fill the script. I guess since they weren't getting the money for the vet visit ... which she did not need ... they wouldn't let me buy the meds. Thanks alot for helping out a visitor Povar. more

A NIGHTMARE 8/1/2009

We took are puppy to povar for vaccination and a general check up, they ordered stool sample and we were told the results came back positive for a parasite call GIARDIA which can be transfer to humans, and the treatment was 2 types of antibiotic for 5 days and strict hygiene and isolation of the dog, after the treatment we were told that a second stool sample was necessary to check again for the parasite and when they have the results they will give us a call and we brought them the second stool sample, they did not call back about the results and they knew that the dog was still in isolation waiting for the results, we got tired of waiting and called them, one of the receptionist answer and told us that the test was negative and we were very please, a couple of day later we got a phone call from Povar telling us that the dog was positive for GIARDIA and that the prescription was ready. We couldn't trust them any more and took our dog to another vet hospital were they did a tes more

Bless Ceri Sceilich DVM 7/22/2009

Dr. Ceri Sveilich is tops!! Her knowledge of veterinary medicine is astounding. She takes care of my small dog and treats him with such kindness. I also admire the staff. They are the best. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I will, however, never see Dr. Alderman. He has no compassion whatsoever. He should not be near animals!!! more

Absolute WORST 2/5/2008

I took my dog here because he wasn’t eating and was throwing up. They immediately wanted to do exploratory surgery. I wasn’t able to come up with astronomical amount of money that they were requesting instantly. They told me that if I did not act soon, he could die and would be in a great deal of pain. These are the options they gave me:\r - Put him to sleep\r - Sign him over to the vet. Then they would make the decision to do the surgery or not. If the did do the surgery, and he recovered, they would then adopt him out to SOMEONE ELSE!\r I was beside myself, hysterical; I had no idea what to do. I called a friend and she recommended that I go for a second opinion at the Ocean State animal hospital in East Greenwich. I drove from povar straight to the ocean state vet. They gave him fluids and PEPCID AC AND HE WAS FINE! Just an hour earlier I was faced with the decision of giving him up or killing him. He has been fine since. I will never ever go to POVAR again. more

Great Vet 2/27/2006

Povar has been a wonderful vet to my little guy. The Drs. and staff are wonderful. The atmosphere has just been remodled and is bar none (better than most human hospitals) Very clean!!! The prices are a bit on the high side compared to other vets in the area but I think it is worth every penny! more

Dr. Povar. 9/5/2005

I enjoy all my visits to Povar. For the most part, they have friendly Dr.'s and technicians. I have six cats and I trust Dr. Povar with caring for all of them. I usually deal with Dr. Povar himself, and I feel like he truely cares for my cats as if they were his own. When our cats have medical visits there, the people at Povar call about two days later asking how our pets feel. My family also orders special Science Diet cat food direct from Povar and they even call when the food comes in. I reccomend going to Povar. more
