I would not recommend this facility under any circumstances. My Black Lab was having a litter of puppies on 8/9. She had 5 puppies with no issues but then she began heavy labor for almost 4 hours. I took her to this location for emergency care. They were way more worried about the money versus the health of my girl. After a brief exam, by the way conducted in the lobby, I was told that there was a puppy, out of the sack and hung inn the birth canal. A second attempt to pull the pup out resulted in a diagnosis that was not good. She said she felt that the she had broken the back legs of the pup and that she was sure it was dead. We talked about a c-section and spaying. I had planned to have her fixed sometime after the pups were born but not this soon. The cost..... wait for it....$1900.00 which included the visit plus an X-ray. No problem but at 4:00am i didn't have that and they refused to treat until payment was received. Mind you at this point we still are in the lobby. I told them I would be able to pay the amount first thing Monday morning. Not good enough. As it turns out it was the best thing that happened. My vet would be opening in a couple of hours so I took her home to wait. While we were waiting she had 4 more pups with no issues. No broken legs and all still in the birth sack.\r \r I would highly discourage anyone from using this vet hospital. Not worried about the health of our best friends but just a money thing. I don't want anyone looking at my pet that doesn't have their well being first and foremost. I do understand that some people may not end up paying but my girl would have been left there until very late Sunday or Monday anyway. I guess they didn't think I would come back for her.\r \r Again I would recommend you stay away from this group. There are other options. more

If you’re looking for CORPORATE BUSINESS APPROACH to veterinary care then, this is the place for you. Building is new but, rooms and exam tables are always FILTHY with dirt and hair. They PUSH medication and food they carry and will give a major attitude if you request otherwise. What they do dispense for medication is NOT in manufacturer bottling rather, its re-bottled and labeled from VCA (Obviously ordered in bulk to maximize profit yet, there is NO INSERT with information, side effects and warnings given with the medication they dispense.) Wouldn’t the Veterinarian caring for your pet find that important information for you to have? The manufacturer does and pharmacies do. The COST of medication, supplements and vitamins is DOUBLE what you can find online at accredited websites like California Pet Pharmacy and Vet Source. Flea and heart worm products are locally half price of VCA at Coastline Pet Supply on 707. They PUSH TESTING for everything, I mean everything. Can’t check your pet’s ears without an ear scraping at over $100. Can’t give antibiotic without blood work over $100. Everything has to be blood work, put under a microscope or x-rayed; it’s all about the dollar. Then, they DON'T even CALL you with the test results. Be prepared to have to go retrieve results yourself and good luck getting any answers or return phone call. It takes several phone calls for medications to be refilled then, you will be made to feel like you are a burden. DR. BISHOP who is the Medical Director at VCA will take it upon herself to intervene on your pets medical care and test results. She is not helpful rather; she is the RUDEST and most EGOTISTICAL doctor I’ve ever dealt with. She will make assumptions and generalizations on blood work without knowing your pet or their medical history. If you are looking for a caring, empathic, honest veterinary care then, you will want to GO ELSEWHERE. I have dealt with VCA for years, paid out thousands of dollars and have been very patient and forgiving but, my last dealing with their antics is the last straw. My pets are like my CHILDREN and they DESERVE quality care without feeling like a burden or breaking the bank. more

I highly recommend this veterinary hospital. The staff here is very compassionate. I've taken many of my exotic pets here and they've been well taken care of. Dr. Winkel specializes in rats and birds and she has been exceptional with my rats and my birds. The fact that they are open 24/7 is very convenient. The facility is up to date and the accommodations for exotic pets are top of the line. more

My dog a pit bull was coughing earlier this year and we took her there on a saturday. The doctor told us she had lung worms, but didn't give her an x-ray just assumed. we sat there for over an hour waiting on the doctor to go look up the meds. On Monday we went to our vet got an x-ray it was allergies.\r \r My other dog a boxer/lab had bite wounds all over his legs bc of a fight over a toy. We just walked in and got in a room quickly, the vet told us they weren't serious and should heal quickly and that she'd just cut the hair around 2 or 3 of them and send us home with antibiotics. We sat there for almost 2 hours, when they vet asst./tech came back and mentioned the bill was going to be around $320. When my mom gasped, she told us it was so high because they were going to inject him with antibiotics ($180.00) The injection wasn't necessary (my dog wasn't dying) and on top of that the Dr. never discussed it with us. We asked for the pills instead ($60 instead of $180). They took him back to cut the hair away and clean it (10 minutes) and just for that it was $87.00, when Carolina Forest charges around $28.00. I will NEVER go there again! more

Do NOT GO Here!! This is the worst place and the most expensive. Very aloof attitude and poor communication. I lost 2 pets at this vet. A necropsy was suggested, so we paid to have one done and didn't get the courtesy of a phone call to discuss the results. (He emailed them to me) The Prices are quite a bit higher than most places. They charge 68.00 for an exotic visit-to walk in the door, I am now paying 40.00 for exotic. VCA charged 37.00+ for an eye stain test..I just paid 17.00. I'd highly recommend Ark Animal Hospital in Surfside. 7 vets and a large compassionate staff. Can't beat their prices and I've been there twice and still have my pet. Sadly, I cannot say that for my last 2 pets, -More-so do NOT see Dr. Stone-their so called exotic vet. He seems to second-guess what he wants to do -with poor communication skills. more

Worst Vet ever 2/13/2012

When I took my dog for his rabies, everyone was very aloof and rushed me. They tried to get me to spend a fortune on various tests, prescription foods, and other items that were completely unnecessary. They are all about making a buck, not your pet's health. When I found a large tumor on my cat, I called for an appointment. They couldn't fit me in for 2 days. As worried as I was, I had no choice but to wait. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment time. An hour after my appointment time, I was still sitting in the waiting room and my cat was now feverish and stressed like I'd never seen him (he'd never been in a carrier that long). I finally left two hours PAST my appointment time without being seen because my cat was so sick from stressing out. When I called to obtain the records for my cat and my dog, they could not find them. Even when I called the next day, they still had not found them. more

All about the money 12/16/2010

I went for the first and last time coming away with an instintive feeling of it being all about the money. From start to finish there was more emphasis on the cost than the welfare of my dog. The first communication was about what the office visit would cost. Then they had me sign an agreement as to what the total cost would be to make sure I would be able to pay. I brought my dog there for an eye issue. At one point the vet came in saying I should do a fecal test when they could clearly see by her records she was up to date with all shots, tests and on monthly heartguard. The clear indicator was when paying the bill for 126.00 for doing a couple of procedures on her eye and not even listening to her heart and lungs was enough for me to say never again. What truly sealed the deal was looking at the bill which had a breakdown of what was done by them as well as what she is up to date for. Her previous Vet faxed records over because we moved to Myrtle Beach recently. The last was a list o more

Excellent Care 11/20/2005

Very professional, caring and modern veterinarians. The facility is up to date, the Vets continue their training and are very conscious of the newest technologies and they are a full service hospital. The hospital usually has three veterinarians on staff, and at least two are there at all times and that makes it convenient for appointments even though they are very busy at times. PROS: Great care CONS: Rarely it's hard to get an appointment more
