Dr. Silkman is the best veterinary we have ever had (He is number 7). He is very knowledgeable and caring to humans and pets. We travel a great distance in order to have Dr. Silk...

Response To Stephanie M 2/4/2011

Words can?t express how sorry we are for the loss of Stephanie M?s pet who is mentioned in the review below. We are also disappointed that when we provided their family with the best care, in the middle of the night, when not many other places are even available, Stephanie M is unhappy with our services and questions our compassion for caring for animals, especially when none of these concerns were expressed that evening.\r It is surprising and disappointing to hear the hostility in Stephanie M?s review listed below, considering their family expressed nothing but gratitude for everything we did for their pet?s life until recently, 3 months after the procedure.\r It is true, as with many other businesses, that we require a deposit, not a ?full payment?, before pursuing a large procedure or surgery. This does not mean that we do not care about pets or only care about money. If we don?t require these deposits or get paid for our services, we cannot continue to provide high more

Wonderful Hospital 2/4/2011

My husband and I are avid Labrador Retriever owners who train, compete and hunt with our Labs. For almost two decades, we have come to rely upon Dr. Silkman and the Jordan River Animal Hospital for the highest quality of care available for our dogs. With outstanding veterinarian practioners and well-trained staff, Jordan River Animal Hospital (AAHA Accredited) is equipped with state of the art medical technology to provide the best care for our dogs.\r \r An example of what ?highest quality care? has meant to us;\r \r 1) While training in the state of Maine, one of our dogs experienced traumatic spinal discomfort and was barely able to move. At that time, there were only three board certified neurological specialists (DVM?s) in the country and one was in Maine. After a lengthy and expensive exam by the specialist, we were told that our dog had a rare cancer and needed to have immediate surgery. Having doubts about the diagnosis, we contacted Dr. Terry Silkman due to our belief in his more

Horrible animal hospital where money is priority instead of care. 1/31/2011

I just have a few things to say about this very over priced hospital and money first policy place. I took my very loved family member there, boy what a mistake! I was about 11:30 at night and they called in Jennifer L Nitsche, DVM to see our dog a 4 1/2 year old Weimaramer who was part of my family since he was 10 weeks old! After a short visit she took him back to do some x-rays and came back in to tell my son and I that it was very bad and time was very important to try to save him! She could not treat him with out full payment of $4264.17. I begged her to save him and I would get the money! They do not take payments or checks! I did not have a credit card with a high limit so I had to call my parents! She said it is there policy not to treat until you pay in full! (even though I signed a paper claiming financial responsibility for any treatment performed) This all took time to get done! After my mom gave them a card and they ran it, my very loved family member died! They still ch more

Unprofessional 12/28/2010

I would not recommend going to Jordan River EVER!!! We brought our Newfie in, not being able to move, couldnt conrol his bowels, shaking, and had a tempurture of 106. They told us they would not do anything until we could provide 1200 dollars. i am not mad about the money i understand vet bills can get high, but i am mad that they were not willing to help my dog out until we had that infront of them. they did drop his temperature, but thats about it they told us nothing. We ended up taking him to cottonwood vet hospital and they were very knowledgeable and were able to tell us things it could be. and might i add ALOT less expensive then Jordan River! I defiantly feel Jordan River is about the money and not the pet. more

Check your math Keri 7/1/2010

Looks like Jordan River is about $12 cheaper than what the average price is for the Influenza vaccine. That math doesn't seem to add up Keri. $30 for the exam and $28 for the vaccine is $58, not $86 as you stated. Might want to invest in a calculator before you start making accusations like you're doing here. more

Ridiculous charges 7/1/2010

Although I agree Dr. Gillespie is a good vet. I am beyond disappointed and out right angry with the billing practices. According to http://www.usatoday.com/life/lifestyle/pets/2009-08-30-canine-flu_N.htm the canine flu shot should cost around $40.00. Well, for my two dogs at Jordan River Animal Hospital, it cost me $172.00. $28 for each dog for the original and booster shot and a "Brief exam fee of $30" per dog. Are you kidding me????? For me to walk in and have a tech take each of my dogs back, give them the shot and bring them back to me it cost me $86 each dog each. That is double any price I have found at any vet anywhere. We signed up for the $700 annual program--can you say SCAM? It still costs us over $100 each time we go in for a "covered" service. After 4 years, I will finish my "covered" services and never look back. I prefer a vet that puts the animal first and not one that is only concerned with the $! more

Love Dr Gillespie and staff 5/13/2010

Dr Gillespie at Jordan River is one of the best vets in the valley. All the doctors at Jordan River really know their stuff and they and their staff are all extremely hard working and friendly. Yes, getting all the medical needs of your pet met can be expensive at times, especially if you have an emergency situation. But, speaking as someone who has worked at several veterinary offices, I would not trust any other clinic more with the care of my pets. more

Great when allowed to do their job 4/29/2010

Regarding lindsayeden's one star review. I am an employee of the animal hospital and am familiar with this case. The client brought the cat in to our hospital after having it vaccinated elsewhere. (She must have been upset with the other clinic as well.) She was given an estimate for recommended testing and hospitalization but told us she could only spend $350.00. Tests were chosen to give the best chance of a diagnosis. Unfortunately, a diagnosis was not able to be made with the constraints placed on the doctor by the client. The client took the pet home with medications to try to treat the symptoms. Sadly the pet died at home. We offer cremation services for deceased pets through a private contractor. The client called and informed us that her pet had died and asked what to do with the body. We informed her of her options and she brought the pet in for cremation services but didn't want to pay or sign before she had a chance to speak with the doctor. Knowing the loss of a pet is an emotional time, we often will hold the remains for the client while they decide what to do. She was allowed to leave her pet with us until the doctor could speak with her. The doctor called multiple times, leaving messages for her to return his call, but she never did. Finally, a bill for services was sent to the owner after 3 months. After receiving the bill, they immediately called the hospital and accused us of misdiagnosing the disease and not caring. Unfortunately, we were not able to diagnose the problem with their pet or treat it with the constraints placed upon us by the client. We can't even be sure the pet died of the same symptoms since it was not in our care. It could have easily recovered, then ran outside and drank antifreeze. Once out of our care, as the client requested, we had no control. This does not make this client exempt from paying for services though. Pros: 24 hour service more

I LOVE jordan river animal hospital. Downside is they are more expensive than other clinics, but as with most things; you get what you pay for. Ask for an estimate before you agree to anything, I always do and they more than happily provide one. Great Drs and staff. more

Very unprofessional. 3/12/2010

I haven't ever written a poor review before but my horrific interactions with this place warrants others to know how poorly my animal and myself were treated. Brought in a kitten I had only had for 24 hours. The kitten was clearly in an emergent situation (couldn't stand up, was shaky and had no balance whatsoever). Upon initial check over, Dr.Gillespie took the kitten, checked her and brought her back stating that all the labs and other tests he had quickly run showed that she was just a bit out of it and should get better. I knew the cat was suffering but $350 and a handshake later, he assured me that the cat would recover. I took the cat home, still very concerned as I imagined that she was in pain. I checked on the kitten a few hours later and she had died in her bed. I felt like this could have been prevented. Long story short, they were unethical with the way they managed the care for this kitten (which was really nothing) and completely rude and unethical regarding remains of the kitten and showed very little respect to myself and my husband in person and over the phone. Like I said, I really don't write reviews, especially BAD ones, but this was awful! I will never bring an animal back to this clinic nor refer anyone to use this clinic. I understand that animals pass away but the way that Dr. Gillespie and his staff handled this situation was terribly unprofessional and inhumane. My business goes elsewhere and I have found that the Sandy Animal Clinic is just fantastic! Wish I had gone there first! Pros: Nothing Cons: Unkind staff/doctor, innacurate information, poor diagnosis more

They saved my dog's life! 4/29/2009

Around 2:30am my husband and I woke up to our dog thrashing violently on the floor. Panicking, we loaded up in the car and drove straight to Jordan River because we knew they saw emergencies. They ran a few tests and determined that our dog had gotten into snail bait and his condition was not good. It took four days for him to turn around but he made a full recovery and is home with us now. I'm so grateful for Jordan River and the care they gave our little Moki. I would recommend them to anyone. more
