I had my 2 Labradoodle puppies spayed and they came home that evening acting as if nothing had happened, and you could barely notice the incision and sutures on their tummies - we didn't even need a cone on their heads. Doc Silkman does fantastic work and gives our pets awesome care. Thanks Doc. more

For 3 year I couldn't afford what they wanted me to pay for my 14 year old dogs teeth. I have no respect for them now. My dog has suffered because I didn't find a better alternative. He is now happy and health after all this time by going to Hunter Animal Hospital. I went 3 days before to Jordan River about him and it was going to cost $2000 (they said it was 1/2 price if I did it before the year which was 12/31). He is now happy and pain free since 2 day ago ((1/5/14) and I paid $700. more

I've submitted several rebuttal reviews that you have declined to post. It is unfortunate that any malcontent, small-minded individual who desires to tear a business down gets free access to your platform. But a person who invests years of investment, career building, and provided employment for multiple individuals beyond themselves is restricted from the opportunity to present the truth. Myself and the Paula Dean's of the world will carry on. The question that should occur is that when Barack Obama and people like you have killed off or driven away people like me who will be left to employ or provide services for people like you. more

If you like over paying. 1/10/2013

So reading all these review on botched stitches rings way too familiar. Believe the negative reviews folks. I've moved on and got a good vet and I realize how terrible this place is. I'm not even sure how they are still in business. (Overpriced services and praying on your fears I assume.) My dog ripped his leg open. It cost $600 to have the stitches done. Whatever. I love my dog so much I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is right off the bat it looked like a 2 year old stitched my dog up. I took the week off. I watched my dog like a hawk. Two days later the stitches started to ooze. They looked really red and loose. I called in and he told me not to worry about it. WRONG. Three days later (Five days after the surgery) The stitches were so loose (not ripped) that his skin started to spread and I could see the meat underneath. It was a Saturday, so emergency fee plus a FULL PRICE STITCH and it was another $700. I confronted him and asked why such a bad job was done. He said my dog breed has tight skin and he kind of expected the stitches to possibly come out. It was such a terrible experience .Anyone I have ever talked to that has been to that vet has also had terrible experience. If you read this and take it seriously it will save you money and heartache from putting your loved ones health in a sub par vets hands. more

I took my dog Maggie on night into Jordan River Animal Hospital, I was worried that they wouldn't do a good job, or I wouldn't be able to afford the emergancy for Maggie. When I arrived at Jordan River Animal Hospital Dr. Silkman was there and waiting for my Maggie, just as the tech said when I called previously to tell them I was on my way. Before I knew it Dr. Silkman was back up, and informed me what was going on, what my options were, and asked what i was able to do for my dog. I appreciated him being straight forward and direct with me, and if i didn't understand a medical term, he would explain it to me so i could understand everything he was telling me. Dr.Silkman worked quickly on my dog. Surprisingly I was able to take my dog home that night. The next day I recieved a call a call from Dr. Silkman himself, asking how my Maggie was doing. I have never had a Dr fallow up like that, even though he didn't seem to show emotion or anything while I was there the night before, It was comforting that I knew he did care about my Maggie and told me I could give him a call with any questions anytime. I sure did take good use of that comment. I returned for a recheck and still felt welcomed. I now transferred vets and both my hound dogs go there for everything, even just for yearly vaccines. Even though they are a little more expensive, in the long run i know they don't cut corners and it will be worth it just to be able to expand my family's (my dogs Maggie & Molly) time with me just a little longer. Jordan River Animal Hospital is the only vet I would ever take my pets. more

I have been going to Jordan River Animal Hospital for about 6 years and have never had any problems with them. I think some of the reviews below are not accurate opinions of them. Yes I agree they are more expensive then some of the other hospital I have been to in the past, but you get what you pay for. I do not mind paying a bit more because I know my dog will always come home safe and I trust them. I hope this helps give people a different view of them. more

I took my 7 1/2 year old pure bred Basset in because we noticed he had a growth (tumor) by his back leg in October. Our normal vet, Dr. Gillespie was not there, so I spoke with Dr. Terry Silkman. When I spoke with Dr. Silkman, I advised him numerous of times that we see Dr. Gillespie and Dr. Silkman NEVER advised me that he was no longer there. He advised that my Basset needed surgery and gave us a list of expenses. One of the expenses was a biopsy of the tumor. When I asked Dr. Silkman what they all do concerning the biopsy, all he told me was it was to insure that he got all of the tumor. Dr. Silkman did not tell me that the biopsy of the tumor tells them what stage it is in or what kind of tumor it was. Our bill/statement list of expenses ranged from $1,000.00 to $1600.00. When my husband took our dog in for the surgery, the cost was the high of $1600.00 when he came and picked him up. When my husband asked for more detail of the bill, the front desk person advised that she would need to get the doctor. Dr. Silkman came out and yelled at my husband for even asking for him to explain the expenses. My husband advised Dr. Silkman that we usually have Dr. Gillespie look at our dogs and that is when we found out that our vet, Dr. Gillespie was no longer there. Because of the unprofessionalism, we decided to take our dog to another vet after the staples were removed from the surgery. We took our dog back in 2 weeks later, got the staples removed and all Dr. Silkman said was he looked good. He did not advise us of anything to look for within the next few weeks. Within a week, our basset got an infection and we noticed that there was fluid around the incision. We then took him to a new vet and they looked at him and gave us some medication for the inflammation and the infection. A week later, our basset for 7 1/2 years died within a month from getting his surgery from Dr. Silkman. I cannot believe that Dr. Silkman is even in business still, the way he treats his customers. His professionalism and care for the pet owners and the pets are despicable. I spoke to our new vet and asked why our basset died and he advised that it was tumor related. If we knew what we knew now, we would have gotten the biopsy done and made a decision on what to do from that biopsy. We really did not have the information needed to make an educated decision. It just seems all they wanted was our money and nothing else. Dr. Silkman as no compassion, no professionalism and all he cared about was how much money to soak us with. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!! more

This vet is ridiculously overpriced I originally went there for emergency services And the vet I saw Erin Mcgillic was wonderful I felt she genuinely cared about my dog which is the reason I had Dr. Silkman do the ACL repair on my dog it cost 2 to 3 times what it would have elsewhere I have since found out, I was not at all impressed with Dr. Silkman's people skill's I felt like he was alway's talking down to me and I didn't feel he was very compassionate he did do an excellent job on the repair though but in suturing her leg he puckered the skin which after healing turned into a large skin tag about the size of a marble I didn't want to put her through more surgery just for cosmetic reason's so I didn't pursue it but over the course of the summer while out camping we have had 2 separate instances where she ripped it playing in the brush, when I contacted the vet's office I was told I would have to pay a 50.00 office visit for Dr. Silkman to look at it and give me an estimate to remove it I couldn't believe it they wanted me to pay him to fix his mistake unbelievable! Don't go here there are other Vets that are just as good that will not rape you financially. FYI: Erin Mcgillic no longer work's there and I am presently trying to locate her so I can take my dog's to someone I feel good about. more

Unprofessional and Rude 10/17/2012

DO NOT GO HERE! My dog was dying on the table in front of the doctor and after nearly $500 in testing he could not even guess to a diagnosis or even give us options. He just kept rambling on and on and on about nonsense. He did offer to do more ridiculously overpriced testing however but I got the feeling he just thought "well he's old so he's probably just going to die". After putting up with him listening to himself talk for way too long we finally left. Another vet performed the same tests at 1/4 of the price and came up with a diagnosis, sent us home with simple medication and my dog healed and is doing fantastic.\r \r I had a previous experience with this same hospital where my dog had a bacterial infection and they sent us home with what I understood was just an antibiotic. Wrong. This particular antibiotic has a high tendency of serious side effects. I know this because after my dog started pacing through the house, then losing control of his limbs, and drooling incessantly, I loo more

I have been going to Dr. Silkman for years. Recently I took my dog in and unfortunately she passed away. I have read some of these reviews and they don?t paint a fair picture of Dr. Silkman. I am 100% confident in his abilities and I believe that he did everything he could. The staff is great and they are very nice. Like I mentioned, I have been going to them for years and will continue to go to them in the future. They are great! more

I have to agree with everyone here that has experienced this awful place. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! They really are there for just the money and could care less for any pet you bring in. more

Ridiculously Over Priced !!! 3/8/2012

Nice Hospital, But they make you pay for it. Staff was friendly. If you dont mind paying the same cost as a human would in a hospital with no insurance. This is your place! My initial costs were over 1200.00 for just a x-ray, lab tests and other hospital costs. If he needed surgery which he did then the costs were over 3000.00. on top of the first 1200.00. We finally found our old doctor and the costs were a 1/8 Of what Jordan River wanted. This Hospital in my opinion is not in practice for the care of animals. Just how much cash they can bleed from your bank account. I am not cheap when it comes to our pets. But i am convinced that they prey on pet owners when they are in a vulnerable state. My advice is to stay clear and call around. There is many good vets in the SLC area that will not ask you to pay for their pretty hospital. more

Nice place, liked the staff. 4/2/2011

I was online looking for a new vet since I just moved to the area. I decided to go in here because when I called about my sick cat they got me in right away. Everyone was really nice and they fixed my cat up with just some medications. I didn't feel like they were selling her short on care but gave her just what she actually needed. I plan to go back and would recommend these guys to my friends or family. more

Please please please do NOT use this facility! 3/29/2011

Please please please do NOT use this facility! I'm serious. We took our dog in on a Sunday evening for a broken leg. Not only did the doctor tell us the break was a lot worse than it actually was, but they insisted that she needed emergency surgery. The cost they quoted us for the surgery was $4300.00. After scrutinizing their list of "needed" proceedures during and after the surgery we realized that there were A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of optional therapies, x-rays, post op visits, etc that were not even necessary. Dr. Gillespie told us that she absolutely had to have the surgery. There were no other options presented to us. We were devastated knowing that we could not afford the surgery that she needed. They led us to believe that if she didn't have the surgery, she would have to be put down. It was awful. Long story short, we decided to take her home that evening to decide what to do. During that night we decided to take her to her regular vet for a second opinion the next morning. W more

Great dedication/service/compassion 3/8/2011

A quick comment to those upset with the cost of services offered from Jordan River Animal Hospital. You get what you pay for!! I had a Labrador who broke her leg running in the rain in a rocky area early in the morning. I called the hospital and despite not being open, someone came right in to be there so we could bring her in. Just like everyone else, we had to put a large deposit down as our dog had to have surgery. We found out that her surgery wouldn't be later that day so they let us bring in her blanket and spend as much time before and after the surgery as we wanted with her. We were very grateful and yes, we too made payments on that surgery. For those who think it's all about money.....this is for you. What we found out later is Dr. Silkman did the surgery later that day because he was attending the funeral of his grand daughter. He left family and friends that had flown from out of state to support him and his family so he could come in and help our pet who was part of more

Don't take your pet here. 2/23/2011

Every time I have taken a pet there, I was told that the Vetenarian would examine my pet behind closed doors to me. I had one pet that needed a spay and the vetinarian did more things to my pet than was authorized and expected payment for unauthorized work done. Every pet I have taken in has somehow had a joint problem supposedly. I think this vet is out for your money. I do think I will go elsewhere from now on. more
