Terrible! 4/15/2011

Wow!! this place is there to make money and cares very little if at all about the pets. my dog has congestive heart failure and i ran out of meds while i waited to get the results of her blood work from her visit this week. i didnt order meds in case her last visit resulted in a change of medications. long story short my vet ran out of pills my dog needs and gave me a written prescription to fill somewhere else. i called this place and that have the meds in stock but they wont fill my prescription unless one of their vets sees my dog and runs all the tests that i just spent $200 on at my vets 4 days ago. my vet was willing to fax her file over for the vet at VCA to review and they still denied my dog the meds because in their words they are "owned by a corporation that does not allow that" WOW!!! i thought vets were in the business of caring for pets not ripping their owners off. terrible place! terrible morals! terrible practice! never EVER going there again. Stay away from this place more

They saved my dogs life. 2/19/2011

My spanador was struck by a truck and ran over twice. I took her to the vet. They saved my dogs life. They fixed her collar bone and she is better than she ever was.\r \r I don't care what the other people say. I am eternally grateful to Bonita pet hospital for saving my dogs life.\r \r Best wishes. more

Incompetent doctors and indifferent staff 10/7/2010

Our dog Chester would still be alive if we did not take him to Bonita Pet Hospital. It was the only hospital open when Chester was vomitting. Vet Townsend immediately cut him up and cut out a major portion of his small intestines. After Townsend was paid $3000+, he discharged Chester. There was no follow up of any sort although Townsend knew Chester's condition was critical (Townsend later said this after Chester died and my husband demanded an explanation). Chester died 5 days after he got out of the hospital. To you Townsend, and to this hospital, the best way you can help people is to stop practicing. Don't you know that our pets are part of our families? You do not deserve to be part of this profession. As I read the other reviews here, I am convinced the only reason that Chester had undergone the surgery that he had was so this hospital could make as much as money as they could out of the situation. more

Great Care 6/16/2010

The veterinarians and assistants at Bonita Pet Hospital are wonderful. They were so comforting when we had to put our beloved Neiko down. They have been great with our Rottweiler, Angel. We are very thankful to them all. more

Excellent 5/27/2010

Bonita Pet Hospital has an excellent reputation. They take very good care of my pets and have great prices so I know I can afford to really care for them. more

Great Prices and Care 5/20/2010

Bonita Pet Hospital has been where we have been taking our animals for over 20 years. They have excellent pricing and they take excellent care of our beloved pets. more

Pricey.. 5/18/2010

My little dog was attacked by another dog, we rushed to this Pet Hospital. They worked on him immediately, he had a few cuts nothing major. the only reason I rushed him to the hospital was beause he seem to be in shock. the total cost was $900.00.. I thought it was pretty pricey more

Mrs. H 5/17/2010

We have taken many of our pets to Bonita Pet Hospital .. for 15 years now. They have taken good care of them all - for many years they had the same Dr.'s but lately there have many new ones. The nurses up front are helpful and have been there a long time and recognize you and your pets. more

DON'T GO THERE 2/15/2010

THEY MURDERED MY DOG. \r I rue the day I took my dog there. They gave my 5 year old Labrador such a horrible painful death that I wish I had just put him to sleep instead. Not to mention a $5000 vet bill because they insisted that the dog be subject to a battery of tests and 1 week of emergency care which he didn't need. I still get nightmares about this every single night. DON'T TAKE YOUR DOG THERE. Pros: NONE WHATSOEVER Cons: THE DOCTORS more

Loyal Customer 2/16/2009

I have been taking my dogs to Bonita Pet Hospital since the late 90's. The staff has always treated my dogs with great care. I have recommended many friends to this hospital and they have also been really satisfied. more

When a puppy is family and has to be saved 1/7/2009

When my dog jumped and slipped on the tile floor, we took our 5 month old puppy to Bonita. The Dr's were amazing and so were the staff. That was 4 years ago and the knee surgery remains a success. more

What I saw 12/27/2008

I have read these reviews and I have never seen what they are talking about. When I go there everybody is super kind and caring. They treat my dog great and she loves it there. Dr. Tomblin was able to explain to me what was wrong with her eye when 3 other vets had no idea. He gave me a book that shows exactly what was wrong and there was nothing to be worry about. When I talked to Dr. Bernhard about my Jack Russell he was very kind and caring. If he had been my veterinarian in Florida my dog would be alive today. I don't know about you but I don't mind paying for results. I would rather have GREAT vets than lower prices, and from what I have seen the prices aren't that bad. Veterinarian Care is expensive everywhere. My dog sleeps right beside me and I want the best quality medicine I can get for him. \r I would highly recommend Bonita to all my friends. Pros: Great Veterinarians, Kind staff more

This is how it really is. Judge for yourself. 11/17/2008

\r I used to be employed at Bonita, and I wish all of these people with negative comments could see what it's like from the employee's point of view. NOBODY who works there agrees with any raising prices. They have to deal with receiving it from all ends. But even so, most of the prices are comparable to other clinics, they just offer what is ideal for the animal's well-being. EVERYONE who works there is passionate about animals and only wants the best and wants to help where possible. They fight to do what's best for the animals while spending time to work with the clients to do WHAT THEY CAN because funding and resources are very limited in this field. Without being in the field to judge, i'm sure that's hard to understand. And that is another reason the prices aren't dirt cheap, because in order to provide QUALITY service for animals, it is best to be offered, and a lot of places won't bother to even offer what would be best for the pet, and people will walk away loving them. The doctors aren't there to just kiss up and actually look down on everyone. They are on everyone's level. They are compassionate and the most amazing I've ever worked with. I'm sure when people don't get what they want they are going to want to come on here and try give someone a bad name, but to see so many people so appreciative every day because they get personalized care, that's something worth noting as well.\r \r \r Pros: Doctors & Staff Cons: n/a more

too expensive, service just OK 9/7/2008

Our dog had a UTI and they did 800 worth of test, the unine culture alone was almost 200 dollars. When I have gone to others in the past, everything was half or less of what they charged here. The only reason we went there was becuase we recently move to area, but next time I need a vet I will go back to College Animal Hospital. Pros: convinient location for East Chula Vista Cons: Too expensive, customer service needs work more

My 2 Angels!!! 8/26/2008

Went in to take my Jack Russell to get her shots. They were very friendly to my loved one and myself. They took her in and did what they needed. She was done in a good amount of time. Everyone had smiles on there faces!!! :) \r \r Took my poodle as well, had her checked up and all her shots done. Once again smooth experience!!! THANKS! more

Good Experiences 5/8/2008

I have had good experiences with Bonita Pet Hospital. I have used Dr. Tomlin to crop both of my dogs ears. He is very friendly and spent a good amount of time talking with us regarding the process. It was like sitting down with an old friend having a conversation. The staff is always very friendly and kind. I was called both times as soon as the surgery was done to let me know everything was fine. I do believe the prices are somewhat higher, but when cropping a dogs ears the quality of the procedure is far more importent then the price. Pros: Best ears I have seen more

Dont go there 5/2/2008

Use to work there DONT WORK THERE, once they get the pets to the back they are NOT kind, if they go above ur treament plan they will use the ""its only a treament plan"", they dont care about you or your pets, I was told to act nice but once the client leaves it is a diff story, worked in the back and front trust me go elsewhere! Pros: some of the people are ok Cons: they dont care about you or your pet more

It's OK if you have lots of money 4/27/2008

Super expensive. You better take out a second mortgage if you want surgery or if complications arise. $800 for teeth cleaning, $15 for trimming nails?? I shoulda been a vet. Get your shots at the mobile vet, $5 or $10. Bonita charges at least double for meds and shots. They won't accept a check in payment unless it ""pre-clears."" And if the computer is down they won't let you out of the place unless you come up with a credit card. They never call you with a status report.\r Pros: 24-hr service Cons: big money more

Corperate Crooks 12/18/2007

This company is owned by a large corporation, the previous owners are still there but working as the orthopedic surgeons and getting profits from sales. $300 for meds that cost $45. $980 for your dogs first day of evaluation , this place will clean out almost anyone. PROFIT DRIVEN MAGGOTS !\r I payed another vet $220 to check their work (x-rays) i learned other vets wont dish up any negative truth for fear of being tied up in litigation. So your on your own out here...\r DO NOT GO TO BONITA PET HOSPITAL Pros: MY DOG IS ALIVE Cons: IM OUT FIVE GRAND more

Glad I avoided 11/26/2007

While I never actually ended up taking our dog to this facility... now running across the reviews... I'm very thankful. We've had her 2 years now, but when we first brought home our newest family member I began by asking other pet owners and calling the local Vet offices I was familiar with seeing in our neighborhood. The only experience I had with this facility was my initial calls. I found them not only expensive compared to the other quotes I was receiving, but I have to say the staff which handles the incoming calls.... was less than personable. The person who answers your calls, in any business, is the initial impression, and obviously can make or break your decision factor. I ended up taking her to Otay Vet on Otay Lakes Rd. in the Ralph's shopping center. Everyone there has been incredibly pleasant from day one... even on the phone. You can't get mad at mrbojangles for giving his opinion in an open forum. more
