Paradise Found :) 4/27/2012

After moving from ATL almost 2yrs ago I've been in search of a salon to call ""home"" in Birmingham, AL. After 4 unsuccessful attempts from several well known local spots, I found Urban Style in Homewood @ 6mos ago. Shawn was a referral from a close friend and given my history...I was more than somewhat hesitant to try yet another new stylist. After my first visit with Shawn, I knew Urban Style lived-up to it's hype. Shawn was the first stylist who didn't attempt a complete image make-over on the first appointment. He took his time and made sure I was comfortable before getting down to business. My first cut was AMAZING and this is the first time in over 6yrs that I've found someone who can cut/style AND....color! He's a one-stop shop and as a very busy business woman this is a ""God send"". I could ramble on but think anyone who might be in the same boat as I in their search for a great salon...should give Shawn a call. You won't be disappointed! more

Christopher Creates a 5 Star Experience! 1/10/2012

I once worked with a girl that always had fabulous hair styles and color and I constantly was raving about how awesome her hair looked. I asked her who did her hair and that is how I found Christopher. Six years later I have followed Christopher to several other salons and now to his final destination, Urban Style Salon. He is such a professional and does outsanding work. I don't ever have to tell him how to cut or color my hair, he just knows what to do and I trust him 110%. I get compliments on my color all the time as he gets as close as you possibly can to your scalp so the color looks so natural and lasts for a long time. In fact, I came in one day to get my color done and after he looked at my hair he told me that I did not need color yet because my roots still looked good. Wow! He actually saved me money! That is a true professional that looks out for his customers best interest and not his own. more

Best stylist and best salon!! 11/15/2011

Christopher has done a fabulous job with my hair color and cut. I have been going to him for a year and I am so happy to find him and his terrific salon. It is a relaxing and enjoyable experience to go to Urban Styles salon. I get so many compliments on my hair since I have being seeing Christopher. When you have an appointment, you have his undivided attention. I highly recommend Christopher to anyone who wants the latest hairstyle and color!!! more

Best Salon 11/5/2011

I have been with Shawn Gamel for four years. I have my hair colored once a month and I have not had a bad color. He knows his business. I have had lot of friends go to him and they had lot of friends go to him. Moving away and I know I will not find one this good. The salon makes you feel like home small and warm. :) more

This is absolutely the most exquisite salon with the two best hairstylists in all of Alabama. The owner, Christopher, has done a perfect job creating an upscale yet warm environment. I Live in Memphis, TN and drive almost four hours to see Shawn. He is the most talented colorist and stylist!!! more

At Urban Style Salon, Shawn Gamel has been styling me for the past three years, and I have never been more impressed with my hair. Shawn's process of highlighting and coloring my hair has given me exceptional results. My hair has never been so vibrant, my highlights contrast wonderfully, and my color is as beautiful when I come back to the salon as when I leave. I am always excited to come for my next appointment. Shawn is the best! 2/9/2011

Let me just say this, if I wish I had more time and space in which to write but let me just say that after just having moved to Bham and having a HORRIBLE experience at Fringe Salon I found Shawn. Not only was he able to work with my existing cut (which is not super complicated but is very detailed), he is funny and cool and obviously has the experience to deviate from the cookie-cutter dos they teach in cosmo school. I would not trust anyone else in this town. (except Chris, the owner ;) more

It's all true! 1/20/2011

I have been in the Birmingham area for a couple of years now and have migrated from one salon to the next looking for someone who could color and style my hair in a natural way that made me more confident. I have found him, Shawn Gamel is amazing. I read many reviews about Shawn from Blonde Salon and Spa and also from Urban Style Salon and decided I had nothing to lose. This was by far my best decision in a while. My color has never looked as vibrant and natural which I have always been told is ""difficult for a blonde"", he explained to me that this was not the case and he was right. I have been to Shawn twice now and I believe my hair actually looks better this time than the first which is amazing to me. The salon is beautiful, it feels more like you're visiting your friend at their home instead of a salon which I adore. Chris, the owner, was very warm and welcoming and I am very happy to have found my new salon. Thank you both!! and thank everyone who left the reviews which ultimately led me to my new stylist. I have never felt more beautiful! more

Wonderful hair place! 12/30/2010

Christopher Northington has cut my hair for over 6 years and I highly recommend him--and this great salon in Homewood! Christopher has wonderful instincts, not only with ways to style hair but how to approach people. He knows when I need to laugh, vent, or just be still in the chair and let him work his magic. Since going to Christopher, I receive many compliments on my hair. The compliments are not just the day of the cut or afterwards, but for weeks afterwards. Talk about the gift that keeps giving! Shawn Gamel is Priceless! 12/3/2010

Shawn has been my stylist for almost four years now, and I would NOT trade him for the world! I have had other stylists before, but I have never felt that any of them knew what was best for me. Shawn makes the best decisions for my style. I love knowing that I can just stop by, sit, relax, and be completely confident that he'll do the rest. My color is always perfect. I have never had to return for any adjustments. Sometimes I wonder if Shawn moonlights as a chemist because this man knows his color! He is very meticulous about what he chooses, and the Goldwell brand never disappoints. This is very important in my case because my skin is extremely sensitive. After being told by my doctor that I had to stop coloring my hair, Shawn told me not to worry. He worked his magic and found a solution. I've been safely coloring ever since! Pay Shawn a visit! You will love him, and the Urban Style Salon. more

Shawn Gamel the BEST colorist & stylist! 12/3/2010

I have been a client for 3 years and would tell you that no one has ever come close to making my hair look as great as Shawn does every time I see him. It is great going to someone who is always learning about new products and techniques. He cares about what will work best with your hair type when hearing about different products such as when he started using Paul Mitchell's Awapuwi Keritin Treatment six weeks ago on my hair. It has worked great with my Goldwell color he uses which is fantastic for any hair color. The Awapuwi treatment has cut my hair drying time by more than half and leaves it smooth and silky for days. more

Best Salon around! 11/23/2010

I went to Urban Style following my favorite stylist in the world, Greg Barry, and I am so glad that I did. I loved the style and atmosphere of the salon-- very much a place specializing in individualized attention. It was peaceful, beautiful, and full of laughter at times. I would trust Greg with anything he wanted to do with my hair-- I have never been disappointed, and he always makes me feel beautiful and special! This is my salon from now on! more

Urban Style Salon is an inviting, professional salon and provides the best service in town. The salon has great atmosphere and the stylists are friendly, which is unusual for upscale salons. Christopher has been styling my hair for a few years now and I have never been more pleased with my look. He learns his client's personality and expertly combines that with the right look for your face resulting in the perfect hair style and/or color. If I am not in a mood to make decisions, I know Christopher will make a decision I am more than pleased with. I have never been disappointed. The atmosphere in the salon is amazing!!! They stylist are super friendly. Shawn gamel is the best stylist I have ever used. His work is amazing! I have been with Shawn for 3 years, and would NEVER change stylists again. Shawn has my hair in the best condition of my life and always keeps me up to date, trendy yet sophisticated. For anyone who prefers an elegant, yet relaxed non-judgmental atmosphere, Urban Style Salon is the place for you! I love how the guys there make you feel like their number one client from the moment you walk in the salon. We've all had a negative experience at a salon before, but Urban Style is much different! Christopher Northington does a fantastic job of listening to what you would like done. His communicative approach is fabulous, and I always walk out of the salon with exactly the color and cut that I wanted. I have never been disappointed.
