Editorial review from Citysearch 4/22/2014

Bought a Groupon online hoping to save money on tree service. The guy who came out wasn't very friendly and didn't say much. He spent about 15 minutes with me. I told him what I wanted to have cut and then he left. About a few days later they called to make arrangements to come out to cut my trees. I was hoping for morning to have them cut the trees but said it would be noon. We set up a date and time. Noon came and nobody show up. Waited for over an hour and half. Decided to call them up to see what was the problem. The lady on the other line told me they were running a little late and said she would call the tree guys and have them call me up and tell me the time they would be at my place. Never did get a call from them. Waited till 4 o'clock to call them back up again and they said they were on route. Five thirty got a call from them and told me they had to cancel. \r Made another day and time for them to come out. They finally came out on that day and time. Did a great job and clean up after themselves. Got a surprise bill the next day for over 950.00 dollars. The Groupon special was 85.00. The guy who inspected my trees should have mention to me it would cost more to cut the trees. I did tell him I had a Groupon and the other lady on the other line. I called them up and mention about the bill and they said they would talk to the inspector. They gave me an extra 10% off the bill. more

I found Urban Forest Pro on City 3/5/2012

I found Urban Forest Pro on City Search. I got an estimate from them and 2 other companies. Off of the information on City Search Urban Forest Pro was my last choice. I only called them to make it 3 estimates, but what a surprise they were. The estimator was very educated and informed and did not misidentify my trees like 1 of estimators did. They are London Plane trees pretty common out here. You would think a tree guy worth his salt would know that. After some negotiations (I ended up getting some smaller items thrown in) I went with Urban Forest Pro and the job went great. The trees look better than ever. I would highly recommend this company. more

True Professionals 9/19/2011

I got a business card for this company off of a crew member when they were working on my street. I have a large Black Walnut tree in my backyard, which is also designated a heritage tree and thus there are lot of rules regarding its care and maintenance. Urban Forest Pro made all the arrangement for the permit and met with the city arborist prior to the start of work to get the go ahead to take off some larger diseased branches. The work went quickly and the tree looks great. The city arborist is happy with the finished product and agrees they did an excellent job. I could not ask for more. more

A Poor, Poor Choice 2/12/2011

We scheduled an appointment online with Urban Forest to come out and give us an estimate on trimming several trees on our property. The employee did not show up on time and phoned us to inform us that he would be an additional twenty-five minutes late. When he did arrive he made the off handed comment saying, "So, this is your little tree huh?" concerning our thirty-five foot silver maple with beautiful, elaborate, exposed root structure. After my husband explained how he wanted the tree trimmed, our main concerning being keeping the long, heavy branches from falling on our roof, the employee's response was, "We don't do that kind of work." My husband asked why not and the employee said, "That's butchery! That's not tree trimming!" My husband than asked what his solution would be, "To move the house?" The employee responded saying that they would cut a little here and a little there and that the other solution would be to, and I quote, "Cut the tree down and replant". This so called pr more

This so called professional's idea was to butcher this healthy, amazing tree that is the focal point of our front yard and an eye-appealing part of our neighborhood. We were not impressed and will hire an Arborist who considers the health of the tree as well as the wishes of the owner. After all four other companies gave us estimates and hearty approval of our plan to maintain the safety of our home and the health of our tree. more

Highly Skilled Arborists 11/17/2010

I had these guys out to prune some large Elm trees in front of my property. They were I little more expensive then some of the other bids, but I could tell just by talking to the sales guy that they knew a whole lot more about what my trees needed. The crew that showed by was equally knowledgeable & professional. They worked hard, cleaned up well, and the finished product was the best my trees have ever looked. I had Urban Forest Pro out about 4 years back to do a bid, but went with a cheaper company. I guess now that I see their work I realize what I poor service I had gotten before. If you are getting tree pruning done it is worth the little extra you have to pay to hire them, trust me. more

Customer Pros 2/19/2010

We were grateful for the good advice and support we got from Urban Forest Pro. We'd use them again knowing that they treat their customers right. more

Great service as promised 1/18/2010

I had Urban Forest Pro out to remove a large pine tree from my back yard. They were recommended to me by a friend, but I still got 2 other bids. I went with Urban Forest Pro because they seemed the most professional and their price, although not the cheapest, was in line with the other bidders. They did a great job removing the tree quickly as promised. They protected my lawn & flower beds, which were quite soggy at the time with plywood boards. When they were done you could hardly tell a huge tree had just been removed. Their office staff was easy to reach and very helpful. I also had them plant a dogwood tree to replace the pine tree. It was nice to get it all done at once. I am excited about hanging out in my yard this spring and actually getting some sun back there. Pros: Reasonable rates, fast, professional more

Urban Forest Pro, LLC is a pleasure to work with 1/4/2010

This fall Urban Forest Pro removed 2 large Trees of Heaven from my back yard and replanted 2 Magnolias. They also pruned and injected (for Dutch Elms disease) 3 Elms in our front yard. The Elms look great. Urban Forest offered a start to finish full service. Some of the other bidders did not offer injections or replanting services and did not use certified arborists. I liked knowing I was putting my trees in the hands of certified arborists. The Elms are over 100 years old and it is my job to care for them for the next generation. From being on time for the first estimate to following up to make sure the project was done right this company does not disappoint. more

Excellent Job, Knowledgeable Arborists 10/15/2009

I had Urban Forest out to my house this fall to prune multiple trees. I have a Japanese style yard with about 20 delicate finicky ornamental trees. My yard had been cared for for years by another arborist that moved to California. He recommended Urban Forest. I was a little nervous having some new out, but everything went well. The yard looks more fabulous then ever. Their delicate pruning made the beautiful fall colors really pop. The guys were all very skilled and you could tell everyone had a lot of experience. I will defiantly be having them back next year. Pros: Highly skilled arborists more

The Best of the best 6/16/2009

I had about 8 trees I needed pruned or removed in my park like back yard. I got 3 bids. The first came in at $2,500 and the second when I told him what the other had bid agreed to do it for the same $2,500. The last bid I got was from Urban Forest Pro they bid it at $4,000. I asked the owner to come down on his price considering the other bids I got. He came down to $3,800. He explained that they were the best and that all of their arborists are ISA certified and that he only hires the best people. He said that it was possible to do the job for $2,500 but not in a way that both of us could be proud of. He also said that when a customer cares about their yard like I do they do 1 of 2 things: 1: hire him and get a great product or 2: hire the other guys and then call him back when it does not work out. I went with the other guys and gave them half the money down. The day they got stated I looked out my window after about 3 hours only to find in horror that my trees were being butchered. Urban Forest Pro was right. I called him back and could not be happier with the result. Those trees are a crucial part of my landscape and practically irreplaceable I am so grateful that I came to my senses in time. I learned a hard and expensive lesson. Take my advice and save your self some money in the long run call Urban Forest Professionals. Pros: Skill, Performance, Top of the line service Cons: Expensive (but worth it) more

Stress relievers 1/6/2009

I have several large trees in my yard. During the recent snow storm I had a few large limbs come off of a Fir tree next to my house. Then a couple of days after the snow started to melt I realized that my tree was leaning. I called Urban Forest because hey had pruned the large Oak tree in my yard in the summer. They had told me then that the Fir needed to go, but I decided to hold off. I am so grateful they were able to remove the tree in time despite my procrastination. They even worked with my insurance company to have the removal partially covered. When I spoke to my insurance company they said I had no claim until the tree came down and damaged the house, but Urban Forest convinced them to pay half saving me over $1,000 dollars. They said that the insurance companies usually wont pay until the tree falls on the house and that I was very lucky, but still they pursued it for me anyway and what a remarkable outcome. I am on a fixed income and saving that money really meant a lot. Pros: go out of their way to help Cons: expensive more

deanneb 10/6/2008

We got several bids but Jeff went the extra mile to make it work for us and them and we also felt like he knew what he was doing. They moved our boat out of the way, moved our fence to get the chipper truck in. They took down a very large, large leaf maple, and large fir and smaller fir all in a small backyard. I wasn't sure how they were going to do it. They used the middle tree with a pully on top and tied the big branches from the other two trees to it. The weight of the limbs along with them pulling on the limb through the pully cinched the limbs so that they dropped vertically along side the tree. It was fun to watch even the neighbors enjoyed the show. No one stood around they all knew what they had to do and they were very safe. They chipped everything and cleaned up really well considering the mess these trees made. The chipper is pretty amazing. They have this long chain that they loop around the big branches in the yard and the chipper literally pulls this chain and these heavy branches right into the chipper. Pretty slick. They cleaned up continuously since there were so many branches from these trees there would be no place to move around. These guys worked hard. They seemed to have one guy in charge but he was working as hard as the rest of them and he made sure eveyone was on task and working safely. I used the chips around our plants as a mulch and it worked really well. I only just wish I could get more chips. I would highly recommend them they know what they are doing and worked safely and I was surprised that all my plantings near the trees survived! Realistically when you have such big trees and little room I really did expect all my plants to survive this. They were very careful not to drop the heavy trunk pieces on our septic tank area so they were pretty restricted to where things could drop and they were able to do it. These guys were amazing to watch. I have more trees that will need to come down and I plan on calling them in the future. Pros: Price, quality job, careful more

Experienced & Knowledgeable 10/3/2008

I never write reviews but when asked by the owner of this company I could not say no. I was doing a remodeling project to a house I bought in the west hills. We need to have some trees removed in order to accommodate an addition. I got 2 bids. The other tree service was enthusiastic to get started and offered me a great deal to get started right away, but then I talked to Jeff at Urban Forest Pro and he let me know that I needed a permit, that I could not take out as many tree as I had wanted without added costs (red tape and such). I paid extra for Jeff's expertise but boy was I glad I did when the city forester stopped by the job site to see what we were doing and all of our bases were covered. I could have gotten thousands of dollars in fines going with that other company. Jeff let me know that he received a letter from the city stating they are cracking down on these fly by night tree services and that home owners will be fined. My advice is cover your bases and hire a professional. more

Trees Never looked better 9/17/2008

I had Urban Forest Professionals out to look at a tree I was considering having removed because it would overhang an addition we were putting in with sky lights and I wanted to have maximum sunlight. Their arborist agreed that although the tree was lovely it had out grown it?s current location. They recommended a tree for replanting that would fit the space, purchased it, and planted it for a small fee. The experience was a no hassle one. They even took away yard debris my landscaper had missed. Now I have sky lights that let in the sun, but also shade in the back yard. My wife also liked it that a woman came out to give her the estimate. After working with many male construction workers on the addition it was a pleasant surprise she said. Pros: They do more Cons: But they charge more more

Tree Service 9/15/2008

I contacted this company to talk to an Arborist. Their website states: Call for a Free consultation with a Certified Arborist. When I made the call, the lady on the phone said they do not offer free consultations and that he doesn't take the time to do that. I told her that was quite interesting since their website stated differently. more

You won?t regret using Urban Forest 7/16/2008

I had a very messy, very ugly, and failing Burch tree in my back yard. I got bids from a few tree services and chose Urban Forest. Their price was mid range but they seemed very informed and professional. I was a little overwhelmed by the cost of the project and was a bit on the fence about going ahead with it. The salesperson I worked with suggested that I might ask the neighbors if they would consider pitching in since the tree made a considerable mess in their yard also. He said it didn?t hurt to ask and so I did and they agreed to pay for half. What a great suggestion. Now I have a nice clean yard, a healthily pocketbook, and happy neighbors. I have even gotten to know my neighbors a little bit better as we both have been motivated to fix up and enjoy our yards now that they are free of the ugly falling down Burch tree. Thank you Urban Forest! Pros: Great Advisors on all things trees Cons: Expensive more

Very professional. Great work. 5/20/2008

I want to echo what others have said about Urban Forest Professionals. We recently had them remove and replace 8 trees and couldn't be happier with the result. While several other tree service providers gave me the runaround in trying to get bids, UFP had the bid to me the same day that I called. The price was very reasonable and they completed the work amazingly quick. They even took the time to come back out to relocate one of the new trees more to our liking. They will be the only company I call for any future tree work we need done. Pros: Right equipment for the job, knowledgable, experienced more
