I Want MORE!!! 2/18/2009

Two of us went to eat at the Uptown in noblesville. I'm a fan of the diner atmosphere and think it is charming and downhomey. I had never been to the Uptown before, so I was excited to mark it off my list of diners to see in my immediate area. I ordered the rueben. Now lemme tell ya I never order ruebens, just not a big fan of all that bold flavor. I decided to try it anyway. I'm hooked on THIS rueben. the difference is that the chef instead of doing craute she used slaw...she wins! I was impressed with the service, I mean it wasn't slammed or anything but she was very Alice's Diner like. You remember the show right? That was the feeling I got and I loved it. She wasn't trying to kiss butt or schmooze her way into my wallet. She was talking to me and my friend like we were friends of hers. The chef was very accessable as well. She answered all my annoying food questions while she was cooking the guests food. Middle of sentence she stopped talking set up the mans plate and ignored me...PERFECT!!! She tuned me out and payed attention to the needs of the other guest. Which is exactly what I would think one should do in that instant. I'll go back, you betcha! I like the fact that there is a diner that is trying to up the anty a little, and not just spoon you the oil outta the fryer. I like the fact that she's trying to give us something a little healthier. All while still keeping the diner classics available for die hards like me. Thanks again for a good experience Pros: the atmosphere and the fair. PLUS you can get Earl Gray more

Best breakfast in Noblesville! 10/27/2008

I went to this place for the first time last Saturday. I had noticed that it was always packed on weekends and figured it was worth a try. I was right, the food was great! I had the chocolate chip pancakes w/ walnuts which were amazing. The coffee was great as well. Very rich and full bodied. It made me want to try their espresso drinks next time.\r The restaurant is very bright and clean. It is great improvement from how the cafe used to be. It still has that small town cafe feel. The tables are rather tight, but that is the way it has always been so I can't complain that much. The service was decent. They kept my coffee full and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time.\r I will definitely be making a return trip to the Uptown Cafe to sample more of the food, or maybe I'll just get the chocolate chip pancakes again :). Either way I am glad to see this great cafe added to Downtown Noblesville! Pros: Great Food, Great Coffee! Cons: None. more

Great breakfast 10/16/2008

When I first went, I expected greasy diner food, but I was surprised to find a real chef with quality ingredients. I find myself going back again and again. Their breakfast is just the right thing to start out a weekend. My favorite is their scratch made biscuits and own coffee blend. I normally order the mega-miller, which is eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, and hashbrowns stuffed in one of the scratch made biscuits. Friends I have gone with seem to order the uptown scramble a lot, basically an omelette with a bunch of different meats + vegetables in it. I have seen the french toast made from larger than normal bread, and chocolate chip pancakes being made, but havent gotten around to ordering them. I also like that when you order orange juice, you get a real glass of orange juice, not some tiny dixie cup like many places. The first time I went, the service was a bit slow, but it has gotten dramatically better. I wish Indianapolis had more small cafes like this one. Pros: Good food, good atmosphere more

Sub Par at Best 8/30/2008

As far as diners go I don't usually have very high expectations , but this restaurant failed to impress me in any way shape or form. I was happy to hear that a new place was opening, or I suppose reopening, in Noblesville as I'm sure many other locals were. That being said, before I decided to try it out for myself all I had heard were mostly negative things about it, primarily about the staff and service. It is small and quite cramped which is not in and of itself a really bad thing , but it didn't seem to work here. Though they had plenty of staff on (more than such a small place would ever seem to need) service was still only fair though the waitresses were nice enough. My real complaint was with the food. After reading about the place being opened by a young chef with some good ideas about fusing traditional diner food and more modern cuisine I was excited. Unfortunately the menu failed to reflect much of the latter. I decided to go for one of my favorite guilty pleasures, biscuits and gravy and added on the hash browns and over easy egg. It was described as a giant biscuit with plenty of house made gravy. What I got was a normal sized biscuit that was really more like a roll since it was not at all crispy on the outside or flaky on the inside but rather kind of soft and chewy. It did come with plenty of gravy but unfortunately this was probably the worst sausage gravy I have ever had. It was not savory at all but more like a sweet paste in which I could barely detect the flavor of the sausage. I would rather just have biscuits and gravy from a fast food place than these. The hash browns were pretty standard and the egg was ok even though it came scrambled instead of over easy as written on the menu. Even though it is not expensive i felt like I got ripped off. Maybe this place is just trying to find its identity since it just opened, but I'm guessing that it won't stay open for long if they're unable to improve service or the quality of food. Pros: Serves breakfast in Noblesville Cons: The food! more

The Uptown 5/10/2006

The Uptown has been a Noblesville destination for decades. They have fantastic food, and the entire experience is so much fun! With jukeboxes at every table, free candy, and even customizable pancakes (customers have been known to order Mickey Mouse, Batman, a sea turtle, and even the Olympic's logo), this place is perfect for families and anyone looking for a little fun in addition to a great meal. Be aware of the fact that the entire restaurant only seats about 45 people at the absolute most...it's packed on Saturday mornings. Be prepared to have a plan B in mind...waiting space is virtually nonexistant. Pros: fun, clean, very unique Cons: crowded, noisy more
