Like most teaching hospitals, it's fast paced, unfriendly and the waiting time is enough to make you feel old. This is simply dealing with the ER, and it's understandable. \r \r What's not acceptable is University Psychiatric of Louisville. I have had one horrible experience after another with these folks. If your short on cash and don't have good insurance, you may find yourself looking in their direction. Concerned about getting your medication? Than this is not the place to go. It takes them 3-6 days to refill prescriptions, if you're fortunate, if not, they will wait for you to call and complain and then, tell you that you need to be seen; another 7-14 days. The office manager is just a train wreck. She's rude, obnoxious and just a disaster, she pretty much runs the entire clinic. She is also a verbally abusive individual who literally enjoys being mean, I have never met anyone like this in my entire life. In all honesty, if you are able to juggle cutting back on your meds before the end of the month, pay all your bills before the due date, and willing to be treated like a wild animal, than this is your place. Pros: Less Expensive...... Cons: Many more

They provide me with excellent care 5/21/2008

I was taken to University of Louisville Hospital following an injury. It would have not been my choice, but since I was unable to decide the ambulance took me there. That was in January. I have since had 2 operations on a fractured ankle and broken leg. The care I have recieved has been excellent. Granted once I began going to the orthopedic clinic I had to sit through 3 -4 hours in the waiting area while being treated. That included registering , getting updated x-rays and being seen by the doctors and support staff. I knew it would take a while. So rather than it being a miserable experience. I used it as a time to meet my fellow patients and learn what brought them there. The staff who provided care were very caring. I watched them being treated rudely by many patients for not getting them in and out and they maintined their composure while trying to explain why so much time was needed. The waiting room was full each time I had an appointment. That's 25-30 people to be registered, x-rayed and treated in a 4 hour period. They always managed to get us all seen even though at times the Dr.s had to leave for emergency surgery. They did an great job over all. Now as far as the staff who prepared me for , performed and took care of me after my surgeries. They all get 5 stars. Everyone of them had more compassion than I expected. They went above and beyond duty in explaining, reassuring and providing the best care I have recieved. I only wish I remembered their names. Both experiences with my surgeries were positive. Just keep in mind that no matter how bad off you are when you're there, more than likely some one else is in a worst condition. Learn to be patient. Be appreciative and remember to thank those providing you with care. Use your time waiting to reflect on life and how you can improve it. Make an effort to meet your fellow patients. Keep in mind, that University of Louisville provides the same care for people whether you can pay, have insurance or are broke. Pros: 95% of the staff went above what I had expected in care. Cons: First time patients need to be informed of the wait time in the clinics so they can prepare for the wait. more

Do Not Subject Yourself To This! 5/1/2008

An appointment will take you all day, you will be bombarded with rude and incompetent people, and you will leave with more questions and 0 answers. I felt humiliated and the people were condescending and outright hateful. I have left every time so angry that I was crying and having panic attacks with no more information about my unborn child than when I went in. Cons: Awful waiting time, substandard care, horrible bedside manner, and zero compassion more
