Exceptional Service 8/5/2014

We came in to Ruckersville University Tire & Auto Center with several difficult car problems. Despite the shop being busy the entire day, the manager, Onnie Roach, and mechanics were nothing but helpful, honest, and fair with us throughout the process. When repairs were not finished by closing time, the manager and mechanic offered to stay an additional 3 hours in hopes of finishing the work that night. When they finally had to call it quits at 10pm, the manager personally offered us a ride to a nearby hotel and paid for most of the expenses through discounted repairs. The next morning, we were again picked up from the hotel when our car was finally ready. This could have been a very frustrating experience, but I felt very satisfied with the service and the car is running great! more

Horrible Customer Service 7/19/2014

Under no circumstances will I or my family take our cars here EVER AGAIN! I made an appointment early in the week online and was given a response to my questions regarding the state inspection. I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled time, was checked in and went to wait. An hour later my car still hadn't moved, I asked how much longer before they inspected my car and he told me at least an hour to an hour and a half. I immediately got up took my keys back and left. Far and away the most unprofessional behavior regarding an appointment system. The front desk man told me you are unable to make appointments for state inspection, yet I did online and in their comments they didn't tell me that was a problem, nor did he inform me of the wait time when I walked in. I am beyond livid with the treatment and carelessness of their customers. I made an appointment for a reason and went to great lengths to be there on time and planned my day around this. I would strongly encourage you to take your business anywhere else in Charlottesville than here. No one likes to hear that you failed the most important part of our business, you our customer. While we never like to find we failed you, with out your help we can not fix it. It seems we had a break down in communication between our store and the electronic appointment setting system. I do apologize that it happened to you and thank you for bringing it to our attention. I do hope that you will allow us the opportunity to fix our failure and regain your trust and earn your business again. Tire damage cost me a lot of money 7/9/2014

I took my car for annual inspection and tire balance/rotation. I had carefully inspected my car and tires in their parking lot before I gave it to them. One hour later they called me and showed me a shiny screw stuck in the side wall of one tire. This was definitely not caused by me. At the end I had to pay for one pair of new tires. charge much more than others 5/20/2014

I went to take an inspection of my car( BMW 325i), they found five parts needed to be changed, then they changed them for me and charged me about $130. After I arrived home, I checked the prices of all of those parts changed by them, the result surprised me. for example, fog lamp bulb, the average price I find is $13 more or less, but they charged me $28; wiper blade, the average price I find is about $11, they charged me $23.88; brake clip, $7 almost, but they charged me $21.90! They are just like Mafia, taking my money away without any explanation! RESPONSE FROM University Tire and Auto: Mr. Ahmadzai Thank you for contacting University Tire and Auto. The price for the items that you have stated are not only for the part but also the labor to install the parts. We group some parts and labor together because it is actually beneficial to the customer to do so. I will use the prices that you found online for the parts and the labor charge per item to install the parts on your car if you supplied the parts to us. Fog light bulb $13.00 labor $17.91 Total $30.91 Wiper Blade $11.00 Labor $13.43 Total $24.43 Brake clip $ 7.00 Labor $26.86 Total $33.86 By grouping the labor and part as a package we were actually able to save you $15.42 on the three items listed above. Poor 4/30/2014

Do not use these guys. They overcharge. Went in for a simple inspection and left with by belts squeaking. Then overcharged me again to fix the problem saying it was nothing that they did. In my opinion not a honest organization. more

Watch out for add on charges 2/21/2014

However, were I a resident of Charlottesville I would seek out a more reasonable place to have my car repaired. more

Mr. Baugher - Folks that know me will be quick to verify to you that when it comes to taking the time to write about excellent customer service and a very high quality experience level, I just don't do it; I actually sort of expect it - thinking that is the way to do business. In my line of work, excellence quite often can be the difference between literally, life and death for our Army, Marine, and Special Ops Forces on the ground; there is no room for sub-par performance. Let me first apologize to you for taking so long to write to you with respect to the repairs performed on my Son's car back in January. Operations got a little busy here at the Center and quite literally, I had put my draft email in my draft folder - and then forgot about it! No excuse for me; just forgetfulness. Anyway, the "short" of it, is that my son drove his car down to UVA on Sun, 12 Jan for the beginning of the Spring Semester. He noticed his tire was flat and he called me. Having recently had surgery on his shoulder he couldn't change the flat himself so AAA took care of that. The next morning, Monday, I surfed the internet for tire shops in Charlottesville and found University Tire and Auto. I called the Seminole Court shop and Johnny Tyler took my call. He was polite, professional, sympathetic, and helpful. He arranged with me to have my son bring over the car after classes on Monday evening. My son, Michael, went to the shop late in the afternoon, and Johnny was waiting for him and took the car right in (I had arranged for tires with Johnny already during my phone call with him earlier that day). Unfortunately, some additional work was identified as being needed to be done, and Johnny called me and talked me through the repairs over the phone (I work in Northern VA). Since the work was going to take some time and the shop was closing for the night, Johnny arranged to have my son driven back to his apartment for the night. The next day, once the work was completed, Johnny let me pay for the repairs over the phone and offered to have someone go over and pick up my son and bring him back to the shop to pick up the car. Though my son was able to obtain a ride to the shop, when he got there to pick up the car, Johnny made sure everything was taken care of with no unexpected problems or issues. He even made sure a "UVA Student discount" was applied! My son says now, the car is riding great and better than it has for a long time. Kudos to Johnny and his team! So I want to thank you and of course, Johnny Tyler, for helping me, and taking care of my son when his car needed repair. You can probably understand the anxiety one can feel when having to do discuss car repairs over the phone and in particular, when far away from your "home base", and having to deal with someone you don't know. While I thought my experience may be painful, it was tremendously easy and satisfying. You, Johnny, and your staff should be commended for your efforts. If this is the indication of how you run your business, I can assure you that I will not only have my son bring his car to University Tire and Auto whenever he needs service/repairs, but also will recommend your shop to anyone and everyone. The only place we go! 2/1/2014

We have been taking our vehicles to University Tire for years for every kind of service. Oil changes, tires, brakes, inspections, repairs, you name it they have done it for us! We have been to all of the locations because we have always had a great relationship with the manager Brian McDonald. We always call to see what location he is working at and go there. He explains things thoroughly and the entire staff is always so friendly. We now live in Harrisonburg and choose to commute to take care of our vehicles. Thanks for awesome service!! Today we were served by Brian, and the mechanic doing our work was Bo. Thanks guys!! more

uneducated or scare tactic trained?? 3/1/2013

I took my vehicle to the pantops location just for an inspection when i called to get info on pick up i was pleasantly attended by kevin who informed i need tires however they would pass inspeccin. Upon arriving to the location i was then told i needed a serpentine belt cheapest would be 53 as well as a wheel bearing for rear passenger side about 500.. And labor 128.00 hourly..but they could get it done tonite.. Well i obviously didnt have the money for that so i paid my 16 got told to wait 15 mins while they put my vehicle back together!!! Then i got the paper which explained what i needed all the while freaking out inu Head worried the stress would cause yet again another miscarriage and what about the saftey of me and my three children i have now..holy crackers..so the paper they gave me said i needed a fan belt n rear wheelbearing for which i found both new parts for under 250..so why did they do this..i went to the near by convience store where i told my story and to no surprise was told how common that was with pantops university tire that being treated unfairly scared by sales person and charged outrageously driving people to other places where they learn a bout the lies university auto on pantops told them...shame on you guys!!!!! more
