There are several branches of UMCU in Ann Arbor, especially the one in Pierpont commons. Many ATM machines, too. Members can easily check the account online and it's totally free. They provide some term saving account with good interest. Members can also buy discount tickets of cedar point, sixflag, too. Good for University students! more

University of Michigan Credit Union is a must for people living in Ann Arbor, especially for those who go to school there. It is totally free to open and have a checking or saving account there. Their saving accounts often offer much higher interest rates compared to other banks. During the summer, you can buy tickets to Cedar Points through them. Also, they have a message board that you can post ads ( we sold our TV through that system). more

Every September local banks purchase mountains of tshirts, frying pans, or even toaster ovens to hand out to entice students to sign up for accounts. Once an account is established, the banks know that the hassle of creating a new account and closing an old one all but assures that they will keep their new customers for at least a year. Aside from Bank of Ann Arbor, which does not offer the no fee checking accounts (for low balances) that most students need, the University of Michigan Credit Union offers the best service in Ann Arbor. Their branches do not have long lines and their rates on savings accounts are higher than the local average (although not as high as some of the online banks). If the Credit Union installed a few more ATMs around campus, it would be the perfect choice for all students. In it's current form, if you don't mind walking a ways to get cash, it's a great place to keep your money. more

This is by far the BEST local bank around, Ann Arbor or otherwise. I graduated from Uu of M and moved out to Los Angeles with a friend who also went to school there. Both of us had accounts at the Credit Union and we were both always impressed by the fantastic customer service (REALLY nice tellers and helpful staff) as well as banking accounts options. more

The University of Michigan Credit Union is a staple for many students, staff and faculty at the University of Michigan. With it's numerous locations in Ann Arbor, and great account services, many flock to the credit union for their banking. What is nice is that recently a new branch has opened in the Michigan Union so this adds greater convenience to those studying, grabbing dinner or just passing through. What's also nice about this new branch is that much like a drive through there is a walk up service where you have a television screen of sorts where you can see a customer service person in the back and send your slips back to them. It looks cool and adds greater speed and convenience to the banking sine one person can help multiple people at the same time. I've actually never seen this at any other bank and was quite impressed by the technology that was brought indoors. more
