Universal Gemological Laboratory

I saw the previous reviews for this place and decided to have my setting appraised there since they did not sell jewelry nor diamonds. There was a choice of a verbal appraisal or a written appraisal. The gemologist explained things in detail and answered all my questions and was able to give me wholesale and retail values for my items. The building has security and the place has cameras so it felt safe. Absolutely no sales pressure and they deal with people without any previous knowledge and they also appraise for jewelers. I had my fiance's engagement ring appraised by Lana at Universal Gem for insurance. They were extremely professional and reasonable priced. Importantly, they are independent and, therefore, are not connected to any seller. At each step I was told the reason for the grading and was let in on the process behind her decision. All of the grading was done before looking at my GIA report, to insure that the diamond in the ring was the one I gave the jewler. I visited UGL after finding them on Citysearch. Initially, I had called on the phone and was happy to speak to a REAL person, who went over with me what to expect from the appraisal process and what the cost would be. While visiting their office, which was very professional and NOT a jewelry store, I was treated politely and with professionalism. Each step of my diamond appraisal was explained and they answered all my questions. What I loved most about this whole experience, was the I didnt have to leave my diamond with them and come back at a later date. The whole appraisal report was done right infront of me, and they were more then happy to discuss and answer any question and concerns I had. I would definitely recommend them!!!
