Guys who care about cycling! 11/27/2009

I bought my first bike in LA off Carlos and he gave me a great deal. His store is well stocked with bikes ranging from expert to starter models - perfect for trying out and feeling the difference between makes. He and his guys are friendly and make time to serve you properly giving sound advice and taking the trouble to find out what is best for you. The proof is I recently went back and bought another bike (Trek Fuel EX8) from Carlos and again it was a good deal, a great experience + I am loving riding the bike he recommended. Pros: Knowledgeable & friendly Cons: no coffee machine ;) more

Always the best experience and pleasant service. 10/24/2008

I have been going in there for the last 3 years. My first time there the owner assisted me with the bike that I had. It was not the best bike but he worked with me. The following year he helped pick out a bike. It was obvious that he was not interested in only making the sale but was more interested in being personal, considerate of my finances, and always helpful. I still have that bike and I take it to him. The bike is like new. Thanks guys you're great! Pros: Good amount of choices and very attentive to the customers. Bike is always ready on time. Cons: parking is limited. more

Best LBS! 5/27/2008

Wonderful experience 5/1/2008

What a terrific experience!! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. It was a very relaxed and low key environment with a good selection of bikes. I got a great bike for a really good price. When I first came in, I was prepared to get one particular bike I had been shown but there was a slight concern that it may not be the right size so instead of pushing me to buy this bike right there and then along with pedals, shoes, helmet etc..., he said he wanted to order the other size just to make sure it was a perfect fit to my build. When I did come back, I was of course properly fit to the bike and got a great deal on the extras. Highly recommended. We will be using them as our primary source for all things bike related from now on. more

Best Bike Shop Ever !!! 4/21/2008

I went to Universal Cycles to buy a bike. My experience was very good. I got a good bike at a good price. The sales person was very nice. I had a great experience and will send all my freinds to this store. All the staff helped me, when the first sales guy was getting my bike ready one of the other sales guys helped me with picking out some shoes. And when the second sales guy was fixing my cleats onto my new shoes. What a great experience!!!! Pros: Best Service You Can Find !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Good experience 8/13/2007

Had a agreat experience buying a new bike. I had some idea of what type of bike I wanted and the owner suggested a few differnet makes and price ranges. He was patient, let me ride as many bikes as I wanted as many times as I wanted. They spent lots of time fitting the bike for me and promised to fix any problems that may come up. Well, a couple did. Nothing major but all problems were fixed or adjusted including upgrading a part. I will do all my service work here; they stand by it . I feel quite comfortable with the store, would recommend it to any one and feel they care about me as a biker and a customer. Pros: patient and works with customers. Well stocked Cons: store is a little small more

HIgh Pressure, BAD experience, Owner has attitude, nice shop but wouldn't recommend to my friends given my experience 7/14/2007

We went into Universal Bikes today with great excitment. Today we called at 6 pm on Saturday when we got off work to see if they were open, the owner said they had just closed but that if we could make it in 5 minutes they would be there. On the phone we said that we were intrested in buying a bike that was 500 dollars. We rushed down to find a bike the owner picked. After riding the bike, I wasn't sold on the bike, it was the only option given to me and it was not great. The gears didn't shift smoothly and it just wasnt worth the 750 he wanted for it. Telling the owner that I wasn't sure, and I would let him know on Monday, came the huge bad attitude, used car salesman and high pressure game. He states ""I thought you were going to buy a bike?"" I expressed my concerns, his eyes roll with discust and he looks at the clock with drama as if it is so very late, it is now 6:35. His employee is still in the shop working on a bike and his 2 bike friends are hanging out, clearly as if the shop isn't shutting down anytime soon. My boyfriend then finds a 5,000 bike he is intrested in( and can afford) and has questions. The owner plays dumb and can't answer any of his questions about the bike because he is too involved in starring at me to manipulate me into buying this bike. I tell my boyfriend please put back the bike he is now intrested is, obviosly the owner needs to leave and say thank you, he says ""ya, whatever"" and rolls his eyes! Clearly not anyone that I would ever recommened or do business with. We talked in the car on the way home about what a bad experience we just had and how great we were treated from another bike shop down the street, We decided to see if they were open, they weren't but the owner was in the back and opened the doors, was SO helpful, not high pressure and we ended up spending 3,000 and were so happy! Be careful, Universal Bike is HIGH PRESSURE! Shop is organized, but owner has bad attitude! Pros: Organized Big Shop Cons: High Pressure, Bad attitude, feel like your being sold a used car by owner more
