Editorial review from Citysearch 2/25/2013

The WORST, saddest thrift store in SB. \r \r They routinely call your home, even after you ask them to stop - which is ILLEGAL - and tell you ""a truck will be in your neighborhood today"". We both know this isn't even true, so right there they are starting with an un-truth. \r This morning at 8:20AM I receive a call from a representative of the store who started the same old spiel. I quietly said, ""It's 8:20 in the morning...."" to which she screamed, ""no it's not!! it's almost 9!"" (duh!) and SLAMMED the phone down in my ear. What a great way to promote your business, United Family, hiring hot-headed psychos to promote it. With social media being what it is, you will not be in business long with this kind of treatment of your SB neighbors. I placed a call to the mgr today and left a message asking for a call back, so I can tell her/him about this extremely negative experience. \r \r This store already stinks - in both meanings of the word - odor and quality of the 'merchandise' and this kind of behavior from staff (or volunteers) is not helping you any. \r \r P.S. I donate exclusively to the wonderful Assistance League on Veronica Springs Rd. You and your employees could learn a lot about class and good taste from those people, and their lovely, clean organized store. more

United Family Assn have committed theft 10/29/2009

United Family Assoc. of Orange committed theft on Oct 22nd by walking on my property and stealing $3500 worth of merchandise from my house. They even had the odassity to leave a receipt after taking my golf clubs and several other valuable items that were sitting in my garage. This crime was witnessed by two neighbors and police are investigating Tim Lichman , manager of the store for felony theft. They admit taking the items erroneously but wont compensate me for the items he claims he already sold. He told me to sue them and that is what I will do . See ya in court, Tim. Cons: they have committed criminal behavior and being sued more

The last reasonably-priced thrift store left!! 9/11/2009

I think that the 2 previous reviews for this shop were for somewhere else!! This thrift shop is in the rear of the Magnolia Shopping Center in Goleta, CA. Not Orange! Also, I have taken ALL of my donations to this shop for as many years as they have been open and they have NEVER ONCE denied my donation no matter what it was! Nor have they inspected my bags before accepting them as many of the thrift shops have started doing. They always seem happy to receive whatever I have to give. \r \r Also, I have not only clothed myself through a career, pregnancy, etc. but I have been able to find excellent brand name clothing for my son at WONDERFUL prices...most kid's shirts are $1.91 and one color tag is 40% off each week with a buy 1, get 2 free on that color on Wednesdays!\r \r Their children's books are a little high (at $1.91 each) but considering that is still more than 1/2 of the regular price of a book it's still a bargain for the wonderful selection!\r \r Keep up the good work, United Family! Pros: Lots of movement of merchandise. Cons: Crowded aisles. more

Very picky 7/15/2008

I always prefer taking my used items to a thrift store instead of hauling them to the dump or going through the hassle of trying to sell them myself. It is a good feeling to know that your used items will still be useful to someone else and the profit from selling them will go to charity. That being said, if you are getting rid of anything other than clothes and exercise equipment, you had better be sure it is in perfect condition. Particularly furniture. This store is very picky about what furniture and electronic items it will accept. Also, if you were hoping to drop off your items and go, think again. Be prepared to wait around while the receiving person inspects your donation items. After a couple of experiences like this, I found that I am much better off taking my items to Alpha Thrift Store which is just a couple of miles further down Hollister. They accept your items right away, and if you don't need a receipt you can leave them and go. Pros: Money goes to charity Cons: Picky receiving more
