That's it, no more chance for this Umezono!!!! 10/22/2011

We have been here many times for a year. And 80% of the times we had really bad service. We told ourselves that it might not be their good day and gave them another chance and another chance and another chance. The worst of the worst server was the youngest one there. The others are ok, but none of them are great. Let me tell you some of what went wrong - We went there half an hour before they closed and I asked the server what the table next to us was having in the pot. She told us more

AWFUL service 7/10/2011

There are a lot of great Japanese restaurant in Atlanta. This place doesn't worth even for a quarter. Alway take loooooooon time to come get order. But last time we visit this restaurant, they act like we are not exist. ( don't say ""hello"" nor ask how many party) The lady was at cashier seems like manager or something because she was the only one who didn't wear uniform. We have been waiting for a while, then first thing she said to us was "" Don't make a mess!!!!!!"". (Our toddler dropped piece of chips on the floor.) We just stood up then left. I WILL NEVER GO THIS PLACE. more

I lived in Kyoto for four years, and I have eaten lunch at Umezono more than 200 times over the past 20 years! 1/3/2009

I eat lunch at Umezono every chance I can. Dollar-for-dollar, it is very good Japanese family-style-restaurant food at a reasonable price. Since the late 1980's I estimate that I have eaten here somewhere between 200-300 times; why would I keep going back? KyotoDave Pros: Very good budget-priced Japanese food... Cons: Crowds on Friday and Saturday lunches... more

Bad take-out experience... they hung up on me! 1/12/2008

I have been getting take-out and eating at this restaurant for years. There were the occasional long wait and questionnable service, but I lived close by and I like the food. Today I decided I'd order take-out for lunch and the person who answered said it'd take an hour. I can understand a busy Saturday lunch crowd and I can wait so I said yes. She put the phone down and I could clearly hear that she told someone else: I said one hour! The phone was left off the hook for about a minute then she hung up the phone. I loved the food but the attitude and poor service is unreasonable. I will NEVER go back again. more

There is no star for this place 11/10/2007

Last time we went there, we were waiting for the food for a very long time, here comes the waitress with the check!!! Pros: Food is okay Cons: service is worse restaurant I've experienced more

Simply the Best Sushi and service ANYWHERE in the world! 10/22/2007

I have had the pleasure of dining at Umezono with a dear Japanese lady friend on many, many occasions. We both have been extremely impressed with the service, quality of food, and easy atmosphere. The servers, all of them, remember our names, our orders, and even our table preference. I find it hard to believe that this restaurant could be scored anything but a five star by even the most particular customer. My Japanese friend and I have had the pleasure of dining here not less than 20 times over the last few years and always look forward to returning again! Pros: Sushi, Food, Service, Parking, Ambience, Spirits more

The worst service ever 9/25/2007

The worst restaurant experience ever in my life. I will not recommend to anyone to go there. Just because we don't have much choice, they can't behave like this. I ordered Chinese noodle soup, ""Ramen"", when I tasted its soup, I couldn't tell if that was Udon soup or Ramen soup, the soup was cloudy and thick ( my guess was they boil noodle in the soup), there were two thin slices of an egg with no yolk !! two slices of a fish cake ends (you know the end portion, not center part) and I payed $7.50 for this weird stuff. I know UMEZONO can cook good food because I have been there many times before..so this time they made the Ramen in this way intentionally to upset us. In fact, we even didn't get a complementary dessert. So we were not welcomed by them...but why? only thing we did was that I asked them not to put seaweed to Ramen. Tha't's all. Their answers were ""No. We can't do that. If you don't like seaweed, then don't order."" or the other said ""Well, if we change this time for you, next time our cook will do the same thing for others also. so we don't want to confuse them."" Wow, how smart the cook is....You know how simple not to put seaweed to Ramen??? After everything is done, just do not put a slice of seaweed on the top of dish..that's all. three years old can do this...but still this will confuse cook...amazing.....and apparently this upset them..I even didn't raise my voice or didn't do anything..but still they were upset and gave us the worst Ramen ever with the worst service...their tolerance is 0..So please be careful if you will go there..if you upset them a bit, you will end up having the worst food.... Pros: they can make good food. Cons: they can also make bad food. more

Raised Prices, Indifferent Service, Non-Japanese Patrons Beware!! 9/16/2007

They've raised prices on most items since the last time we visited 2 mos ago. Sushi/Tempura/Beef combos are now at $19.50, about a 15% raise. The joint was only 1/3 full that night & there was no service whatsoever. This place has a unspoken policy of discriminating non-Japanese customers. Although they put out a sign saying no cell-phone use, they never enforced the rule on their own kind. Being a non-Japanese Asian, I, among other friends were confronted in previous visits. Service is indifferent in every occasion. That night the teriyaki beef we got was 3/4 fat. When I asked for a replacement, I was told that it's supposed to be like this. The waitress finally relented when I started raising my voice. The rolls we ordered were sloppily prepared. Waitresses are old and ugly, mostly of non-Japanese. There was this waitress who kept taking away our dishes even though we hadn't finished w/them. What's the damn rush? The business that night was brisk and I hope it stays that way! This place, along with Sushi Yoko on Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Norcross, is owned by the same ppl. We had been to both places many times and that one is not much better. If you are looking for a hassle-free Japanese dinner, served by AUTHENTIC Japanese waitresses, avoid these two places. Two recommendations: Circle Sushi on Roswell Rd in Sandy Springs or Zutto Sushi 's $16.95 buffet on North Point Pkwy in Alpharetta-both have way better environment and restrooms! Cons: Raised prices while still giving bad service & discriminate toward non-Japanese patrons more

The many offerings on the menu do not compensate for the shameful service 9/4/2007

I have been a customer at Umezono for a little over 3 years, but this weekend's visit will be my last visit to Umezono. This weekend, my mother (who is Japanese) visited me. So, I suggested that we go to Umezono for lunch. Umezono is open for lunch until 2pm. We arrived at 1:20pm and waited about 5 min to be seated (which was ok). When the hostess approached us, she told us that ""We close at 2, and the kitchen is closing. So, we'll seat you, but if you aren't finished eating by 2:15pm, we will give you a to go box, and you'll have to leave."" I knew this was not going to sit right with my mother, and we should have left. But, we didn't and that was our error. My mother asked (rather coldly), ""Well, then how long will it take you to get our food to us?"" The hostess said they would have it out very quickly. They didn't. 20 minutes later, we still did not have our food. It did not arrive until I inquired about it. Once we received our food, they kept coming back, trying to take our plates from us, asking if we were finished (clearly, we were not finished and it was not 2:15pm). I kept checking my watch which made for an unpleasant experience. My mother asked for a refill on her drink, and they told her they would have to charge her for it. She said nevermind, and they brought it anyways, and charged her for it. Pros: authentic Japanese food, many offerings on the menu, next store to Japanese grocery store Cons: horrible service, unattractive ambience, rushed more

Authentic fresh quick sushi on the cheap 2/22/2007

I have been frequenting this restaurant for many years now after having it recommended to me by several people. The food is awesome - hands down best and most fresh sushi I've ever had. And, especially if you go for lunch, this place is cheap! Sushi lunch for about $7 which comes with miso, salad, and green tea. This is no trendy sushi place with loud techno and funky names for the weird sushi concoctions. They have a pretty short sushi list, but everything they serve is fresh and tasty. When they are very busy, service is sometimes slow. You do not really have any one waitress who is assigned to you, so this usually speeds up service. I do not like getting stuck in the ""loud room"" next to the TV, because you tend to get ignored and the noise really echoes. Pros: Food, price, authenticity Cons: Slow when busy more

Excellent food qulaity, price, but poor service 1/30/2007

That what i used be, but since I've been going there for more than 14 years, they treat me like a king, and most remembers me by name... but all my friends I send, they all say, Good food, good price, horrible service. Some said they treat Japanese customers better, that's not true, it took me a while until they started to treat me better, it seems the royal treatment goes to a regular that's been going there for several years... The owner says, this restaurant is geared toward middle class Japanese Family, so they have pot-stickers and chicken wings which is not a regular Japanese menu. The fish gets flown in from Japan every Thursday, so if you are Sushi lover, go there on Friday or Saturday, don't go on Thursday. Pros: Good Japanese food cheap, where else can you get Chirashi for $11 Cons: Horrible and non-existing service more

Authenic 1/16/2007

Despite the other reviews on here, I highly recommend umezono. I received good service and food was great! Yeah, this place is not one of those trandy sushi place. But they serve good quality sushi for very reasonable price. Even if you dont like sushi, there are a lot of things that you can try on the menu. Pros: Food, Price more

Cheap! 11/18/2006

We tried to go there 3 times, first 2 times they totally ignored us while we were standing there waiting on a hostess to let us know how long is the wait, so we walked out... But our 3rd time was a charm, we were seated promptly, food was good... Pros: cheap Cons: service more

Do not recommend 8/10/2006

Service -- Strange to say the least. I don't think they're trying to be impolite, but turns out that way. Pros: ? Cons: Food, Service, Ambiance more

Great Sushi! 5/5/2006

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. The food is great and cheap! The sashimi is always fresh and the sushi chef is a pro. If you have a group of 7+ make reservations for the tatami room. I highly recommend this place if you're a sushi lover! Pros: sushi, tempura, inexpensive more

An affordable decent Japanese foods 3/17/2006

The foods are fantastic with reasonable price, which is good for daily dine out. Due to a high customer rate and limited seats, this restaurant is not the right choice for celebrating any special occasion. more

I would like to feel like I am in Japan! 10/11/2005

Yes I agree! Pretty poor service...need to be improve. I would like to feel like I am in Japan! Not just dressed japanese Kimono. Be a real! Pros: poor service more

Needed Japanese traditional services. 10/3/2005

We are very disappointed with their service. We have made reservation for our anniversary, but waitress told us that "" You Did Not Make Reservation But Anyway..."" she has very bad attitude, we did not want to celebrate at the restaurant, so we left there and we went to Italian restaurant and had a Nice Dinner! Real Japanese restaurant should hire polite waitress and who can speak decent Japanese language. more
