I cannot in good conscious recommend Tutor Time (“TT”) to any parents seeking childcare. Though my experience started off well, in the end, I found them to be extremely unprofessional, unknowledgeable and harmful to my child.
TT was ill-equipped to take care of my son due to their inadequacies (e.g., bad staffing, staff lacking skills, unprofessional staffing and unqualified staffing). Instead of noting their inadequacies (e.g., constant staff turnover, under-qualified teachers), they advised me that my child may be autistic (e.g., they told me he had echolalia); that he may have some type processing disorder; and that he needed to be evaluated but I should not take him his pediatrician for the pediatrician’s input as that would be “the worse place to start”. None of their claims were even remotely true.
My son came home from TT with deep scratches (to this day he still bears the scares). When asked what happened, the staff, including the director, were unable to tell me what happened. On several occasions, they told me he must scratched himself. He was bit a few times while at TT.
Whatever your decision, I recommend you interview potential providers very well. Be sure to ask if they have been subject to investigation by ACS. If so, ask why? Ask about the resolution of the investigation. Be sure to check the Department of Health website
https://a816-healthpsi.nyc.gov/ChildCare/SearchAction2.do?pager.offset=90 for violations by a provider. Ask the provider about the violations and the resolutions.
Know your rights as a parent; review Article 47 of the New York City Health Code. Ask about the storage of your personal information and if the provider will return it to you once your child leaves their care. Note: Although requested several times, TT has to date, refused to return any of my family’s personal information (e.g., son’s medical records, contact information, etc.).
Be fair but be tough as they are taking care and influencing your child.
