Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital

I love this place! I started bringing my older girl to Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital around 2009. All the staff has always been so helpful. When it was time to let my girl go in November (she was diagnosed with a brain tumor), Dr. Blossey did a house call, so her last moments would be peaceful in her bed. Not only were they able to do a house call for my girls last moments, but the doctors and staff sent me a sweet sympathy card, after losing her. I have recently adopted another dog, whom I had to bring in for an upset stomach, and even though she has nervous tendencies, she was very at home and comfortable during her visit. I will continue to bring her to Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital, as I can't imagine there being a better place to take her. The doctors and staff have truly made me and all my pets feel like family. more

Called this vet office today after calling at least 5 other local vet office asking specific questions on cat pregnancy and testing ext. From being rudely told at others ""uh I can't freaking diagnose over the phone mam"" to be flat out left on eternal hold (Aloma Jancy),,,,I believe her name was Andrea was so extremely helpful and patient and informative with me today just talking to me on the phone and trying to help me out with info. Recently, I brought my dog in and was told my dear pet had bladder stones and that the condition was ""life threatening"". I never met Dr. Blossey before, even though I have been a ""long time"" customer, and I went along with her suggestion (what else could I do?). The bill came to $1450 - just to remove the stones. I swallowed hard and wondered how I was going to pay for this. I am not wealthy. What did I get for this premium price? Poor service. The animal became incontinent - it urinated throughout the day and night. My dear pet lost bladder control for days and days. Blossey said this was unusual but to keep an eye on it. After a week, there was no improvement. I requested that my dog be re-examined (the vet did not make this request by the way, I had to). Dr. Blossey examined her on the floor in the waiting room - on the floor, not in an examination room. Didn't I just pay $1450? - and this is the service I get? I was extremely disappointed and angry. In addition to the medicine my dog was already on, Blossey gave me yet another medicine to try to control the incontinence. I assumed there would be no charge but, oh no, I was charged every penny for it even though it was not expensive (and it didn't work). I was also charged for a mild sedative (which I requested) because the dog was not comfortable the first night after the operation. Guess what? Another charge. When I complained about each of these additional charges after paying this ""hospital"" $1450, I was told ""well, at least Dr. Blossey did not charge you for the (dirty-waiting-room-floor) exam."" What an insult. Talk about being nickel-ed and dime-ed. They even charged me for the dogs ""head cone"" which had advertisement written all over it (so you know Dr. Fullenwider's vet hospital probably got it for free). The days of reasonable fees and excellent service - the days of Dr. Rubenstein, the original owner - are long gone. I am convinced that the young vets at Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital need to pay back their student loans and pay them back as fast as possible. I'm not saying that the young vets there won't take care of simple doggie needs but if your animal ever needs an operation, hold on to your wallet. Sadly, after many years of going there, I choose to take my business elsewhere. After all, my animals are getting older and will likely need future operations. But Dr. Fullenwider and colleagues will no longer have my business - I can't afford them and I have lost confidence in them . I checked other vets in the area and found one that has over 20 years experience, excellent customer reviews, and charges ""a third"" of what Dr. Blossey and Dr. Fullenwider charged for the exact same procedure. That's two-thirds less!. They quoted me the price. So what did I do? Well, after still no improvement with my pet under the care of TOAH, I went to this new vet who quickly took a urine sample, found something he did not like, took my pet off all of the current medications and put him on new ones. In a day or two my dog improved significantly. I found my vet. I believe I was taken advantage of by Dr. Blossey and by Dr. Fullenwider's Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital. Sadly, they lost a long-time customer. And not just me but also my other family members. I do not like writing reviews like this but I just wanted to share my most recent personal experience. If pet owners don't share their experiences with other pet owners, who will? Take my experience for what it's worth. more

I have a miniature poodle and he has never been given better care. The office staff is friendly and helpful; the vets are fantastic. When my dog broke his leg (after office hours, of course), Dr. McPhereson, who had just left, came back to the office and did x-rays and put on a splint and cast in a matter of minutes. I don't take my baby anywhere else. It may run a bit on the pricey side, but it's well worth it. more

My poodle's standard, no complication, operation to remove bladder stones cost $1500. A few years ago, another pet needed an operation to remove something stuck in the intestines. It cost $900 and the animal did not survive the operation (I am not blaming anyone, I'm just commenting on the cost). To get yearly exams, shots, and standard preventative medication, it costs between $220 and $280 depending on the pet (again, that's per year and per pet). When Dr. Rubenstein owned the practice I did not have such concerns. The practice is no longer owned by him and I have been seeing a different, young vet each time I visit. The vets seem to be recruited right out of vet school. After going to Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital for 15 years, it's time for me to look elsewhere. I just can't afford their fees and hope I can locate a more affordable practice. If they're all like this, it may be time for me to do without pets. And that would be unfortunate. more

I recently moved to the area and decided to try this play on the basis of the mostly good reviews. Maybe I went on a bad day, but I found most of the staff to be abrupt, hurried (and I was there in the morning) and a little rude. There was a problem with my bill, and the tech insisted she'd preformed services that I knew she hadn't. Dr. McPherson was great with my dog, but the rest of my experience was so unpleasant, I'm not sure I'll go back. more

Finally I found a vet clinic that can see me the same day I call, whose staff is always friendly, and whose doctors seem honestly interested in the well-being of my pet. Their prices are very reasonable, especially with the amount of time the vets there will spend answering your concerns, and the amount of care they show for your animal. more

I went to TOAH for years. They were different when Dr. Rubenstein was there. Very caring and understanding, there for you and your pet. Not now. My dog went in to have a lump removed from his back leg and a teeth cleaning. I was told that the cleaning would be $100 since he was already under from another procedure. When I picked up my dog and looked at the invoice I was charges $160 for the cleaning. I then had to wait 20 min for someone to talk to me about the over charge and was told ""That's what it is, can""t do anything about it"" Then 5 days later the stitches can apart and now there is a hole in his incision. I took him in the following morning and they took care of it giving him 13 STAPLES were they originally put 5 stitches. The first repair looked like an intern stitched him...so loose and not tight and neat like the staples. Why couldn't they use staples the first time?!?!?! And then they had the nerve to charge me $174 for ""fixing"" the first repair. I'm DONE. \r \r It's true as others have stated, the front desk girls are rude. more

I have been going to Tuscawilla Oaks for 3 years now and they are wonderful. I always feel like part of the family. The entire staff is always friendly and hospitable. My pets have seen each of the doctors there, and I've been satisfied with all of them. They've always given my pets the extra attention that they deserve, and you can't ask for more than that! While sometimes you have to wait a little while, it's definitely worth it. I've recommended all my friends there and will gladly spread the word! Pros: great doctors and staff, trusting care more

I took my dogs there for years, even though it was a 40 minute drive to get there from where I live now. They seemed to do a good job and I just stuck with it. I still think it is a safe place to take your pet. But... Im not going back.\r My dog HATES having his nails clipped. Even with the best tool, lots of petting, and never cutting them too short he just hates it. So I asked if I could have his nails cut while he was under anesthesia for teeth cleaning. The desk person said they could do it for $9, but charged me $11 on the bill. ( I also specifically repeated this request when I dropped him off ) When I got the dog home later I noticed the nails were not cut. I figured they just forgot, no biggie, but I called back to have my money for that service refunded. I told the person who answered the phone what happened, and when she returned to the phone after checking she told me that the technician said she had indeed cut the nails. She had cut two paws worth while he was awake and he ""freaked out"" so she cut the other two while he was under.\r \r So in spite of asking specifically to have them cut while he was under, they still cut some while he was awake. And the fact is, they didnt cut them. I ask you... if they are still so long that they cause the toes to curve a little when he stands up, are they cut? They dont look cut to me. I think I should know what cut dog nails look like on my dog after cutting them monthly for 11 years. Please! I let them grow that long on purpose in anticipation of sparing him the grief of cutting while he is awake. \r \r Even from a business sense its illogical. Say I'm wrong, they did cut the nails. Are you going to quibble with a customer who spends about $200 annually in your store over 11 dollars? Really? They refused to refund the money, but offered to cut the dog's nails again. I guess the part about how the whole point was to have him asleep while they're cut just sailed over all their heads, even though I mentioned it repeatedly. Why would I pay someone to cut his nails while he's awake? I'll do that! I dont need to pay anyone.\r \r Thanks but no thanks.... I'll be taking my business somewhere else, there is nothing special about this establishment that warrants a 40 minute drive. My dog is a new patient at Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital and I've been extremely impressed by the professional care their staff have displayed. I became a fan (and my dog became a patient) after the 'open house' the hospital held in the spring. I would highly recommend Tuscawilla Oaks to anyone who has a loved pet in their life. The review by 'Puglife' seems highly uncharacteristic of the staff from what I can tell. I know it's been a brief time, but I've never experienced any behavior or care that is less than stellar from the doctors or techs. Pros: Genuinely care about their patients, friendly staff more

I took my baby pug in because he got hives from a bite...they didnt have a doctor assist me(I Have been here before so I thought I could trust them)...they had a butch tech. who was very unprofessional wearing jeans and a piercing tell me to give my dog human benadryl. The next day my dog started going into seizures and couldnt walk.....I would NOT EVER take my dog to such irrisponsible people. The staff is really friendly and caring, we've taken our 2 cats there for 8 years since we moved into the area. The only problem I have is that when I make an appointment, I am there usually 5 mins. early, but I am never seen until at least 30 mins after my appointment. I stay because of the care and personal attention, but the extra attention definately puts them off schedule. Pros: Friendly Service Cons: Long Wait more

The staff is always extra friendly and I've never been denied entry whenever anyone in the office saw me outside even if it was a few min. after closing time. It's happened at least twice. (Granted I call to let them know I'm running late and am on the way.) We've had 2 older dogs treated by them and I know Dr. Rubenstien and his staff did everything possible for them. He did everything he could for one of my dogs that had a brain tumor after our previous vet misdiagnosed her and sent us on our way, and he extended the life of one of our dogs w/ a very serious heart problem significantly. I now take my new cat to Dr. McPhearson and I'm confident he receives the best care. I've never been anything with pleased with this office in the near 10 years I've been seeing them. I would absolutly recommend Dr. McPhearson!! She is professional and down to earth. If we were not moving out of state I would use her as my vet!! more

I have been going to Tuskawilla Oaks Animal Hospital for about 2 years and I have no complaints. Dr. McPhearson has taken great care of my 2 cats, Sake & Sophie. She has been very helpful and professional. Regarding the comment below, if someone came into your work late or after hours wouldn't you be irritated? I would. Not everyone is going to like everything 100% so find out for yourself. I absolutly sugguest the animal hospital and the Dr's there. more

I have been a client of Tuscawilla Oaks Animal Hospital for 14 years. All of the doctors are friendly, caring, and take emergency care on the weekends. Some of the previous reviews are a joke. If someone showed up at your work late would you open the door for them? NO. So what is the problem? Some people can find anything to complain about and do. If someone has been going their for 10 years and had one bad experience, complain, and leave because of it is stupid. What about the 10 years of no problems? I guess it's hard to please some people-those who expect way more then they give. Everyone-staff included have always been so good to us. They have done a great job with all my animals. Thank you. I highly recommend this veterinarian for service and quality doctors. The doctors are excellent, esp. Dr. Willey, who is wonderful, caring and very knowledgable. You would be hard pressed to find a more devoted staff than this! I have been using Tuskawilla Oaks for the last 15 years (2 cats 1 dog) and cant imagine better care. The Dr followed up with a weekend call to check how my cat was doing and is always willing to take time to explain diagnosis and follow up. I have been recommending family and friends to Dr. Rubinstein for years and the care has been wonderful I cant imagine a more proffesional or caring staff! Pros: Office hours are awesome. more
