A MUST TRY 2/6/2009

If you are looking for a mom & pop Italian restaurant this is the place for you - IT IS A MUST! Because the food is so good there is a big following - and they don't take reservations. The waiting area is about the size of a phone booth so if it is raining you could end up standing out side and because of the small size it is not a good location for a big group (more than 6 people). Pros: Big Menu Selection Cons: Small Venue more

Thoughtful service, good food 2/22/2008

My favorite thing about Tropea? The service. Every time I have dined there, either with friends, family, or by myself, the service has been consistantly gracious with thoughtful suggestions. Water glasses and drinks are refilled regularly, wait staff checks frequently but not to a level of obnixousness, and the food is delivered quickly and always at the right temperature for the dish. \r \r The quality of the food is good althought not stellar. The best reason to eat here is for good food with a fun and attentive ambiance. more

Valentine's Day Fiasco 2/16/2008

My experience with Tropea was awful. It was Valentine's Day, so it is understandable that things were super busy. In the end, a promised meal didn't happen, they hung up the phone on me, and a special evening was almost ruined. The experience was a real disappointment, and created a crisis for me!\r \r I called the restaurant at 4:30pm. I asked if they could fill a take out order early in the evening. The gentleman said yes. He was welcoming and happy to talk to me. I was about to place the order, but he suggested looking at the website and calling back. I was on the road, he said around 5:30pm was fine. \r \r When I called back around 5:30pm, a second person answered the phone. When I mentioned the agreement with the first gentleman, he said ""Who did you talk to?"" Then I heard a bunch of yelling in the background. He came back and said, ""We can't take a to-go order."" Click. Yes, really, he hung up on me. I was upset. It is not pleasant to be livid as you prepare for your Valentine's Day evening!\r \r I called a second time- it turns out it was a simple misunderstanding. I thought _near_ 5:30 was good, he thought I was calling _before_ 5:30. So the few minutes made a big difference to him. Honestly, had I known I had to call _before_ 5:30, I wouldn't have just spent 15 minutes examining the menu and talking to my sweetie!\r \r I really enjoyed the original conversation with this restaurant. I like the high spirited authentic feeling, even from the yelling! But it is inappropriate to hang up on a customer. It is important to back the word of an employee, even if they make a poor decision. Tropea will not be in my plans for the future.\r \r Thank goodness I was able to save the evening with the excellent customer service with Pasta Nova in Woodinville. I hope Tropea's customer service would keep up with the quality of the food. Really a shame. Pros: great reputation for great food Cons: customer service more

Best Italian food on the Eastside 2/2/2008

This is the best Italian food my wife and I have found on the Eastside. The place is cozy, with a great wine selection. I have something different everytime we go and have never been disappointed. The staff are prompt and very friendly. They make us feel like family each ttime we dine there. We especially love the chocolate covered Canolies for desert. more

Great Find! 12/6/2007

Tropea is a great little restaurant in Redmond that is well worth the drive! The food and wine are delicious and the atmosphere is cozy. Their wine is imported from Italy and hard to find at mainstream stores but sold at the restaurant for decent prices. The service is prompt and friendly. Portion sizes are large and you will leave with enough leftovers for a second meal! I highly reccomend this restaurant to Italian-food lovers! Pros: Delicous food and wine Cons: Restaurant is very small and not a good place to each with a large group of people more

Best Tiramisu I ever had ... Make sure you shake hands with Lorenzo ! 8/31/2006

This place is VERY Italian. Lorenzo (the owner) took personal interest in helping us choose the entrees for us Vegetarians. Rest of the wait staff treated us with respect. This place has a HUGE selection of wines. An entire wall is decked with vino from Italy. The wine list is almost like a book. However, the best part was the Tiramisu. By far the best one I ever had. It really ""Took Me Higher"". I am sure you will have a good time. Thanks Lorenzo. Pros: Very friendly wait staff and awesome Tiramisu Cons: Small place but hey - thats the fun part of it. more

Authentic Italian Cuisine 3/12/2006

No matter what day of the week, whether is lunch or dinner, you always count on a ""molto bene"", authentic italian meal. Lorenzo and his staff always provide you with the best Italian cuisine and a very impressive wine menu. Don't forget to order some mouth watering cannoli for dessert! Pros: delicious food, ambience, wine selection more

Don't be scared by the way it looks... 10/11/2004

Come here for the food, not the ambiance. For the money, it's tough to beat this one. Service is OK, wine list is good, but the resturant is very cluttered and yes, they use cheesy tablecloths, dishes, etc. Pros: Great food, Cheap!, Good wine Cons: , Cluttered more

Quick and Good 9/15/2004

Extensive wine list, decent pasta, great service. There are not a lot of good Italian places in Seattle, and even fewer in Redmond. This one meets the bar in every way, but I found nothing especially exceptional about it. I eat here whenever I feel like Italian but do not feel like driving very far. Pros: Wine List, Parking, No reservation needed more

worth the drive 9/24/2003

we love italian food and are always in search of a new place to try... made the drive over based on the other reviews here. it was worth it! the tables were a bit crowed for my taste, but other than that, FANTASTIC!!! having my leftovers for lunch the next day only made me want more---we'll be back! Pros: great service, good parking, tasty food Cons: tables too crammed in more

Great Italian food & wine 2/25/2003

Superb service, the food is great and the collection of italian winesis huge. The pasta specials are consistently good, the pasta cooked to perfection. more

Yummy...every time 1/20/2003

I eat here more often than my wallet would like to admit. Always a pleasure......Their creme based sauces rule my world!!!!! Pros: great value, warm ambiance more

great find 12/17/2002

excellent food, great waiters, and inexpensive to boot. there was nothing outstanding about tropea but it was very good food and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere with attentive, fun waiters. yes, there are plastic tablecloths and some cheesy decor but don't let that stop you - i'd go back in a sec. more
