Disappointing that they offer no discounts or coupons for ""single"" adults. Also, their children discount is complicated.....75 cents per year of child....yet 11 years and older...

Value, value, value 10/21/2011

Well, it ain't fancy, but I'd say Treasure Island is the best value for the money anywhere in Portland if you're in a hurry, starving for great, fast, nourishing hot food that's cheap and delicious. At lunch, I come with the guys at work and pile it on, two, three plate loads. Orange chicken and kung pao chicken are my favorites. My wife loves the Chinese vegetables--baby bok choy and the hot and sour soup. We bring the kids once a month and there's always something that appeals: the Chinese deep fried donuts without the holes, the jello, sliced oranges, etc. I like the high ceilings. Nice place. more

Authentic Chinese Food 10/3/2011

Finally found it...authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price. Great place to relax and enjoy authentic Chinese food at a low price. The servers are friendly and the food constantly being replenished. Talk to the owner for special dishes as they are always willing to please. more

Nastiest Chinese Buffet on the planet...bar none... 1/17/2011

Absolute trash…doesn’t even deserve a 1 star rating. I’m not sure how this establishment is still even in business! Nasty food….nasty owner….world’s worst “Chinese” food ever created. I will never ever ever set foot in this dump again. Do yourselves a favor and go eat at McDonalds rather than be subjected to their 11.99 buffet of greasy tasteless crap. The restrooms were overflowing with feces. The food tasted like it had been sitting out all day long. Really the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my entire life. Oh and did I mention the owner/manager Jim is a crook? Fits the profile of the used car salesman. I have already contacted the Oregon health dept. to have a food inspector over there pronto. They have creepy wait staff, just a real dump of a place…DO NOT GO THERE!! more

Great place to eat! 9/18/2010

I have been to this restaurant many times. We go there because my husband is a big fan of buffet and likes getting things at a discount. This place usually has coupons in the clipper for discounted dining. The staff is always friendly. The waitress has not been as good in refilling our drinks as it had been done in the past. I am not sure if they are changing their policy. When I went up to get a drink for my husband, the manager/owner refilled the drink for me. Personally, it should have been done by the waitress, but the manager/owner is very nice and friendly. The food is good, just not as hot as I like it. I just like my food steaming hot. I don't know how they do it, but I like there eggplant. I don't eat eggplant any where else. When you are there during the busy times, they have a chef available for you to get your food cooked in front of you. They have a bar that you can assemble the ingredients before the chef cooks it. The food is also much better during the busy times. If you like, when you arrive, you can ask if the chef is available. more

Don't go here!!!! 9/5/2010

We were excited to try this place. The people were very nice...but the food was horrible and the restaurant was not clean. \r \r The food was not very hot in most cases. Most of the chafing dishes were empty and not refilled very quickly. While there were some really interesting things to try I can't say I really did try them because everything else I was familiar with didn't taste like it should have...how can I guarantee the new stuff was how it should actually taste. A lot of the stuff was not marked so you had no clue what it was. \r \r The food was just yuck all the way around. There was a lot of it there but other than the teriyaki salmon and general tso's chicken there was nothing worth eating...and those two you had to eat lukewarm. more

worst chinese food very unfriendly host 12/5/2009

The host was so unfriendly. It was my husbands bday so he was supposed to get his meal for free. The host acted like it was a huge imposition and without a smile or hello he walked us to our table. The food was horrible! All the food was cold and disgusting. We were looking forward to a nice birthday meal and this place was a huge disappointment! This place also seemed very dirty. I doubt they have been inspected in awhile. We would not recommend this place to anyone! more

Great place to eat and relax 8/10/2009

The variety and quality of the food are unmatched in any restaurant that I have been to. The staff are top rate, friendly and very helpful. I was there after it sold a couple of years ago. I am glad it is back as treasure island again. If you want a great variety, excellent quality and very friendly people to help you. Treasure Island buffet is the place to go. It is definately worth the trip!\r Rich and Penny from Damascus Pros: The best buffet Around Cons: I wish I lived closer so I could go more often more

I would NEVER recommend it! The food is... well everything BUT anything related to good! They changed their name but really, don't try it! This is not real chinese food! more

Excellent selection showcasing authentic dishes 12/31/2006

I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe from that of the previous reviewer, but I think Treasure Island takes the cake as the best Chinese buffet in the area. Perhaps China Moon has increased its quality of late, but I stopped going there a long time ago, because Treasure Island is the far superior establishment. (Although I have not tried Treasure Island for dinner, so perhaps that is the discrepancy?) This place boasts a large selection that goes beyond your General Tso's chicken and Kung Pao Shrimp (although they have these as well), and features authentic dishes seldom seen elsewhere. Check out the little table in the back, behind the buffet bars, which usually houses saran-wrapped bowls of pickled daikon radish, pig ear, and beef tripe. Open up the adjacent steamer for cute shou tao--buns filled with red bean paste and decorated to look like peaches. On weekends, Treasure Island offers traditional Chinese breakfast fare--soy milk with you tiao (crispy crullers), shao bing (sesame seed buns), and the like. These special items are what set Treasure Island apart from its competitors, but most everything else here is similarly well done. There is also a salad bar with limited sushi selection if you tire of the Chinese fare. The dessert bar typically offers several Chinese desserts (Chinese donuts, tang yuan--glutinous rice flour-balls in a sweet soup) as well as an assortment of cookies, jello and pudding. And if you're still hungry, don't forget the self-serve soft serve ice cream machine in the rear of the restaurant. For all this bounty, the price is reasonable--all-you-can-eat lunch will set you back about $7 a person on weekdays. No self-serve beverages, but tea and water are complimentary. The seating (booths and tables) is spacious, and the place is well-lit with a huge vaulted ceiling, giving it a very airy feel. I've been here many times, and it's always been a consistently satisfying experience. Pros: Selection, authenticity, value more

MSG Headache 12/2/2006

I've been to a few chinese buffets in town and this was the worse. Me and carnivorous_pretzel used an entertainment guide coupon for 25% off each of our buffet meals and came here a 2nd time to give them another chance.\r \r The crab legs tasted like the smell of urine, the eggrolls were thick and chewy, not delicate and krispy as they should be. The selection was not great. The common chinese meat dishes were so so and the sushi was poor in selection and so so.\r \r The service, atmosplere and building are all nice. It's too bad the food is not good here. There are many better buffets to go to in the area. China Moon beats this one out. See my review of Super King & Super King II buffets. They rock! Pros: service Cons: price, selection, quality more
