I cannot believe how poorly the owner and staff treat their customers. The food is OK, but they seem out of many menu items. We go to many neighborhood restaurants in the area, an...

Excellent Italian Restaurant 4/1/2012

Excellent food! The staff were so nice and friendly. I accidentally spilled my water and they graciously moved the 4 of us to another table. The ambience was delightful! It was crowded but we still got wonderful service! We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it! more

Believe it or not i had the same experience...we were at this small party in the theatre room, and this little young guy almost couldn t get the order, he was drunk!!!!We were shocked..,we wanted to talk to the manager about it but we just left..!!!!never again it was embarrassing.. more

Rudeness,really unprofessional people!! 8/18/2011

I went there a couple of times before with people that i work with and the food was fine...the only thing unfortunately! At first we stopped at the bar where we had a glass of wine, (i was there with my wife that night was a saturday) the bartender didn t even talk to us,very serious and she was too busy checking her phone and watch herself at the mirror..we asked for a raccomandation about the food and she didn t have any idea about it...are you serious??We just paid and had the dinner at the table.Good food, but very slow service and was obvious that the waiter couldn t wait to go home..anyway we ate and left. The worst thing was the other night when i don t know why we decided to try again after the last exsperience that we had...there were 2 gay guys close to our table having a dinner togheter...the waiter who was there (little chubby with strong east european accent) couldn t stop to make bad comments about them with other waiters there, bad words, and laughing behind their back...this is shameless and unbelievable.Very unprofessional and rude.So we are done with this place and according to other friends who also went there they said their waiter was drunk that night...what kind of place is that?Shame. more

Great Before Threater Restaurant 8/14/2011

I hesitated going to this restaurant last night because of several negative reviews online. I had been there 2 years ago and like it so I went again. I was not disappointed! The wine list was 50% off and the pre-theater dinner was $25. My friend and I had the red snapper and my husband had the chicken. We all enjoyed it and didn't leave a crumb on our plates. We sat downstairs and it was quiet, the wait staff was extremely attentive, and we felt like it was a feast. For the price, this is hard to beat. I will go again. LN more

Seriously...18% mandatory tip for rudeness?!?! 1/18/2011

Went to NYC last week for leisure (2 couples). Went there after reading some good reviews at Citysearch and Google Maps. Couldn't be more disappointed! Even though the food quality was good and the ingredients were all fresh, the portion sizes were extremely small and the service was awful! Our waiter was rude and he was ignoring us all night and the only thing he cared about was if we'd like to have an extra $10 dessert or a $100 wine... When we received the check there was an 18% gratuity included and space for extra tip!!!! We did not complain thinking that this should be written in the menu somewhere but when we looked at it there was no such footnote! There are many great Italian restaurants in NYC and this is definitely NOT one of them ! more

Never to Return 1/18/2011

Rarely have my wife and I been so disappointed in a restaurant. My wife ordered saltinbocca which arrived at the table in less than ten minutes - clearly not cooked to order. Her broccoli was cold (as in unheated). My pasta dish was stuck together, dry and the meat that came with it was pot roast style without a barolo flavor as stated. The wine list was ridiculously expensive - over 80% of the wines were $100 bottle and up and the 'inexpensive' house wines averaged $11 a glass. The experience was that of a money hungry meat grinder. more

Overrated and Disappointing 11/27/2010

There was nothing special about this restaurant experience--in fact, it was downright bad and very disappointing for a Saturday night! The service was very slow (yet we ate at 5:30 when there was no crowd), and our food was lukewarm when brought to the table (as if we had been overlooked and it was sitting for a while before being delivered). The lobster raviolis were two dry half moons of pasta glued together with barely any filling, and I had to ask for more sauce. The other pasta dishes were no better than anything you could make at home, and a beef short ribs dish was also dry and needed more sauce. We couldn't get out of there fast enough, with no desire for coffee and dessert. Go down the street to John's or Carmine's when in the theater district--this place is overpriced and a waste of time and money!! more

Busy place, but great food!!!! 11/16/2010

My wife and I went there to celebrate her birthday and we needed to get out fast to catch a musical. Our experience was great! They were timely, courteous and the food was delicious. So there you go...if you are in the NYC area, this is a good place to eat, relax and get around the city. The Cruz's more

amazing experience 8/31/2010

We had reservations and were seated promptly. They had an extensive, well-selected wine list from Italy and the world. The homemade bread was delicious and so were the pasta dishes and the pizza. Service was attentive and friendly. It was a great experience all around. more

Trattoria Forgetaboutit 5/22/2010

Had reservation for over 1 week and they sat us at the bar, when the upstairs was somewhat empty.(strike one) The appetizers were nice portions the tuna tartar very fresh but the roasted artichokes were not roasted( right from the can). The risotto with sepia and black ink was very good, except sepia is cuttlefish NOT calamari. The main course was Osso Bucco which was very salty as was the Roasted StuFfed Veal Chop(strike two). Upon ordering a bottle of Pinot Noir I was informed they were out of this lable, after giving them another Pinot Noir I was later(much later) told that they were out of Pinot Noir and I was offered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon( was told that this was close to what I ordered)(strike three). The coffee was luke warm and the tarte was so-so.There were a few other items that would be a waste of your time, as would going to this restaurant(?) in the first place. I know my restaurants and this is not one to go to. Cons: I'll explain in the details more

Amazing dinner : ) 12/2/2009

We were a party of 8 on a Thursday night going to the theater, so I was a little worried about the experience, but they made our night. The hostess was very friendly and sat us right away at a very nice round table in the dinning room. The waiter was so attentive and nice despite the fact that he had his hands full with lots of other tables. He was a very nice Italian guy named Roberto, ask for him when you go, the guy is great and knows a lot about food and wine. He helped us to choose a great bottle for the table of Chianti classico that complemented our dishes perfectly. Well and than comes the food, simply amazing! We had the ossobuco, better than I've ever had! My husband still raves about his sea bass, it was crispy and delicious. My sister had an amazing pasta with rabbit ragout. I had this delicious salad with shredded apples, blue cheese, sun dried tomatoes and speck. Oh, you get the idea... Everyone of my guests was raving about the food. Needless to say, I'm planning another dinner there and recommend the restaurant very highly. We made the play and really had a wonderful experience! Thank you guys : ) Pros: Great food, polite service, great locations Cons: crowded more

Delizioso 6/24/2009

The first time I've been to Dopo Teatro I ordered a plate of pasta and it was delicious! I love this restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone! The food, service, and design is amazing! I also met the chef and he looked like a wonderful cook and was very sweet to me and my boyfriend. After that night I've been there more then 20 times! It is a wonderful restaurant and it is located in a the heart of Manhattan! I've also been there for New Years and even though it was extremely crowded the service was still amazing and the food was DELICIOUS! The only thing I can say is that I love this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone! Pros: Food, Wine, Service, and Design! more

Very Good 5/27/2009

One Star is still being generous 2/17/2009

I went here with my girlfriend for dinner thinking we would be treated for a nice meal, boy were we wrong. The waiter kept looking at us like it was a bother just to do what he was suppose to do and that was just take our order. The service was bad, the food was just as bad. Me and my girlfriend couldn't decide which one was worse the service or the food. We couldn't flag him down for water or even when we had to get the check. The only glorifying thing was seeing the waiters look on his face when we left him a penny tip. Like he expected more for not doing his Job. Take it from me there are plenty of other spots that you can go to for authentic Italian cuisine for half the price Pros: look on the waiters face when we left a penny tip Cons: Everything else more

Tasty Italian 2/6/2009

We went here before a Broadway show. Everyone loved their meal. The food was prepared very nicely and served by friendly people. The atmosphere was quite nice and we'd go back again. Pros: Food, Service, Location more

WORST PLACE EVER~!!!! 12/20/2008

Do NOT come here!!! Worst food and service I may have EVER experienced! Sat for at least an hour while ALL the waiters working refused to make eye contact! Finally someone took our order but soon after, even the appetizers came before the waiter realized AND THEN served us our bottle of wine. Most unimpressive food and ridiculous service ever... I would give this establishment negative ratings!!!!!!!!! Cons: service, food more

VERY GOOD!! 12/12/2008

Trattoria Dopo Teatro was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill Times Square Italian restaurant but ended up really liking it. Our waiter was excellent and the food was very good. The ambiance was also very nice. Recommended for NYers and tourists alike. Pros: Italian Food, Ambiance, Waiters more

Editorial
  • Due to its prime Theater District location, this cavernous Italian eatery is often overlooked by locals, and is instead frequented by tourists trying to zip in and out before a show. What a shame,...
