Used to be one of my fav's 10/19/2011

Four years ago I raved about the service and the food, well today dirty glasses and dishes, and sloppy waitstaff left me feeling like this place is going down. the salad was fresh and the white bean dip were very good but the overall uncleaness made me uneasy about eating there. Such a roomy and spacious building very unique the waitstaff needs to keep this in mind. Who is running this place? more

Unique (the good kind) 8/7/2008

I've been a semi-regular at the Traffic Jam for about 3 years now and have only had good overall experiences. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed and the wait staff has also been a pleasure. Sometimes the food takes a little while, but I have yet to be dissapointed by the taste. Their menu is unique and big enough to find something you'll like. I'll admit that it's nothing fancy, but the food is good, hearty, sticks to your ribs cookin' that's great after a hard day at work or for a lazy afternoon lunch. Pros: service, parking, food, ambience Cons: occasional waiting for food more

No Longer the Favorite Spot in the City 5/1/2008

I have tried hard to overlook to downhill slide in the food. Last Wed. was my last visit to TJ's. The potato soup was like something served in prison.Lox was hard and old, the ""spread"" was watered down sour cream that would not stick to crackers. I did enjoy the 2 strawberries on the plate. The stuffed potato was burned and embarrassingly small. But the biggest disappointment was the Carlotta. The small plate was mostly covered with ice cream with freezing cold sauce!!!! \r Trying to save money is losing you the most valuable asset you have, the customers. Sorry to see you go. Pros: free parking Cons: food more

flabbergasted 1/9/2008

I went in a few weeks ago to have lunch. After being told my first two choices were unavailable, I waited 45 minutes for my third choice. It looked terrible. Poor presentation. When I brought it to my waitresses attention she hung her head. It seemed this wasn't the first time today she had this conversation. After apologizing multiple times she discounted my item. I wondered what she was apologizing for... did she make my food look like this? Did it take her 45 minutes to make it? I feel people should not critique the service so harshly. I would be lackadaisical as well if the food I ordered took that long and looked like that. If a restaurant doesn't take itself seriously, why would the wait staff? more

Good food in a fun atmosphere 7/4/2007

We've eaten at the Traffic Jam several times during the past three years. I *love* their vegetarian lasagna and bread pudding, plus their homemade breads are always good too. Prices are quite moderate and the interior is really fun. I admit that service is varied; sometimes friendly and sometimes aloof. There's a good-sized parking lot right across the street and I just heard that they've recently instituted outdoor seating for warm weather. Pros: Delicious ""comfort"" food and a neat interior Cons: Sometimes-lackadaisical service more

Microwaved for your consumption. 6/18/2007

I usually like this restaurant. Our last meal there and the correspondence with management after the meal make me question this place.\r \r My fiance really hates mushrooms. The waiter was certain they were not in the spinach lasagna. Once she starting eating her meal she found several large chunks of mushrooms. The waiter said they were not mushrooms but most likely burnt pasta. Without a doubt they were mushrooms.\r \r I ordered the $14 meatloaf. It came with peas and sweet potato fries. The entire plate was microwaved. It looked awful. I asked the waiter to swap the sides for some soup. He said sweet potato fries sometimes look like that. It was an expensive TV dinner!\r \r An email to the restaurant detailing the experience got a response. The management said the mushrooms were a new addition and they didn't inform the entire staff. She said the peas and meatloaf are ALWAYS microwaved. It was a rather weak response. She didn't seem at all considered with making sure our business returned.\r \r Eat here if you want an overpriced microwave meal! I hope this experience isn't an indication that Traffic Jam & Snug is going downhill. Pros: In Detroit's Midtown Cons: Microwaved meals, staff not educated on menu, poor customer service more

Dissapointed 4/4/2007

I've eaten here three times in the past two months with business associates- I have not been impressed. Service? Depends on who you get. First time, our waitress was young and very nice. Second time we were put in a section with a waiter who obviously thought he was too good to wait tables. Third time we left, no one ever came to wait on us. Food? The food is mediocre. House salad was wilted, bread was a couple days old, entree items not worth the price (except if you order fish and chips, they are pretty good huge portion). A woman, who I would hate to believe is the owner is usually there helping seat customers and get out food- she lacks finesse when handling with customers. One of my associates complained to the waiter about service, I overheard on my way to the restroom him talking to her to sum it up she didn't want to deal with us. Needless to say, we no longer spend our money there. This place has great potential to be really wonderful... oh well. more

A Detroit Landmark 1/10/2007

This restaurant has something for everyone - burgers, international fare, vegetarian options. If you can't find something to eat here, you're too picky! Prices are reasonable considering that all of the food is completely made from scratch. Great for a quick lunch or a casual dinner, in a large group or with a date, this is a great all-purpose restaurant that is completely one-of-a-kind and a Detroit landmark. more

Interesting fair 10/4/2006

Good vegetarian options. My meat eating husband likes it as well. They are constantly varying their huge list of specials, but their main menu has good eats as well. Pros: Great selection of food Cons: parking more

Great atmosphere 6/13/2006

In screech for something different then the usual bar food found around the ball park, we decided on stopping at JTs for dinner before taking in a Tigers game. The service was good and everyone seemed to enjoy there dinners. I settled on having the fish and chips which was very good. After having a couple 22oz brew beers with dinner, I was to full for desert. Pros: Service more

Ain't What is Used to be! 2/1/2005

I used to be a TJ's fanatic... couldn't go more that a week without a visit. Now after more than half a dozen disappointments, I'll probably never go back. Somewhat acceptable vegetarian fare, $20 rubber steaks, decent desserts and awful service. Pros: Dessert, Parking Cons: Overpriced, Poor Quality, Poor Service more

Overated 11/26/2002

Went on a class trip to TJs. Do not get me wrong the food is good. But it is nothing special at all. It doesnt taste bad but there is nothing special about it. There are no free refills on drinks, no fries come with the sandwiches. My sandwhich cost $8.00 and was small and didn't taste like anything spectacular. This place is extremely overated. The inside is plain, and the decorations are corny. more

WHAT YOU WANT 8/2/2002

I HAVE VISITED THIS RESTAURANT WITH A LARGE GROUP, MY FAMILY, AND ON A DATE AND THE FOOD IS ALWAYS EXCELLENT, SERVICE WITH A SMILE BUT NOT PLASTERED ON, ATMOSPHERE IS NICE AND ROMANTIC BUT NOT SO DARK YOU CAN'T SEE YOUR FOOD. IT'S WHAT YOU WANT. more

I've been eating at TJ's since I was too young to drive there. It used to be a wonderful place, great good, great service, great management etc. I've been there 3 times in the last month and each and every time was a bad experience. The food is nowhere near where it was a couple years ago. Service? What service? Each visit we had a different member of the waitstaff, each aparently firm in their knowledge that you're there for their benefit. Price? HIGH. $35 before tip for a light lunch for 3 people. That was 1 salad, an appetizer and a bowl of soup with fries and 3 sodas. The bread of the day was horrible, when asked for something else in it's place, we were given 3 slices of sandwhich bread AND CHARGED FOR THEM. Truly a disappointment to see a gem of a restaurant turn into that. more
