GREAT 8/13/2007

Tony's is by far the greatest steak one can get. I love steak, and I eat it everywhere. I have had a lot of good steaks from a lot of good restaurants, but none compare to the Tony's Pepperloin in garlic butter. I think my Heaven is going to include eating Tony's pepperloin steak. it is unbelievably delicious. Pros: great food especially the steak, great service, fair prices Cons: nothing more

The kings of a la carte! 4/19/2006

As a lifelong resident of the Alton area, I've been to Tony's more times than I can count. The food is typically above average; I've only been disappointed once or twice. However, the level of service provided can sometimes be a coin toss. The main problem with this place is the way they gouge the customer for every 'extra' thing you order. They hit you with charges for onions, mushrooms and sour cream. What's next, charging for lemons in the water??? Also, the tables are kind of close together, especially in the main dining room. On a nice night, ask to sit on the patio; very nice! Pros: steak, patio Cons: pricing more

steak review 10/25/2005

reading reviews of Alton's Tony's prompted me to join this forum. Rating the steaks at this restaurant ahead of StL Tony's (not 5 star, by the way) is absurd. Alton Tony's pepperloin can be very good, or very average. They do not seem to be consistent. Pros: price, decent wines, broad selection Cons: inconsistent, sporadic service more

not the same 6/22/2005

This used to be a good place to eat. Seems that the quality has slipped, but not the price. What other nice resturant does Alton have? Pros: parking, drinks, patio/sidewalk Cons: quality, crowded more

This restaurant is EXCELLENT!!!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food is great, service is great. My husband and I went here for Valentine's day. It was a great place to go. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Tony's!!!! (Try their pepperloin or the petite filet they are both a great choice!!) Pros: Inexpensive, good quality food, great parking & staff Cons: NONE, NONE, NONE more

its good 6/20/2004

The food was tasty and the prices fair. I would recommend the pepper loin and the beef kabob. Pros: good food, price, parking more

Great Pepper Steak 3/8/2004

Tony's has one of the best pepperloin's around. And their house dressing is wonderful too! Pros: Valet Parking, Service Cons: , Parking (if not valet more

This restaurant should be called ""Tony's of Alton"", so not to be confused with Tony's in St.Louis. Tony's of Alton doesn't look like much on the outside and just a restaurant on the inside BUT-- Are you there for the looks or the food? If it is for food, you've come to the right place. Both ""Southern"" & ""Northern"" Italian dishes are served and, I have yet to find something that is not great. The prices (Unlike ""Tony's of St.Louis"") are reasonible. I rate it a 8. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Free parking Cons: Ambience more

Save yourself the trip 5/26/2002

I fell for the trap - thinking this Tony's was THE 5-star restaurant. Instead I found an expensive second-rate steakhouse. The most frustrating part was driving 40 minutes from St. Louis for this ""special"" meal. Unless you have very low expectations, you will not be satisfied. Go to Morton's - or the REAL Tony's in St. Louis. Pros: Lots of food Cons: Large noisy room more

Denny's offers better steak! 5/25/2002

Lessons I have painfully learned: 1) This is NOT the 5-star Tony's of St. Louis (3-stars would be generous)!; (2) This is not an upscale restaurant - baseball hats and t-shirts fit right in; (3) Unless you live in downtown Alton, this place is not worth your effort - it is possible the worst steakhouse I have ever visited. Microwaved mozzarella sticks should have tipped us off. The ""seafood"" appetizers and lobster tails ($18) have not seen the sea in many months. My ""Pepperloin"" steak - their specialty - was actually cold (cooked the same day?). I have never left the majority of a surf and turf entre on my plate before ($40!), but I actually went to another restaurant afterwards to find something edible. Extremely disappointing and overly expensive. Luckily the whole experience was so bad that it was amusing. Pros: Free valet Cons: Alpo is better meat more
