Best

I grew up in Gastonia. Now I live in LA. Every time I come "home" to visit, a stop at Tony's is a must! Even my California family insists on it. No milkshake in the universe like ...

Worst

We heard about Tony's and we tried it. Being an ice cream fanatic I was disapointed.

Your tongue will be dancing with joy! 7/2/2008

I too have grown up with Tony's Ice Cream. It's absolutely the best! My favorite is the butter pecan shake.....YUM! A word of advice.....get a spoon! There are so many pecans in there, they'll stop up your straw! Pros: Most delicious ice cream you'll ever eat! Thumbs WAY up! Cons: ""May"" contain a few extra calories more

Bring the kids. A historic treasure only 20 mins from Charlotte. 6/14/2008

Okay, so the food line is to the right of the ice cream counter. And there's an ATM machine near the door, cash only folks. This is a true institution. There were several Tony's locations, but this is the last one to survive. They make all their own ice cream at the factory next door. Pros: Historic. Excellent Homemade Icecream. Huge Portions. Only 20 mins from Charlotte. Cons: Not enough seating. Not enough room in my tummy for the huge portions. more

best icecream 5/6/2008

i was born in gastonia nc and ever since i was little ive eaten tonys ice cream its the best in the south Pros: thumbs up Cons: no cons more

Hot Dogs Are Great...Fries not so great 5/2/2008

As a resident of Gastonia and the daughter of a BBQ man from Greensboro, I know a good hot dog and Tony's has a pretty good hot dog. Not as good as JW Nuckles from Greensboro, but fair. Have tried their Ice Cream and don't see the big deal. West End in Greensboro tops them all. As for Tony's, beware of their French Fries, as either their oil is low quality or they don't change it very often....otherwise Hot Dogs are decent. Pros: Good Hot Dogs, Lemon ice cream Cons: Nasty French Fries...bad grease more

Nostalga more than quality 7/28/2006

One of the nicest reasons for living in Gaston County! Tony's Ice Cream has been a sweet treat since 1915. Nothing better than getting a hot dog ""all the way"" and topping it off with one of Tony's huge banana splits. Unless you are a revenous teen, better plan on splitting this with your wife or favorite other. Try their Black Cherry, Banana and Black Walnut flavors !!! Pros: Terrific Ice Cream, Nostalgic venue more

Tony's Ice Cream - A Family Tradition 6/6/2005

When I was growing up in Gastonia, one of my favorite things to do was go to Tony's with my grandpa. He would mention the word ""Tony's"" to any of his 30 grandchildren and all eyes instantly lit up and everyone was ready to jump in the car and go! The ice cream is better than any others that I have ever tasted in my entire life. Now, when I have the chance, I continue my grandpa's tradition with the children in my family by taking them to Tony's. I understand why he took us so many times. Seeing the expressions of excitement and the children's eyes light up when I say ""Tony's"" is priceless. Pros: Inexpensive, High Quality, Fast Service Cons: Not Enough Parking, Crowded, Small Tables more

Tony's not so great 5/23/2005

What's all the fuss? it's low cost, cheap in quality ice cream. Much better products and service and much nicer places are available in Gastonia. Tony's is ok, but it's not to die for. Pros: location Cons: product not good, hours, parking more

Great Ice Cream a Gastonia Legend 3/18/2003

This is hands down the best ice cream around. Not too sweet and not too heavy just right for one of those hot summer days. more

good as Mom's 1/13/2003

Tony's has always made their own ice cream...I went there when I was a child...favorite is 'black cherry milkshake'. They make the best and most original milkshake around. Also, the grill is excellent. Always top health ratings...due to the management of one; Janie! If you get a shake order with NO LID. Pros: hearty portions, quick service, hometown atmoshere more

smooth 11/11/2002

Tony's Ice Cream has been a consitant product for over 50 years and quality is a trademark for their products. I would recomment the Grape Ice Cream either as a cone or milkshake. more

Too Much!!!! 11/11/2002

Personall, I love Tony's Ice Cream. They have the best shakes around, but be ready to share it with someone. They are huge, and every bit worth the price. I go for the regular old vanilla. The food is also great if you are in the mood for an old fashioned hamburger and french fries. Pros: Great Ice Cream Cons: Crowded, Not Enough Seating, Payment Options more

A Gastonia Landmark 9/1/2002

Tony's Ice cream is truly a place to have authentic home made ice cream. The milkshakes are something that you have to try, to understand how delicious they really are. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food Cons: Not enough parking more

very best 8/17/2002

Tony's ice cream is the very best ice cream any where more

Tony's rocks! 8/13/2002

Tony's Ice Cream is absolutely the best anywhere. Certainly try the Chocolate or Black Walnut milkshakes. To die for. Also, the Banana Split is quite tasty as well. Either will quench your craving for the best ice cream in the southeast. more

""Ben and Jerry's needn't worry""??? 8/8/2002

Tony's is beyond an ice cream store, nay, it is the sheer matter of myth. Milkshakes of epic proportions abound in a land of red vinyl ruled by an old woman that has worked there for probably 50 years. For we Gastonian's we are proud to introduce any willing Yankee to a true Southern treat. If you really want a treat, get a Livermush sandwich, you will be thanking Tony's for existing for the rest of your life. Now, Ben and Jerry's it ain't, and its all the better for being so. Pros: Um, its Tonys. Cons: On Franklin Blvd. more

Best Ice cream 8/8/2002

I think Tony's has Ben and Jerry's beat! They have the best homemade ice cream I've ever had! If you have a sweet tooth, you should definitely check it out. Try the grape--it's my favorite. more

Cool place for kids 7/25/2002

I love tonys Ice cream it reminds me of how my meemaw use to live back in the old days more

Ben and Jerry's needn't worry 5/26/2002

Having heard about this place as Gastonia's answer to Ben and Jerry's, it was with salivating anticipation that we made the treck to Tony's. Well, the shakes with a scoop of ice cream may be great (we didn't have one), but the ice cream itself is quite ordinary. Clearly, the high butterfat revolution in ice cream has bypassed Gastonia, sad for me, but a misfortune which is probably good for the health of the local populace. Even my 7 year old daughter (whose personal taste buds are generally alligned in inverse correlation to food quality) said, ""This chocolate ice cream isn't very chocolatey."" more
