The worst place ever--STAY AWAY 10/26/2010

Please stay away. Dirty, I am not sure why this place is still open. I left with the worst infection. It took me so much money to fix it. Whatever you do please do not get a root canal from them. There are other reasonably priced dentists!!!! more

Please STAY away 10/26/2010

This was MY WORST experience ever. Please stay away from them. Very dirty. I had an infection, a very serious one. When I returned they said that it was not their fault. I had to spend so much money just fixing what they did. I want to take legal action against them. They are really really really bad and dirty. It is a smelly place. I don't even know if they clean their material. I do have the papers that document the serious infection that resulted from their work. Very dirty, very immoral, and they take advantage of people from a certain economic background who think that they are getting a cheap care. But things do add up, particularly if it results in very painful and costly infections. Please post if you know whom one should call for formal complaints. Is there a dental board or something? Thank you and please stay away. more

Terrible service! 8/20/2010

I have been a customer of Tompkins Dental for years. About 4 years ago I had to get a few root canals there and it was very professional everyone was nice and polite, I was treated by a younger Middle Eastern man and he did very nice work. Also when I first started using tompkins dental Doctor Singh was actually actively working on patients. After I got the root canals I needed I stopped going to the dentist, and I got free cleanings through the Tioga County dental van. Two years ago I had to go back to them for another root canal, and their doctors did a very good job, and they also pushed to get my root canal approved by insurance. In the past 6-8 months I have been going back constantly to get some fillings, and my routine exam. Recently is when I have been having to most problems with this dental firm. I went in for my exam and cleaning. The Hygienist did a nice job, but the doctor who performed my examination said I had one more cavity to fill and three more rootcanals. I made my appointment for my last filling the following week, while I was waiting for my insurance to approve or deny my root canals. I went in for my filling she, the doctor who spoke broken english and kept getting frustrated while drilling my cavity, barely used any Novacaine. I could feel her drilling and I said something to her, she gave me this dumbfounded look and put some more in my gums. When she filled it with the plastic fillings, she had to keep drilling it out and putting more in. When she went to ""buff"" the filling smooth she just used her regular drill bit, and took most of the filling out! It was rough and sharp and it left a gap between both sides of my molar. About a month ago, I had to have three teeth pulled there b/c they were not salvagable, and the doctor who pulled them noticed I had two more cavities, that had obviously been there for months. He had to re examine my mouth to make sure those were the only cavities she missed, and he even asked me who did my exam. The doctor was really shocked on how poor this woman did her job. After he pulled my teeth he made me get an appointment to get the last two teeth filled. When I went in I got the same doctor who did my last one. These fillings were surface fillings, one on a front tooth and one on my canine. She once again ""buffed"" them with a drill bit and not the buff pad. When she was finished she left with out asking me how they felt in my mouth. The assistant had to hunt her down so she could buff them with the rubber buffer because these fillings were very rough. The doctor scuffed like it was an inconvenience to do her job rightn and she actually buffed them right for once. Today August 12th 2010 I had to make an appointment to get the first filling this incompetent woman had put in to get fixed b/c what little filling in the tooth had cracked and every time I eat anything it causes me great pain. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist on the phone sounded like she hated her job and was taking it out on me. She was rudeand when I asked if there was a later time I could come in she spoke back in a rude manor, making me feel like I had to take this appointment at the same time I have a meeting. I used to enjoy going to see Doctor Singh or Doctor Stahl, but now every time I go in they're busy and I get the incompetent woman who talks down to me and has a problem with doing her job right! I do not like calling to get an appointment and feeling like I'm the one who has to cancel an important business meeting to get in so they can fix what they did wrong. After they fix this broken filling I'm never going back to them. more

DO NOT GO THERE 3/20/2010

I got white fillings there and 2 days later one filling came out. I went back and it was redone the same week and then came out again 2 days later! That is, a filling failed twice in 10 days. On my second visit a different doc not only filled a cavity from the failed filling, but redid the other filling (put by his colleague 5 days before that) asking ""Who did these fillings?"". While I was in the chair, a disgruntled dude came in yelling that they did an unnecessary procedure on his wife, and that she couldn't sleep all night. Well, you get the picture. I was left waiting in the chair, while the docs were sorting things out with the angry guy. I will look for a competent dentist this time to have my filling redone again. Pros: accepted GHI Cons: Doctor works on several patients simultaneously more

Scary, shady place 8/9/2009

I strongly recommend against this place. Twice I've had fillings done here cause me pain for weeks afterwards, and twice I've told the dentists that I was experiencing pain while they were drilling and gotten only a cursory response, with nothing being done to alleviate the pain. There appear to be multiple doctors working there, but all the degrees and certificates on the walls are for one man, which I find suspicious. After filling a cavity, the dentists send you on your way without even giving you time to rinse your mouth out, leaving a large quantity of gritty filling pieces in your mouth. The whole place is operated like a production line, emphasizing speed over quality or health. Pros: Cheap Cons: Incompetant, unempathetic more

HORRIBLE, Worst Experience 6/20/2008

I went to Tompkins Dental to get dentures. I waited 1 1/2 weeks to get the first set after my teeth were pulled, reasonable length of time I believed and arranged for time off work. When they gave me the dentures I was horrified. The teeth were so large and BUCKTOOTHED, I couldn't even close my lips over them and all the edges cut my mouth, tongue to bleeding. They offered to do another set. I waited another MONTH, wearing a surgical mask every day to work (I work in a professional setting and could not appear toothless). After a full month of delays I was presented with another set of dentures that were also completely horrible. I went to Aspen Dental and within 3 days received beautiful, comfortable dentures. Tompkins did refund $999 to my insurance company, but with much rudeness and attitude. I could say more but only have space for a quick summary. Dr. Singh seemed nice and much of the staff seemed nice (prior to requesting a refund), which I guess is why I gave Tompkins a second chance, but I can get nice from family and friends; in a dental service I need competence. Pros: appointment scheduling Cons: no concern for level of pain, completely incompetent denture work, doesn't listen to concerns more

worst expience at a dental clinic ever 5/21/2008

I was shocked at the lack of concern for the level of pain i received. I repeatedly told the dentist, who then remarked that it was because I was perceiving pain and actually the local block had worked fine. I had to be held in the chair by the dental assistant as the pain was so bad. I would not recommend this dentist to my worst enemy and will never go there again. A truly terrible experience. Cons: lack of dental anaesthesia knowledge and ability more

Worst Dental Experience in my life 3/1/2008

My husband and I went to Tompkins Dental because it was close and scheduled us quickly for an appointment. We will never go again! When we arrived we saw that we were able to get an appointment because the office overbooked their schedule. We waited over an hour to be seen and we arrived at 8 AM with the first appointments! The office was not very clean, and the small cubicles where you're teeth are cleaned did not look hygenic! Pros: location Cons: service, cleanliness, staff, quality of work more

Rude and impersonal 9/20/2007

I went here for a regular teeth cleaning and x-rays. My appointment was scheduled for 11am and by the time I filled out the paper work it was 11:25 or so. BAD time to go! Everyone was rushing to get done for lunch hour! The dentist didn't even talk to me, he talked to his assitant like I wasn't even there and too ignorant to understand what he was saying. And the hygenist RUSHED through my cleaning!!! I was really surprised. She cleaned my teeth in record time and it really really hurt! I asked her a question and it was 11:58 so she didn't answer it in any type of depth. And the whole time I was there no one asked me if Ihad any concerns or questions, they barely talked to me. On top of the pain and lack of concern, I brought my 9 month old baby in with me, and I got the worse looks! It was as though I had broken a rule about bringing my child with me. Pros: location more
