Something for Everyone 4/25/2009

As a frequent, long-term patron of Tommy's, I can honestly say that it's one of my favorite restaurants in Cleveland. There truly is something for everyone on the menu. Personal favorites - always recommended to friends - include the French Onion Soup, Fries, & Shakes.\r \r This place is not cheap. It's not uncommon to walk out after a Saturday lunch for 2 with a 20 - 30 buck bill. Suffice to say, I think it's well worth it.\r \r My biggest gripe about Tommy's is the customer service...or lack thereof. From the moment you walk in, you're usually crushed by a wall of waiting customers frustrated with the haphazard registration and seating process. Regulars will usually help newbies find the dreaded list. The wait and service staff tend to operate in the zombie realm. The bottom line remains, I come here for the food....not the wait staff. Once seated, service is usually pretty fast and accurate.\r \r Tommy's is in a class of it's own. The menu is diverse and unique. If you've not tried it, make a point of going. Young, old, hip, punk, funky or whacked...the people in the dining room make the experience truly Tommy's and uniquely Coventry. Pros: Menu diversity, Unique Experience, Outside of the Box Cons: Service/Staff, Cost, Wait more

Tommy's: Not All It's Cracked Up To Be 4/23/2008

Tommys is a mixture of the good and the bad. Their milkshakes are fantastic and there are quite a few items on their menu that are worth trying no matter how strange they may seem. The service, however, can be really spotty. I've found much better service if I dine in yet when I get food to go, I've often found myself waiting for upwards of half an hour. The last time I was there, I left without my food out of pure frustration in trying to flag a girl down so I can eat. Back to the food...lots of it is delicious but often quite greasy and somewhat overpriced. This is not the place it used to be. Pros: A few neat menu items, milkshakes Cons: Terrible take-out service, greasy food more

Location saves this place 3/21/2007

I have been here quite a few times. When I didn't live in Cleveland, I would go to Coventry and Tommy's to eat and thought it was pretty good. Once you get used to it though, and have been to Coventry enough, and have eaten at other places, it just isn't as good anymore. I will agree that the fries and milkshakes are very good. As far as vegetarian food goes, nearly everything they have is average at best. And, please go to Aladdin's if you're looking for hummus, baba, falafel, etc. Their mediterranean food is plain aweful. Pros: Location. Good place to grab some food in between looking at records and toys. Milkshakes. Cons: Below average vegetarian food. more

Great Variety 3/3/2007

Overall, a huge menu with lots of great choices. The milkshakes and fries are probably the best in Cleveland. Try adding the homemade peanut butter in one. There's a huge variety of meat pies and vegetarians pies. The falafel in some is flavored well, but sometimes a little overdone. The hummus is good, but I personally like one with more garlic and other spices in it. Give Tommy's a try, there's bound to be something on there that you'll like, and if the menu items don't fit what you want, they're the best with special orders. The only problem can be a significant wait, but the milkshakes alone are worth it. Pros: Variety, Milkshakes, Huge Vegetarian menu if that's your thing Cons: Waiting, Better hummus is not too far away (Aladdin's, Mad Greek, Falafel Cafe) more

Best Milkshakes 12/15/2006

I second that review. The milkshakes are out of this world. I am a big fan of the salads and sandwiches too. They have one with peanut butter and cheese and veggies, I know if sounds weird, but seriously it's delicious. The only downside is that there is a long wait at meal times because it's so popular. If you plan ahead, you can just sign-in and then shop at Big Fun or Macs Backs Books until your table is ready. Pros: Great food, fun relaxed atmosphere Cons: Wait in line more

BEST MILKSHAKES, VEGE BURGERS, and HUGE SALADS 7/11/2005

I lived in the Cleveland area for a good amount of time, and Tommy's remains strong as one of my favorite restaurants in the whole city!!! Their vege burgers are to die for and the salads are always fresh and perfect...and of course well-named. The Haley is perfect!!! The milkshakes are hands down the best in ANY city. Pros: Great food, "Holistic" Place Cons: Wait large at times more

Great food. Unpredictable service. 6/13/2004

I have been to Tommy's a few times. I like the food. They have a diverse menu, which includes a wide variety of salads that always seem to be very fresh. The service, however, is unpredictable. I had a good waitress once. Every other time, the service was slow and rude. Pros: Fresh, Tasty more

i WANT to like this place. 2/15/2003

...and i do stop in for a milkshake in the summers, but yuck. it's a shame, since it's a neighborhood staple, that servers are allowed to mumble or be rude, and that the food (which tastes okay going down) should make me sick. literally, every time i eat there, i don't feel well (i think it's the grill grease). it's sad, because it's a pleasant place inside, convenient and clean. lots of people love it but...buyer beware. Pros: clean, cute inside, GREAT milkshakes Cons: greasy food, weird menu, poor service more

Vegetarian and GREAT BURGERS TOO 2/7/2003

Fun, friendly establishment with great vegetarian and non vegetarian fare. Very inexpensive and very fun menu to read. Great for kids and fun groups. Usually a wait for weekend breakfasts but lots of fun stuff to watch on the street while you wait...Coventry is a cool area of the East side. Pros: inexpensive, vegetarian, fun Cons: cold in non-smoking, parking, crowded more

Tommy's is #1 1/22/2003

I have been to many restaurants, but nome mach Tommy's quality. The food tastes great and is inexpensive. Their is a parking garage across the steet with meter parking which isn't a big deal. I recommend Tommy's to anyone. Also if you decide to go try the lemonade because its one of the best I have had. Pros: inexpensive, good food, casual enviornment Cons: crowded, worth thewait, needs more spicy food more

entertaingly different 11/3/2002

where""you gotta be kiddin' me"" is almost always followed by "" hey this is great !! "" . Good for herbavores, omnivores, and carnivores. Pros: never"pushed out", conveniantparking, attached bookstore Cons: bad wait @peak time, no free parking more

Good food, poor service 10/6/2002

Tommy's is located in a great spot and has great food, but unfortunately the service is very poor. I'll still eat there occasionally if I am shopping at Coventry. Whenever I do eat there or place a to-go order, particularly, the people behind the front counter walk around and ignore me when I am standing there waiting for service... and I wait, and wait, and wait. Finally, someone comes around and I place my order, but then when I come back to pick it up, I wait, and wait, and wait, since ""nobody"" sees me standing there. I think it is very rude, and the even though the food is great, this poor service always seems to happen. A good restaurant owner teachers their staff how to make good food and how to treat customers with the utmost respect. I'm still waiting for some prompt service. Pros: selection, taste, atmosphere Cons: rude women clerks, service more

veggie phobia 8/11/2002

Tommy's got me to try new things which I thought I would never do--It is a great place for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. Their french onion soup is the best!!!!!! more

thumbs up 8/8/2002

very good, clean, and of course----cheap. It has very clean bathrooms and nice waitresses. more

From a Distance 5/20/2002

No one ever said this place was vegan. I mean, you can get some vegan things, but the menu is mostly an amalgam of cheese sandwiches and salads. The one thing not to be missed is a shake. A mocha shake. Just like we used to share in high school. After so many fires, remodels and changes, it's still there. That says something. It oozes an old-Coventry aura. Bad servers and all, I hope Tommy's never closes. more

Coventry Classic 5/20/2002

Tommy's never, to my knowledge, had any pretension to being Vegan. Not that I care -- a non-veggie, I went there for great food, low prices, and the funky Coventry vibe -- and for those things, Tommy's is unbeatable. more
