I LIVE IN TOWN AND VISIT TOAST OFTEN! THE STAFF IS ALWAYS GREAT AND THE FOOD IS EVEN BETTER! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE GRAND MARNIER FRENCH TOAST! ITS DEEELICIOUS! Pros: YUMMY FOOD, RETRO-FUN ATMOSPHERE more

Toast delivers each and every time ...love this place!!!!! 12/6/2008

I don't know what got into this guy ...I have been eating at Toast for over five years and it is always clean and the food is great! As I read these reviews I am beginning to learn who the disgruntled ex employees are and who the real customers are...this guy sounds like the disgruntled version ....go spin your ugliness somewhere else its really cheesy....all potential Toast people plz realize this is some dude with a problem and give Toast a try ....i just love it Pros: just love this spot ....dont find this in detroit anywhere more

Bout time to share..... 10/3/2008

Beside the fact that the kitchen is disgusting, and they have several health violations, store food on the floor, have a borderline schizophrenic manic depressive owner(s) and that the food quality is terrible.... well, unless you mind having eggs that have not been stored at temp (look into the kitchen, and look where your tub of uncooked eggs sit. Next to the hot stove floating in a bucket of what was once, at 6:30am ice. rodent infestation in the back storage room, May I continue? \r Come sit here for an hour and still not see your food. (Loser high on cooks and a closet dwelling ""\r Saveyourself the upset belly, and go to fly trap, or Barts, or Emory. Or Sams Grille.\r Whats even better is when the one lady Ragan starts having her anxiety in front of customers. Or better yet, Bobblehead trying to pretend he contributes to the sess pool that is TOAST! wobble wobble bobble! more

What happened? 9/26/2008

I usually like toast, but just had a surprisingly horrible experience! My friend and I are both servers and pride ourselves on being pretty easy guests, but not today! First, although the soup tasted great, there was a hard white piece of something in it and it wasn't brought out before my meal. Then my friend's omelette was sitting in a puddle of water (tomatoes) and his toast was burnt. We sent that back and ordered a tuna sandwich instead. It took forever to make (my food was actually good and I was done eating by now). It was actually humorous that it came as this sopping wet tuna sandwich and the alfalfa sprouts were old. He couldn't even pick it up and eat it, because the pieces of soggy bread were falling off! Needless to say, we won't be back. I hope I don't get sick later. Pros: cute and stylish Cons: nasty! more

Great for French Toast, Minus 1 for Wait 4/12/2008

I've been to Toast for weekend brunch several times, though the wait after 11am is always very long. Once, I had to wait for about an hour to be seated. However, the food is always worth the wait. The French Toast items, particularly the Bourbon French Toast, are always delicious. If you want savory, make sure to order the cheesy grits as a side. The service is generally good, though the staff does not always do a good job seating parties strategically. For example, when in a party of four, I get a little annoyed when a party of two right ahead of us gets seated at a table that can comfortably fit four or five, thus creating more of a wait time for larger parties. In short, the food gets 5 stars, minus 1 for the long wait times. Pros: Sweet brunch items, yummy cheesy grits Cons: Wait time, especially for parties larger than 2 more

Good but I've had better 12/7/2007

My husband and I had to wait outside for 30 min. to get a table, when they sat us we looked around and enjoyed the wacky decor but weren't happy when we were asked to move to another table becuse they wanted to pack in as many people as they can at one time! Our food was good, average, but the menu offered different choices then most places. The coffee wasn't good and for a cup it cost around $2...for normal ground coffee - that is too much! Not to mention the washrooms are horrible! We are still on the fence about going back. Sorry :( Pros: nice little neighborhood spot Cons: food is good but expensive service is BAD more

ditto the nothing special 8/14/2007

Although the ambiance was nice (warm and kind of eclectic) and the service was pretty good, I was really disappointed with the taste of the food. The coffee required cream and sugar to be drinkable, and the huevos rancheros tasted as you'd expect in a bad midwestern breakfast spot - the ingredients tasted fresh and were prepared reasonably well, but what about good Mexican flavor? I had to dig around to find any verde sauce, and when I did I found it to be bland and didn't add much to the meal. I ended up having to douse the dish in Mexican hot sauce from a bottle, which resulted in a meal I could have made at home. I wish I could chalk this bland experience to lack of ethnic authenticity, but my partner's breakfast of eggs and sausage was a disappointment too. Pros: wasn't terrible Cons: wasn't great, either more

Nothing Special 6/13/2007

Nothing special. Service was so-so. For lunch, too much time waiting. Parking not good on bad weather days or for handicapped. Probably won't go back - too many good restaurants in the area. Pros: Unique Cons: Parking, wait, service more

Decent breakfast 9/6/2006

a bit pricey, have to wait around 20~30min after 10am\r but food is so great, egg benedict is a must try!!!\r \r it all worth it!!! more

terrific brunch spot 8/20/2006

Toast has excellent and creative food, good coffee, and a funky, fun ambience. I've been fortunate enough to not have to wait in line (8-9:30 am on weekdays), but I understand that on weekends and near lunchtime, the waiting line goes out the door. It's worth the wait. The service is generally good, the atmosphere is friendly, and the food is reasonably priced (especially since you get a lot of it - we usually take home leftovers for at least one more breakfast). Their cheezy grits are outstanding, and the cinnamon challah bread is worth the upcharge. I enjoy the Spicy Cali omelete, and the Breakfast Burrito and Huevos Rancheros are the favorite menu items of my meat-eating partner. Pros: great food, good coffee, funky ambience Cons: small restaurant, can be a long wait at peak hours more

The best breakfast food around! 6/7/2006

The wait at this place is almost always too long, but once you taste the food, you'll understand why. It's a comfy, funky little spot with great people watching, and even better omelettes, breakfast burritos, and french toast. There's plenty here for vegetarians, although you might want to avoid it if you don't eat eggs. The perfect place for a lazy morning when you want a hearty, tasty breakfast and a good cup of coffee. Pros: Great food, cool ambience, nice servers and good people watching Cons: Long wait more

Amazing 9/6/2005

best breakfast I have ever had. The service was amazing..you might wait a little while for a seat, but its a small place and worth every minute. The food is too good for words..try some toast!! Pros: food, service Cons: waiting more

My Favorite Breakfast Place 2/12/2005

The only thing wrong with ""Toast""..is how limited it is. The parking and the size of the establishment. So you may wait a while, especially on Sunday's for breakfast. But the food is AWESOME every time I go. I have not had any bad experiences. Even my hubby, who is notouriously picky and hard to please when it comes to food (so much so, that I usually just agree to eat wherever he wants to, so I'm not annoyed) TOTALLY loved this place the first time I convinced him to go. It is now our first choice for breakfast.\r The look is very kitsch and fun. The bright main wall has a display of various toasters, and how they have evolved through the years. A fitting display. But they also vary the art, and actually sell the art of the local artist that is currently being featured on their walls. I think that's cool.\r The food is amazing too.. I love there ever changing menu. The staples such as the Bacon & Gouda omelet and their breakfast burrito are just some of the ""Must Tries"". And then you have unique dishes that appear every now and again, like Key Lime French toast made with challah bread, Or there wonderfully sweet ""Sticky Buns waffles..that are drenched in caramel sauce, pecans and whipped cream. I'm also partial to there various versions of Eggs Benedict.like the delicious Blackstone Benny.my favorite being the version with the crab cakes.\r Toast is located in the very LGBT friendly area of Ferndale. The wait staff and the people who eat there reflect the wonderful , and friendly openness of the area.I do admit, I thought taking my very macho husband there would pose in issue with being able to enjoy one of my favorite places to eat..but the food and staff are so wonderful, that even he doesn't take issue with it. Which is amazing to me. You'll see many families of all kinds there, just enjoying a wonderful Sunday breakfast. I urge anyone to try it. Pros: Great Food, Great Service Cons: Limited Seating, Limited Parking more
