I never did get to meet the actual vet, only the assistants. There was no one on one relationship. It was the kind of place you go in and hope that your animal is being treated ok...

I Trust Timonium Animal Hospital 3/9/2012

I have been taking my pets to TAH since 2008, and I have never had a bad experience. I started going there when I adopted an older dog with a lot of issues. Everyone there was so helpful and caring, and my dog became a favorite of several staff members. They were all sensitive and supportive when we eventually had him put to sleep, and Dr. Howard was just wonderful from beginning to end. I am currently going to TAH with another dog, who is also old and having some significant health problems. He typically sees Dr. Gernhart, and I am impressed with her as well. I completely trust her judgment. Both of my dogs have been groomed there, too, and I am satisfied with Josie. Like some of the other reviewers, I agree that it's the little things: patience, a few kind words, a phone call after hours. All of the staff are friendly to us, and I will only go to another veterinary practice if we move too far away to go to this one! Thanks, TAH! You're the best! more

Great employees, bad owner 2/18/2012

I am writing this to bring to light the unfortunate situation that is taking place at Timonium Animal Hospital. Many of the people that work there have nothing but the best disposition toward each other, the animals they take care of, and the people bringing their animals for care. However, the owner of this practice treats her employees like second class citizens and does not give them the humane treatment they deserve. I hope for the very best for everyone that works there, but please, do not patronize this establishment any longer. The owner does not deserve to be the recepient of all of her employees' hard work. more

Caring - Empathetic - Incredible 11/27/2011

I have been going to Timonium Animal Hospital for 6 year. My 11 year old boxer was recently diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Gernhert in a very caring way presented my options to me. We chose to put my boxer down because we did not want her to suffer. The entire vet clinic was very supportive and empathetic during this extremely sad time. They allowed the process to occur on my time. At no time was I rushed in my decision, I actually waited 10 days. Once I did make the decision, I was able to stay with my pup during the process so she was not left alone. After, I was able to stay with my pup for as long as I needed say good-bye. A week later, they even sent a sympathy card to my house with my pups paw print on it. It was the nicest thing they could have done. I could really tell through the actions and words of everyone in the clinic, they understood how I felt and wanted to make this decision as easy as possible for me. I could not have had such a positive experience during such a difficult more

Do not use this vet! 9/25/2011

Did not take my concerns seriously and ultimately my pet had to be put to sleep because they were not concerned enough about my descriptions of problems to advise more diagnostics. Dr. Gernhart is cheery but some of the vets have terrible "bedside manners". Too many "cooks" here as well, leading to poor continuity of care. Desk staff are either burned out or rude. This place was ok 5-8 years ago but has gone downhill. Found a new vet and the difference is night and day. more

Wonderful Animal Hospital -- Review by a Long Time Client 3/19/2011

We have been taking our dogs to Timonium Animal Hospital for 15 years. Dr. Gernhart and her staff consistently provide top quality care in an extremely compassionate environment. We have had to visit her for a number of surgeries and for management of chronic conditions and have been extremely pleased. They are very accommodating and wait times are minimal. I can't recommend this vet practice highly enough. more

Try it! You'll like it! 3/11/2011

In a word: AWESOME. We've been going to TAH for eons with our dogs and cats. Dr. Gernhart and Dr. Howard are great diagnosticians, and the staff is very nice and helpful. Here's an example: We thought we were going to have to put our dog down because she was suffering with a crazy arthritis flare-up. The poor thing could hardly move, she wasn't eating, and she wimpered a lot. Dr. Gernhart tested for Lyme's, and she was right! After just few doses of doxycycline and some great pain meds, and our dog was as good as new. I highly recommend this practice. They're good at what they do, and they treat both owners and pets in a very caring way. more

Marylands Best 3/7/2011

My pets have been seeing Dr. Gernhart for almost 20yrs. I would not take them anywhere else. I have never met a more genuine, caring, compassionate person. She will recommend the best treatment for my pet, then Taylor it to my budget. The thing I like most is the straight forward honesty. No promises, just medical fact and her opinion on what her experience has shown. Then when the time must come to say good bye.. they handle me with dignity and compasion. more

great vets 3/6/2011

I Love Timonium Animal Hospital. I have two chow chows,Bigsley and Roxy who are both rescue dogs and I know for a fact that Dr. Gernhart has saved my Roxy's life at least twice. Everyone has been extremely helpful and friendly to me and my family. I could not have gone to a better veterinary hospital.I have even sent other people to them and they were equally as happy there. I have been taking my pets there for at least five years and hope to continue taking any future pets I may have to them for all there vet needs. Keep up the good work Timonium Animal Hospital. more

The Best Vet in Baltimore 3/5/2011

We wouldn't take our pets anywhere else. The vets and staff at Timonium Animal Hospital are knowledgeable, professional and caring, and honestly, if they could treat humans, we'd be their patients too. Two of our pets had significant health issues, and if it wasn't for Dr. Gernhart and the entire TAH family, we would not have had those wonderful animals with us as long as we did. They have cared for all of our girls as if they were their own, and have always given us a clear, honest assessment of whatever action should be taken. more

Wonderful loving care for my Lab 1/30/2011

I could not be more pleased with the care my dog, a female yellow lab, has received here. I travel quite a bit, so I board her frequently, sometimes for up to two weeks at a time. She's also been boarded here when recovering from surgery for torn ACLs in her rear legs. The surgeon has told me that her recovery has been much more rapid than normal, and I'm sure it's the result of the careful care she's received at TAH. \r \r The staff has been extraordinarily friendly to me and my dog, and I know my dog is treated with loving care. I have experience with several other animal hospitals in the area and TAH has been by far the best. The cost of care here is also quite reasonable, better in fact than the other animal hospitals I've experienced.\r \r Frankly, I'm miffed by the negative comments by others because they are so inconsistent with my quite extensive experience with TAH. more

Shame on you... 1/6/2011

I have to agree with the "shame on you" attitude. It is unfortunate that this establishment prefers to recommend unnecessary testing and procedures as the only plan of action. Then looks at you like you are a very bad pet owner when you think that may be out of line and not at all what you can spend! My animal was helped WITHOUT the very costly test I was told by TAH was the only "next" step in her treatment. And that they would be unable to help her otherwise. She actually was re-diagnosed and basically fixed with a little bit of medicine and a change in diet. It did not break the bank either! I wasted a lot of time and money and feel that I was given sub-par care for nothing! It took one office visit to a new vet to get my animal properly diagnosed and to come up with a plan to keep her healthy with meds and the right food. Turns out no other testing was necessary. So, was it a lack of education and knowledge on the part of the TAH doctor or was it just about charging as much money more

Avoid at all costs 7/4/2010

We took our cat to Timonium animal hospital because she was showing signs of being sick. Timonium Animal Hospital diagnosed our cat with a bladder infection and kidney failure. The prescribed three different medications saying that our cat could be treated very affordably and that treatment could extend her life for years. On our follow-up visit, the vet charged us for many unnecessary procedures ($80 just to take the cat's blood pressure) and gave us a ""shame on you"" attitude when we explained we were not financially able to absorb the costs of treatment. Our bill for a single month was over $1,000. Our cat died the month following despite the treatment and the vet's assurances that we could prolong her life. Cons: Extremely expensive, unnecessry procedures, no understanding more

Best Vet in Town 6/3/2010

If you have a problem with Timonium Animal Hospital it is not them it is YOU. You most likely are a problem at every business you visit. They could not be more professional. They explain all costs before they do anything. I have been a client for 8 years and never had a complaint . Dr.Gernhart is a rare find. Ten Stars !!!! more

Love it! 6/23/2009

I took my dog Simon to Timonium Animal Hospital after he was misdiagnosed / treated at another animal hospital in the area. Dr Gernhart (the owner) picked up on what his real problem was after one exam! He had been in and out of our previous animal hospital weekly. We wasted a lot of time and money with no results. Then we took him to Timonium and everything seemed to turn right around. Within a month we had our old dog back. I read some of the other reviews about money concerns and long waits. I have to say that I completely disagree. I do not think that medical care should be evaluated on price ? especially in this economy. I am sure that their costs have risen as much as everyone else?s. I never left the hospital feeling like I got ripped off. I only felt relieved because my dog was better. Medical care should be evaluated on the level of care that you receive and the level was extraordinary. I talked to Dr Gernahrt every day for 2 weeks. She never got annoyed and I called a lo more

Timonium Animal Hospital 6/23/2009

I absolutely love Timonium Animal Hospital. I have to disagree with what the other reviewers said about the prices. I transferred to Timonium Animal Hospital from Falls Road and their prices were much lower. I am on a very limited budget myself. Anytime that I have ever needed anything extensive done at Timonium they have given me a complete estimate and reviewed it with me. One time the estimate was a little more than I could spend. The Veterinarian and I reviewed the estimate line by line. She explained what ever test / procedure was for. She then prioritized everything on the estimate with me. We started with what she felt was most essential and everything worked out okay. They were completely sympathetic with me about my financial concerns and willing to help in any way possible. I think that more importantly than the financial concerns, is the level of care that I have received over the years at their hospital. When I walk in the front door the staff knows my name. They all know m more

Bill WAS Outrageous!! 5/30/2009

I agree. We brought our Pom in for an upset stomach and came away two and a half hours later with a diagnosis of "we're not sure" and a bill of almost $500!!. ($120 in meds) Geez, I would expect that from a Beverly Hills vet, but this is ridiculous. Our dog is now on the "Nature health plan" next time he gets sick.. more

OVERCHARGED! 1/19/2009

I have decided not to go back to this hospital. While I felt the level of care was adequate, I was quite unhappy with the bill. I mean, who isn't unhappy with a vet bill, but this was different. I took in my dog for diarrhea and walked out $600 poorer...they wanted a full set of xrays, full blood workup, and iv fluids. I agreed with one xray, certain lab tests but not all, and iv fluids. They sent her home the first night with three prescriptions. She went back the next morning to get checked, and they felt she was still dehydrated, so I left her for the day to receive fluids. I was charged another office visit, which is one thing, but the thing that really made me angry was that the bill was $40 more than the estimate--because we are on a fixed budget with a baby on the way, our budget is extremely important. Examining the bill showed me that they had added almost $100 in charges for the SAME MEDICINES THEY HAD SOLD US THE NIGHT BEFORE. Outrageous. All we had to do was give h more

Pretty good place 6/20/2008

I was overall happy with my experience at TAH. However, there is one vet there (I think their newest) who I would not recommend. I really didn't feel comfortable with her level of care and ability. Otherwise, the everything else was good. more
