Deceptive 2/18/2010

My 75 year old fathers car runs but needs more work so was in the market for another car but could only afford $5000. Owner Rafael told him he had a really nice 2005 Buick he would sell him and was telling him how great it looks and runs. He could not view because it was being repaired and inspected but my father asked if it was as nice as one parked out front and Rafael said it was even nicer. My father was so excited and without doing a CarFax or close inspection bought the car around 4pm. Later that evening we noticed cement on both sides, dash finish removed, filthy seats and belts, no silver cover (just a hole) to put key in and James said wouldn't start so had fixed and key made and does not work on trunk, other items such as damaged window tint on 3 windows and just very rough and abused and worried did not get oil changes. Next early morning went to discuss and request money back but Rafael would not come into the shop. James was surprised to see all the damages but said it was up to Rafael to give us our money back. We were told he would be in at 2pm but he stayed away all day and would not return my fathers call. His son and James said he was avoiding my father. I returned with my father at 3:30pm and his son had the tags and license plate. He was avoiding us in order to do this and not return the money. We really don't want any trouble but could not believe he is so hard up and cruel to deceive someone on a fixed income of social security. James said they would sand and repaint cement damage and put new seat belts and see what else they could repair but my dad who has taken his car there several times, does not trust them anymore and will never return. more

Quick, Courteous and Honest 11/17/2009

These folks are very quick, courteous and honest. Our Explorer broke down around 4:30pm. The tow truck got our vehicle to 3 Points around 5:45pm. Eventhough they close at 6pm, the manager gathered all of our information and put a technician on the vehicle first thing the next morning. When all was said and done, the repairs costs us $155. Note that another auto repair shop in Pflugerville was going to charge us approx. $600 for the same repair. I highly recommend these folks. more

SHADY BUSINESS PEOPLE 11/12/2009

I used to be their customer for years. They will always smile at you and treat you well UNTIL something goes wrong-- my car was stolen and totaled from this place (they left the keys in my car to boot!) and then refused to take responsibility for anything! originally said they would at least pay my deductible and then refused when they found out it was $1000. They have lied and scurried around trying to save their own butts and its revolting. Now it's more than a year later and without even so much as an apology we are waiting for a court date. STEER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS!! more

Have the old mechanic work on your car 7/9/2009

I live about 20 miles from Pflugerville, but some very good friends advised me to take my pickup truck to 3 Points & told me to make sure the older mechanic did the work if it had anything to do with the engine or a/c - under the hood, in other words. I'm glad I did & now I wish I had known of this guy before. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars, but I do know there are all sorts of reasons for the 'check engine' light to come on. In the past, I had the unhappy experience of first being told 'this' sensor needed to be replaced, only to find out that replacing it didn't fix the problem. Then you get told that a different sensor needed to be replaced. I want a mechanic who doesn't just throw parts around, replacing this one & that one & another one, figuring that somewhere in there, one of them will be the solution to the problem. Jim (not to be confused with James, who is the guy up at the office) told me in language I could understand what needed to be done & why. No slam on James, but I want to talk to the person who actually DOES the work. Too many other shops try to convince you that all sorts of things have to be done immediately. Jim will tell you what must be done now, what can wait a little while & what to plan for in the next few weeks & months. Times are tough, so I especially appreciate help in figuring how to properly budget for repair & maintenance, since I won't be getting a new truck anytime soon. You might be a female like me with not a lot of savvy when it comes to car repairs, or you may know all about that sort of thing - but either way, we ALL want an honest mechanic & that is exactly what I have found in the old, grey-haired guy named Jim at 3 Points. I know there is another guy there, who is younger, but I don't know anything about his work, so I can't say how he might be. more

Stumped on easy ground 1/8/2009

Took my car because the engine light was on. They recommended $1400 worth of repairs including driver belts, EGR etc. Pick up the car and it has now a problem with 3 motor mounts busted. And the engine light comes back on. They claim age did that to the motor mounts! only it did it to 3 mounts simultaneously while at their shop! They would not fix it. Took it to another mechanic who fixed the problems. The EGR did not need replaced, just cleaned (engine light gone now). He said the motor was probably forced out of place to put the belts. James argued with me and would not take care of it. Sour end to an otherwise good business relationship. Don't go there. more

Great job every time 6/1/2007

I've been going to Three Points for years. They do a great job of keeping my ten-year-old car running, have always been honest with me, and have never treated me in a patronizing way (which is a problem I've run into many times at other places). And if I have have to drop my car off myself, they'll find someone to give me a ride home. Great job, James! more

What a deal! 8/19/2005

I recently ran into some car problems; my car decided to break down on the way to work. The first place I took my car charged me $90 to tell me that they couldn't fix the problem and that to fix what was wrong would run $500-$600. I stopped by three points and they told me that it would only cost $200 to fix my car. They did a great job for about half the cost. Three points is your basic neighborhood auto shop. It's bare bones on the inside, but they do great work. more
