Thornwood Vet is EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT!!! We have been using Thornwood as our vet for 10 year with nothing but kudos for everyone from the receptionist, assistants, volunteers and veterinarians Leali & Knopp. The physical and emotional care provided to our Maxie has been exceptional. We had used 2 vets previously and kept searching until we heard of Thornwood. What a blessing they have been...knowing we have a group of people who truly cared first and foremost for our animals health and welfare. Once, when my sister was visting from New York, they graciously cared for Sparky when he was hurt even though they did not have hands on history....they knew the dog was in pain and their priority was to do what it took to make him comfortable. Thank you all for the love and care you provided as if Maxie was your own!! You all rate 5 stars!! Dale, Pam & Maxie! more

Thornwood Vet is Great! 4/9/2012

I also looked for the phone number for this vet and was surprised to see the bad review. I have been taking my dog there only a few years but have been taking my friends for 8 years. There have been a few times I have had to cancel my appt. just a few hours before and they have never given me a problem or attitude. All customer service (as i am in the industry) have bad days but the staff at Thornwood has always been very kind and understanding. My friends dog was diagnosed with cancer and we called a couple times a day with question after question even after the vet had talked to us and they patiently listened and brought the question to the vet everytime if they couldnt answer themselves.I hate when a business is put down from one unhappy customer and I felt the need to defend Thornwood Vet Clinic because they have always shown me the most upmost respect and my friends family has been going there for years and my inlaws also brought their multiple animals there over the years. So the statement Dr Leali made about generations of the same client is indeed true. more

A TRULY WONDERFUL VET CLINIC! 1/5/2012

Today as I googled to easily find the phone number to Thornwood Vet, I was so sad to see the total misrepresentation of this office in the negative review below. I have been taking my dogs to this clinic for many years and have only had fabulous service and interaction with the staff. Every time I call for either a regular appt or illness, they ALWAYS get me in that day or the next day. The staff are always pleasant and treat my dogs by name as if they see them all the time even if they don't. When they stay at the kennel, they always have come home healthy and happy. I sometimes just show up if I happen to have the dogs in the car and I think they could use a nail trim and the staff have always cheerfully fit them in at that time even without an appointment!! And to show just how nice they are, they have Never even once complained when out of convience, I had the dogs get their annual exams at another vet office and then continued to bring the dogs here - the fact that they let me ""straddle"" two offices without complaint is TOTALLY AMAZING! This is by far a FABULOUS office and I would not hesitate to tell everyone to bring their dogs here! more

Explanation 4/29/2011

As the practice manager at Thornwood Veterinary Clinic & Kennel, I am very sorry the client feels she had a poor experience at our facility. The client brought her dog to us on 2/7/11 after being referred by the Animal Emergency Clinic. We concurred with the diagnosis of a torn cruciate ligament. It is true we were booked for surgery and could not perform surgery until 2/15/11. It was explained the injury was not life threatening and waiting 8 days would not have a negative impact on recovery. It is true that we quoted $1,500 - $1,800 for the procedure, a typical fee for a rather complex and difficult surgery. It is also true that we did not prescribe any pain medications. The Animal Emergency Hospital already prescribed an anti-inflammatory and pain medication for approximately 12 days, within the window of time before the surgery. We called and confirmed the appointment on 2/14/11. On 2/15/11, the morning was blocked out for the surgery. A Veterinarian and a Licensed Veterinary Technician stood by between 8:00 and 8:30AM. At 9:00AM, we called the client. We were unable to speak with her, but were told she was on her way. We explained there is a $75 fee when a surgical appointment is a no-show. We did not cancel the appointment. The client never arrived. Our mailings to the client were returned to us by the post office. Based on this we were forced to turn the account over to our collections agency. Thornwood Veterinary Clinic has been in business here in Cascade for nearly 40 years. We have generations of satisfied clients, and it pains us when we encounter a client we cannot satisfy with what has been proven to be compassionate, professional and cost effective pet care. I am sorry I had to post this response as a new post. ?Responses are limited, and I could not completely respond to the review in less than 500 characters. If there are any questions about our clinic, please feel free to call us at 616-676-1251. Keith A. Leali more

Some NERVE! 4/2/2011

My dogs are very important to me, as it should be to any pet owner. The arrogance displayed by these people is profound. NOT only did they leave my dog in pain for a week with no pain medication they waited to do surgery on his leg for another week. Not only that their receptionists are extraordinarily rude and need to learn phone etiquette. I was driving and running 5minutes late so my friend called to notify them, they decided it was appropriate to yell at her over the phone. Then the Doctor is SOOOO busy he can't help anyone for over a two weeks and when he does finally see you he is extremely rude and condescending. They over charge people by an astounding amount claiming that the simple surgery of repairing a torn ACL was going to cost between $1,500-1,800. Oh yeah if you are 5 minutes late for a 5 minute check up prepare for them to throw a temper tantrum, completely cancel your appointment (even though their next appointment isn't for another hour), not notify you that they expect you to pay $77 for the appointment they canceled, and then send it to a debt collector a month later. THIS IS A HORRIBLE VET! There are SOO many other more qualified vets out there in Grand Rapids! Don't walk RUN to one of them! more
