Best

Romantic!!! Great date night place or anniversary. The Seared Ahi Tuna and Filet were amazing. I think the patio room is the best area for dinner. Our server David was outstanding...

Worst

My husband and I had our 41st wedding anniversary dinner at the Vineyards. The ambiance was disappointing , mini Xmas lights hanging from the ceiling, expected a candle or a flowe...

Vineyards is Awesome for Dinner 8/8/2010

Vineyards was awesome! From the wine selection to the pairing with the foods and a fantastic creme dessert, it was top notch! Not only did all the food come out excellent, but I left full, happy and content. more

outstanding! 7/8/2010

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for a "milestone" birthday.I live in Miami, and know nothing about San Antonio,so I relied heavily on internet reviews. Pros: great food, great service, very charming Cons: none more

Great Valetines Dinner 2/15/2010

Excellent dinner and enjoyed the desert and dancing in the heated pavillion. Wait staff was very good. Pros: Ambiance and Food more

Best meal of 2010! 2/9/2010

What a charming place off the beaten path! It feels like a cross between the TX hill country and California when you're standing there looking at all the grapevines. We went with a group of 8 and everyone liked the food and loved the wine. Paula did a great job and was a real sweetheart. Next time we'll do something more intimate and maybe sit by the fire in the wine cellar. Pros: Great food & wine, beautiful setting Cons: Can't eat here every day! more

Great place to get away from the city and relax 12/21/2009

The atmosphere is relaxing and romantic. I enjoyed slowing down from our fast paced word. The food adds to the pampering with delicious flavor. And, I can not say enough for the wait staff. Alan, was our waiter. He went out of his way to make sure everything we needed was taken care of. I think The Vineyards is a place everyone should experience! Pros: The food is fantastic more

Our special occasion restaurant! 10/19/2009

We usually go the Vineyard on Thursday night, it's very quite and usually just a few seated along with us in the wine cellar. We always make reservation regardless of day. After dinner the waiter escorted us outside to pre-set table to enjoy dessert and coffee, the sunset was perfect . Highly recommend the Vineyards and reservations. Returning customers since 1999. Pros: Consistant meals every time more

Amazing for Romance or a Girl Night Out 9/7/2009

8 girls, lots of wine and great food! What more can you ask for. Alan our waiter was wonderful and the Chilean Sea Bass Special was sinful! Pros: The setting is amazing, quaint and original! more

Pathetic food, apathetic service 8/24/2009

This is not a Restaurant to go to as a couple. This was our 10th Anniversary and we were constantly overlooked for larger tables. Pros: Anticipation of fine dining? Cons: I think the title says it all. more

The Vineyards-Fantastic! 3/31/2009

The Vineyards restaurant has fantastic food for a reasonable price-the atmosphere and where it is located is so pretty and relaxing. The wait staff and owner were so attentive and it was just a wonderful dining experience. Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, great atmosphere Cons: None more

A perfect ending to our romantic weekend.... 3/2/2009

My husband and I went away for a romantic weekend away from the jobs, kids and everyday stresses. I have to say by far The Vineyards was the most romantic meal we had. The atmosphere, the service, the food, the wine, even the price...ahhh all perfect! We live 2 hours away but this is one of those places you plan to travel to just for the meal. We were researching our options for the "Most romantic place on the river" to eat and decided that walking would be easier so after comparing several recommendations decided else where. BIG mistake! My husband surprised me with lunch on the way home at The Vineyards the next day...well worth it. It?s one of those places that?s the first thing you talk about and can?t wait to share with others when they ask, ?How was your trip?? Pros: Ambience, food, price, service.... Cons: none more

Best Romantic Dining in Hill Country 7/14/2008

Last night I took my girlfriend out to eat at the Vineyards. I had called the owner,Bill, a few weeks ahead of time to make reservations. I told him i was going to purpose and wanted it to be a special night. He suggested a package to me called a "Vineyards Table". My girlrfriend and I arrived then ate our dinner in the wine cellar. After we finished our main course our waiter took our dessert order and brought us outside to a table in the middle of the vineyard. Outside there was a bottle of champaigne, a beautiful flower arrangement and our desserts. It was the most romantic setting I could have imagained. I want to thank Bill and his staff for exceeding all of my expectations and also I would like to thank chef Colby Briggs for the outstanding food. My fiance and i will definately be back time and again. Pros: Helpful staff and amazing atmospere Cons: absolutely none more

Wonderful Special Ocassion Restaurant!!! 6/17/2008

My wife and I recently celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. We were recomended the Vineyards by a friend of ours who had nothing but good things to say. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find this little slice of romantic paradise so close to the city. As you walk in through the front door you catch a glimpse of the beautifully landscaped vineyard through the back patio.(I highly reccomend walking around outide before you leave) more

Avoid for special oocasions or if you like conversation with your dinner party 5/10/2008

We selected the Vineyards for a special occasion with 6 people. When we arrived our table was ready and we were seated immediately. The waitress was efficient and we took a peek at the vineyards and outdoors while waiting for our appetizers. Next to us was a group of 8 who apparently were out in public for the first time. They were loud, boisterous, obnoxious, etc.The typical people who give Americans abroad a bad name, so you get the picture. They were so loud, it was hard for us to have our own conversation. Pros: nice location, away from the busy city more

Most Romantic place in San Antonio! 4/22/2008

Excellent service, and the food was amazing. My husband took me there for our anniversary and we did the candlelit table in the vineyard for dessert with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and this awesome warm chocolate cake - YUM! The prices were actually cheaper than some other nice places we've been, like Ruth Chris, etc., because you don't have to order everything ala carte. I really liked the wine list, because it's not 30 pages long and our server ended up suggesting an amazing Cab. I had the Chilean Sea Bass (it's not always available), and it just melted in my mouth. My husband had steak and said it was the most tender and juicy he could ever remember having. Their roses are blooming and you can see the little grapes starting to grow on all the vines, really pretty. It's about 15 north of 1604/281, but absolutely worth the drive. Plus, since you can park in front of the building, it's probably faster to get in and out of than a downtown place. Highly recommended! Pros: Very romantic, friendly & professional service, amazing food Cons: None! more

Would go again, however, it is not my #1 choice 8/31/2007

My wife & I celebrated our 7yr anniv by having dinner there this Aug 07...You must call & make reservations which is not a bad thing (last reservations are @ 8:30)...I choose this place because of other reviews and city search had it at #1 most romantic and steak place to go...It is a little out of the way but that is what makes this place special...once you get there it is nestled in the hill country with beautiful scenes...The wait staff was very polite and quick on their toes...Some things that did not make the night like I wanted it was the fact that we were trying to have a romantic dinner and we were seated next to a huge party of woment that were loud and abnoxious (that really broke the romantic evenning i was going for)...The wait staff was polite in saying that they understood, however, there were numerous gatherings going on throughout the establishments and there really was not a place that was quite....I would recommend putting big parties in one place or leave a section where it is quite and romantic for those that choose the place based on it being the #1 romantic dining experience...The prices were not that bad, however, you really don't get a big portion, so choose carefully...We had the fillet, it was good, but I would not say great...We also had the mushrooms and they were good but I have had better...I got the package that included a private table for desert in the vineyard w/a floral arrangement; that was perfect to the T (i think we should have just had our whole meal in the vineyard it was quite, romantic and the weather was not that bad, not to mention hardley any insects bothering us)...Overall, I would recommend people to try this place however, I would not rate it as my #1...I may give it another try but not anytime soon...Again the wait staff was #1 and the establishment itself was romantic, just the big parties and small portions of food did not live up to my expectations... Pros: beautiful area, excellent waitstaff Cons: put big parties together and leave an area for couples trying to have a romantic evenning, make portions of plates a little bigger more

Charming hill country hideaway is here to stay! 7/11/2007

This place is an absolute diamond in the rough! The first time my wife and I went to the Vineyards we were absolutely impressed with the location, professional but not stuffy service, and of course one the absolute best filets I have ever had. This place has the whole package and you leave feeling like you had a very unique and special dinning experience. Pros: Location, food, service, wine. more

Absolutely wonderful!! 2/14/2007

This place has exceptional food! The best ceasar salad I've ever had. I got the recipe and am trying it tomorrow. So romantic, and a beautiful place. It made our Valentine's day all I had hoped for and more. Pros: Awesome food, beautiful place and very romantic. Cons: A little pricy, best for special occasions. more

A great experience all the way around 1/24/2007

Visiting in San Antonio from Denver and looking for non-chain restaraunt. The City Search gave great recent reviews on The Vineyards and they were RIGHT ON! Pros: Everything Cons: We didn't experience it, but I bet they getcrowded on Friday nights. more

Fine dining in a country setting 1/6/2007

Our first visit to The Vinyards was a very pleasant experience. Arriving early for our reservations we were greeted with the wine list. The wait staff recommendations of beef tenderloin and prime rib were of high quality and cooked perfectly. The corn chowder was exceptional. Our second floor window table afforded a nice view of the vineyard. We had no complaints and the prices matched the experience. The wait staff understood the menu and explained everything well. Only 20 minutes from I-410E. We'll go back. Pros: Ambiance Cons: None more

Birthday Disappointment 11/27/2006

The first lunch at the Vineyards came with poor service and a mixup by the waitress on the price of a bottle of bubbly. We decided to give it one more try, hoping that this would be a memorable meal for my wife's mother's birthday. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The service was again poor. After ordering a selection recommended by the waiter...we waited. About the time that we felt that the food should be being served, the waiter approached us and said they were out of the recommended selection. We asked for the menus again to make an alternate selection. The we noticed that the prices were higher than when we originally ordered. We asked the waiter and he said we must have gotten a hold of some old menus the first time. Throughout the process, no apology was ever extended by the waiter or staff. When the order came, all I remember is the meat was very tough and not even warm. As for the wine, as expensive as it was, they only filled the glass 1/3 full. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and won't be returning. Oh...and I took the time to contact the owner by email on their website and describe our experience. We never even received an acknowledgment of our complaint...much less an apology. This restaurant has great ambiance and should provide service and food much more in line with the prices charged. Pros: great view in the country Cons: poor service, food quality more
