The Village Dentist - Vanhook

My experience with Dr VanHook and all of his staff was nothing but pleasent. They expressed genuine intrest in me and the health of my mouth. I felt comfotable and confident with my exam. They were very understanding about my concern for costs, and they came up with a plan that works for me based on what I can afford. I felt like apart of the family. The teeth cleaning instruments they use were awesome too. There was no scratching or other disturbing noises coming from the cleaning instruments. As far as the doctor goes, I have never been to a better dentist than Dr. Van Hook. He is gentle, empathetic, confident, and very knowledgeable. He not only has good rapport with his clients, he has good rapport with his staff which I feel is just as important. I had to get a fair amount of work done and he always made sure I was comfortable and always explained exactly what he was doing, even though I had been there so many times already. As far as the hygeinists go, I have had several great experiences but one not so great one. During my last cleaning however, the hygeinist( i dont know what her name was) that was doing it was very rough with me, jamming the floss and the tools into my gums, and when she was doing x-rays, I was trying to tell her i couldnt close my mouth all the way because the edge was digging into my gum and causing me pain, but she used her hands to push my mouth shut, which caused even more pain. My gums were still bleeding as I left the office and my mouth was sore for a few days. This was, however, the only time I have ever had a negative experience at the Village Dentist and it would never deter me from going there. Dr. Van Hook has a superb practice. Each and every hygenist is dutifully thorough but never harsh. If you dread the dentist because of sensitivity or pain or just a general uneasiness around all that equipment, this is the place you should try! The office is set in an old home in the ""new"" downtown Canton. The waiting area is filled with plush and comfortable seating and feels like the parlor of the old home. The patient areas are beautifully decorated and the music choice would put anyone at ease. The equipment is state-of-the-art and the whole staff is eager to explain all the things you can see right there on screen in your examination room. These are by far the most gentle and truly caring individuals formed together in super team of dental care. Dr. Van Hook has an eye for talent and they all demonstrate excellent technique and a level of customer service and care that makes you feel like family. Dr. Van Hook formerly ran a practice in Novi, where I grew up and was my dentist for years even though I live and work in the Ann Arbor area. When I got word he was selling his practice to be closer to home, I was devistated until I learned that meant closer to me!! Even the answering message when the office is closed contains Dr. Van Hook's home phone number in case there is a tooth emergency. I have no doubt that he is truly available whenever I need him and when it comes to something as important as my teeth, that's truly comforting. So if you're in the market for a new dentist, or even new to the area and looking to try someone reliable; give Dr. Van Hook's office a call and they'll be happy to assist you as soon as possible!!!
