Clean, Comfy, and Convenient 8/9/2011

We travel to Rochester at least once annually, and have never been ""burned"" by staying at the Kahler. Clean, comfortable, and convenient to Mayo. Not the fanciest, but a good value. more

Good Value 8/4/2011

Had the opportunity to visit Rochester and stayed in the Kahler Grand Hotel. There is a lot of history in this old girl. Rooms were average, but clean well kept. They have a nice restaurant, bar and martini lounge. Great location with a lot to do right in the neighborhood. Staff was friendly. We paid about $100 a night and thought it was a good value. more

Great Service! 8/2/2011

I have stayed at the Kahler Grand Hotel now three times in three years when I get my annual kidney transplant annual evaluation at May Clinic. The Kahler Grand is hospitable, convienient and centrally located for all my doctors' and clinics' appointments. Their staff and bellmen are caring and considerate very willing to assist me with getting to and from the hotel. I need their assistance because I use a wheelchair to get about. I recommend Kahler for any out of town guests needing affordable rooms with great service and good restaurants all in one location. more

Peaceful 7/14/2011

This is an old hotel that has been carefully refurbished and maintained. You barely hear the central air system running which is so peaceful. It is convenient to the Mayo Clinic w/o going outside. There are shops also accessible inside or outside. I have stayed there on three occasions and never had a bad experience. The restaurants are good and there is a variety to choose from. more

Perfect for me 7/12/2011

When I first saw the reviews here I was thinking that if I decided to stay here it would be specifically for the chance to see how bad it was for myself... a fun adventure. I was thinking that perhaps this wasn't such a smart idea as I arrived from a 10:30 pm flight and had a 6 am appointment the next day. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was perfectly suited to my needs. The location was beyond excellent if you are a patient at Mayo Clinic. The rooms were perfectly clean, comfy, and adequate, although the bathrooms are from the 70/80s and do have a hospital vibe. That said, I kind of liked the bathrooms....they had a unique retro vibe. Cool. And yes, the fridge and microwave were older, but they worked fine, no problems. The room overall was much nicer than I expected with 2 huge windows. The size was perfect for one person. I do suggest not taking a room that faces the courtyard area if you are a light sleeper. As long as you can afford to stay in any of the regular or deluxe (NOT economy) rooms, you should be OK. It was exactly what I was needing for a Mayo visit and I am more than happy to return. more

Pleasantly surprised 7/7/2011

I was traveling alone and chose to stay close to Mayo Clinic. Despite reading some bad reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by my nice lower-priced room. The staff was really helpful and the food was good at both restaurants inside of the hotel. The pool and exercise area was very nice even with the walk up the last flight of stairs. It was just so nice to be able to go back to my room between appointments. more

I'll return 7/6/2011

Attending Mayo Clinic, location is excellent. Nancy at front desk was extremely helpful and accommodating when I had to extend my stay at the last minute. Staff on the floors were extremely friendly and efficient. This will be the only hotel I'll return to when I visit Rochester! more

DO not stay anywhere else!! 6/30/2011

If going to the Kahler for the Mayo Clinic, do not stay anywhere else. You can be from your room to your appointment within 10 minutes within going out in the weather. I found the staff friendly and helpful, responding quickly to any needs. The economy queen room we stayed in was adequate and QUIET. The hotel is renovating the rooms, so I am sure they will be more modern at a future date. The breakfast buffet had a large variety including fresh raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. And the parking is free! more

Fast friendly service 6/28/2011

The good: Location Staff Room service-was able to cater to my severe food allergies and Celiac Disease, fast friendly service The building itself-nice historic venue, nice shops, nice to walk around and explore Clean-housekeeping was always calling to see if I needed anything if the DND sign was up, which I though was nice, but might annoy some people who are ill and trying to sleep. Computer facilities and office equipment on site. Pool and gym Laundry Decor-The hallways looked straight out the Stephen King's The Shining, but I like that sort of look. Very grand historic hotel indeed. Be sure to check out the book in your suite that outlines the history of the hotel more

Great location! 6/20/2011

Business travel to Mayo Clinic could not have been easier. Shuttle to and from airport straight to hotel; hotel was located near restaurants and mall. Great location! more

We will stay here again 6/15/2011

We have stayed here twice now and would definately recommend this hotel. It is vintage and has character, the staff were very friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. We stayed in a queen the first visit, our second visit we had a king bed and it is definately worth the extra money. Very dog friendly and quiet. We will stay here again when we return. more

Makes my stay at Mayo a relaxing experience 5/26/2011

I always stay at the Kahler Grand Hotel when traveling to Rochester. The proximity to Mayo Clinic along with the amenities and rooms for the price makes this a no brainer. more

Great stay! 5/18/2011

I stayed at the Kahler during Summer 2010, as being a patient at the Mayo Clinic. The front desk staff were extremely friendly/helpful. They had a fan that was available for use as I can't sleep without one. Although the cleanliness of the room was great, the location of this hotel is what makes it worth it. You can access the Mayo Clinic without stepping foot outside. (There is an underground hallway that takes you from the hotel to the Mayo Clinic.) There is also a place to eat as well as a Starbucks :) located in the main lobby. It is also within walking distance to numerous other great restaurants, a Barnes & Noble, and cute shops. In addition, a shuttle is available to come and bring you to the Mall of America. Like I said the cleanliness of the room isn't great however with the location of this hotel can't be beat! There is also a shuttle that picks you up and drops you off at the airport, which is very helpful. This is the only place I would stay if I was to be going to be going to the Mayo Clinic again. There are numerous other hotels you can stay at in the area, however none are as close to the Mayo Clinic and are nearly as convenient. In addition, there is a great fitness center located at the top floor with new workout machines, weights, and a pool. Plenty of vending machines with easy access too! more

Great choice! 5/12/2011

I feel this is the best option for lodging when going to the clinic. Convenient to get to appts and also using the subway and skyways to do shopping when waiting for other appts. Lots of great choices for dining also. I recommend the Grand Grill just off the lobby for a great buffet breakfast. Yes it is an older hotel, so rooms may be smaller than average, but it is quiet and comfortable beds make it easy to relax. I wouldn't stay any place else when going to Mayo. more

Great Staff 5/3/2011

The staff was very hospitable and the room was nice, everything that we needed. Was surprised to have a microwave and a refrigerator. more

Like Home 4/26/2011

We felt at home here. All our needs were met.We were steps from Mayo Clinic.Anyone complaining needs to realize the overall value of this place. We will stay here again, if we are in town. You can't expect perfection, even at a high dollar hotel. Staff were caring. We found the fact that they were renovating a good thing. At least they weren't just letting it run down.No chance of going hungry with great complimentary breakfast.,Center street cafe, Jimmy John's, and Caribou Cafe. Also connected to shopping, and all the shops at Mayo.We had a good visit, and will refer Kahler Inn and Suites! more

Great Hotel BUT... 2/7/2011

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there! more

Good location but really not a GEM! 11/17/2006

For someone going to Rochester for a job interview or for service at the Mayo clinic expect to pay a lot for a hotel if you want something decent. This hotel is supposed to be well-renowned and known for its Antique luxury appeal. It's not luxury at all. It needs a serious renovation. It looks worn and tattered. Go elsewhere. I had plumbing issues in my room, and there is an awful odor in the hallways and rooms. Pros: Location is downtown, Pool is decent Cons: Not posh for what you are paying! more
