Worst Customer Service Ever 4/18/2011

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. We were outside, told to go in. Told inside that if you want to sit down you had to go outside. Went outside, told to go in to get someone to seat us. Then we ordered inside and they said since we already ordered we weren't allowed to sit at their tables but we could sit at Starbucks next door. I'll be sitting at Starbucks from now on because I won't be going the the Steeping Room again. more

Lovely Treat 12/27/2010

If Paddington Bear and Sagwa went into business I believe they would come up with someplace whimsical and classy like this! The chicken salad even had non meateater sissy gobbling like a stray puppy! No Mayo??? Amaziiiing. The cucumber sandwiches a bit slimy.perhaps peeled cukes? The service was amazing. Better than the Waldorf!! All I can about the scones was crispy outside soft inside I almost started speaking the queens English and screaming more more!! Tea was made most proper according to my grandfather who grew up with high tea at 4. ..and enjoyed the clotted cream and the pound cake...The pumpkin brulee is rich you will need to share! A true tradition in this house is born. more

One of my favorite places to go and relax and have good food 11/18/2009

You have to have the Jasmine Gravlox sandwich! I'm addicted to it. Everything is good, except the chicken salad is average. They have a wide selection of teas that are wonderful. The scones are great and it's so hard to pass up the desserts! I love it when they have the mini cupcakes b/c you can have 2 or 3 and they are tiny so you don't feel like you are breaking your diet. The staff is also really great-the kind of people that are sincere and that remember you! I love the design of the restaurant-it makes for a soothing place to unwind. It's such a treat to go here. Pros: great staff, great food, relaxing environment Cons: none! more

Awesome teas and a Wonderful Staff! 2/2/2009

I had a wonderful experience at The Steeping Room. I've worked in coffee shops for 3 years, but hadn't been educated in the art of tea at all. Amy took the time to educate me on all the leaves, flavor notes, and the correct way to make a perfect cup of tea at home. Even when she was informed her lunch was ready, she continued to answer all of my novice questions. Amy was wonderful and I can't wait to return and experience more teas! Pros: Variety and great Staff Cons: Only in the Domain more

Amazing tea variety to go with delicious snacks. 10/12/2008

A good friend of mine made sure we stopped by here (twice, in fact!) during my first trip to the Domain. I was delighted by the casualness (but not to the point of being rude or anything) of the staff, not to mention their amazing knowledge of every tea they served (which is somewhere in the hundreds, I'm sure). The dining area is very small, which I imagine can be a pain during busy times, but we were seated immediately and waited on just as quickly. I ordered a small bowl of soup, another friend had a scone, while another had a cookie. All items were delicious, and all paired nicely with the teas we'd opted for. When we made our second stop by here on the way out, I picked u a few separate loose teas and have enjoyed those thoroughly, as well. This small place was absolutley charming, and I can't wait to make it back by there in a few weeks! Pros: Value (little more than $6 for an entite p0t of tea and cup of soup!), tastes & flavours Cons: None in Houston, but I think I'll live. more

Wow! What a treat! 6/25/2008

I've been going to The Steeping Room ever since it opened. Every visit is a gustatory delight--they constantly find things that are fresh, in season and full of flavor. The selection of teas are really impressive, only surpassed by their expertise. Flavors really pop! Everything, from dishes as simple as scones and clotted cream ( the best this side of London) to inventive pairings like the olive tapenade and goat cheese, surprise, delight and excite the palate. Love the salads, strata, and desserts. The owners are great at suggesting the perfect tea pairing with your meal. These people are real foodies and know their stuff. I love to sit outside and enjoy the passing scene and the best tea service I have ever had. Pros: Ambience, food, tea, central location in the Domain, service Cons: None! more

A Jewel of a Place for the healthy conscious or picky eater or if you just like eating! 2/19/2008

I've been to this place many, many times and I can't say enough good things about it. Located right next to the Starbucks at the Domain, this place reminds me a lot of the cute little restaurants in NYC. The place is small but clean with very minimalist decor with booths. On a nice weather day they have tables outside that you can sit at and enjoy watching the foot traffic. The staff is very polite and friendly and the owner/manager (an older gentleman with glasses) has always been there every time I went. Pros: everything! Cons: if there's anything, i would say the parking. more

Friendly place, super tarts and cakes. Try the chamomile almond cake (Gluten free!) 11/10/2007

This place if friendly, relaxing and has a fantastic selection of teas. The baked items are high quality and the selection changes with the season. The pumpkiin tart with spiced whipped cream was to die for. The German chocolate cake is amazing! Nice staff, this place fits well in Austin. I should know, I was born and raised here. Don't be intimidated by the swankiness of the Domain-the people here are warm and friendly. Pros: food, service Cons: parking on busy days more

Great snacks and tea drinks 8/12/2007

I have never tasted scones as good as those found at The Steeping Room. It seems like most of the crowd is there for various mixed drinks which include tea as opposed to the real thing, but it doesn't seem to have affected the quality of the products they deliver. Sandwiches are good, but unremarkable. I recommend going for teas and pastries for a relaxing date or meeting. Pros: Teas, Service, Desserts Cons: Not much more

delicious tea & salad 6/7/2007

When I first noticed The Steeping Room I assumed they just served tea, but to my surprise and delight, they have a huge menu full of vegetarian dishes. I ordered the coconut iced tea ($2) and field green salad ($7), which were both scrumptious, and I ate at one of their outside tables on a Friday evening. It's great for people-watching and nice with the view of the trees. I had two different servers and they were both attentive and friendly. I will definitely be going back...there are several other items on the menu I'd love to try! Pros: good vegetarian choices, multitude of tea choices, friendly service Cons: parking more

best international lunch and dinner in Austin! and more teas than you can shake a stick at 4/29/2007

This place is next to Starbuck's in the new shopping area called The Domain. It's a fabulous local business in the middle of a bunch of chain stores. It's a real find. I've been eating there regularly and the food is always incredibly fresh and fantastic and I'll never get through all the teas. Plus they have beers l like like Bootlegger and Fat Tire. I haven't had the wine yet but they have a list of that too. Best of all the have fresh baked good they make right there some teas in them which are fantastic. Pros: everything there is great Cons: it's not so visible next to Starbucks and the sign looks like sLeeping room but it's sTeeping room more

A fine new place for tea and light lunch 3/20/2007

I wasn't planning on stopping by The Domain when it opened, but when I heard that it included a locally-owned tea shop, I decided to give it a try. It's right next door to the Starbucks, and I'm still trying to decide whether that's ironic or genius. The decor looks more like West Elm than the typical kitschy British tearoom, but I for one like that. The tea menu is huge (4-5 pages), and their lunch menu has organic tea sandwiches, scones, cake, etc. more
