Just OK 1/7/2010

East coast pizza is to Yankees, what BBQ is to Texans. There are more disputes over the best than any other ethnic food I know. That said, and being a Yankee, the Onion pizza is just OK. The crust is a bit soggy, and there is too much cheese for my taste. The sauce melds into the cheese rather than having its own distinct layer and flavor. There is no oregeno on th pie and none to be found in the parlor, unheard of on the east coast. While visiting Austin I'll stick to the disputed best BBQ's and leave the pizza to home. more

Really great pizza! 4/12/2008

I am continually amazed and impressed by this small little place that competes with the likes of Roppolo's Pizza, the other pizzeria downtown bent on selling their gummy crust pizza on every corner of downtown when the touristas are out and about. The Onion reminds me of the cool, layed back Austin?s eateries of the past. Places you could go to for good food in a no nonsense atmosphere at a good price. Except for places like Thundercloud?s, The Omelettry and Kirby Lane Cafe, these places are all but gone from the Austin landscape. The place is an enigma to the back drop of an ever increasingly hostile yuppie atmosphere the downtown area seems to be turning into these days ? sigh. The pizza itself compares to the NYC pizza I survived on in the Big Apple for two years: really simple, relatively thin crust (compared to Ropplo?s) and always with fresh ingredients. This pizza is uniquely tasty for the Austin market. Pros: simple great food at a good price Cons: small place, but hey, you don't have to live there more

I've had a great pizza! 3/2/2008

I'm not a big pizza fan, but I loved this pizza! The sauce has a nice bite to it, and the crust is just the right thickness. A generous amount of cheese and other fresh toppings, nice crispy salad! I felt right at home, friendly folks. This is a regular stop for me when I'm in the area. Pros: tops in quality, unique Cons: couple of more barstools more

Pizza rolls. Gotta do the pizza rolls. 6/13/2007

Best downtown pizza-by-the-slice is right. Tasty! But here's what you gotta do: Call ahead, order some pizza rolls. You can get anything in them that they offer on their regular pies. I'm a meat-lover kinda gal, and let me tell you, pizza rolls meat-lover style here is a can't-miss meal. And two easily fill me up. Order the rolls, go hang at your favorite food-welcoming dive, and you just had the tastiest $10 meal for two downtown. At 1am no less. Bam. Pros: PIZZA ROLLS, friendly service, pizza rolls Cons: sketchy delivery times, not open late-night early in the week more

Best Late Night Pizza 4/27/2006

They serve the best late night pizza in the downtown area. Expect long lines after 2 PM but its definitely worth the wait. The Margarita Pizza is my personal favorite. Pros: Great Pizza Cons: Long Lines more
