The Old Granary Restaurant and Bar

Went to this place out in Fearrington because I had read good things recently. I had been here last year and it sucked, but what a great turnaround! They really have fixed the problems they had in the beginning. The food was great and the service was smooth. \r We will surely go back. Pros: great service, people watching, and the oreo cows are great for kids to see. Cons: none. more

We had been looking for a new restaurant to try in the area and decided to try the Old Granary since we had seen good comments about it in local magazines recently. We eat out as a family once a month, so this was going to be the place. Our family is quite hard to please, with a grouchy grandpa and little ones, too, so this place had it's work cut out. They delivered. The menu was broad enough to cover a little of everyone's taste, and all said that the meal was awesome. But the cool part was the restaurant and the staff. We have heard that Fearrington Village was snooty; I can say that we were treated as if we had been at someone's private home for the evening. I do not normally write comments on things like eating establishments, but this deserves it. Great job to Fearrington staff! Pros: Great overall restaurant. Fun atmosphere. INCREDIBLE STAFF! We went to the Old Granary restaurant expecting it to be mediocre, but boy! Were we suprised! My wife and I heard that Fearrington had a new restaurant in it's village and thought it would be fun to check it out. Also, friends of ours had eaten there and said that the food was great and the service was gracious, and they had fun looking at all the folk art on the walls. We were pleasantly greeted at the door, and shown to a table in the middle of the dining room. Normally, my wife hates this, but the energy of the room was alive and we had fun. Our server was knowledgeable and very accommodating, and paired us up with a great wine that the manager had put on special that night. Our food was not the Fearrington House; but we didn't want that kind of cuisine. We wanted to be comfortable, and to enjoy the ambiance and each other's company, and the staff made that possible. The fried oyster salad to start was just wonderful! and the scallops entree was incredible! And by all means, save room for dessert! We had the Beltie Brownie and it was good to share between us. All in all, a totally inventive and charismatic restaurant. Fearrington, which we have stayed at before many times, has always impressed, but we didn't see this one coming! Go try it out for yourself and enjoy the experience in the country. It is 'in the middle of nowhere, yet takes 10 minutes to get there from Chapel Hill. Fearrington has done it again!
