Editorial review from Citysearch 2/14/2013

thank you for SUCKING on Valentine's Day. 2.5 hour wait to get to a table and there are no servers. When will the new Manager job be posted as the current person should be fired! Consideration was given to call the fire marshall as there were 10 deep WAITING for tables. Congratulations for the Spectacular screw up!!!\r more

OCEANAIRE? JUST SAY NO! 8/11/2010

Poor service - expensive - food was messed up by SR3429 at Citysearch Had lunch on Dec. 22 with large group. Waiter ignored us. Food was messed up - not right. Had a ketchup bottle explode all over a couple of people in the group which was hilarious but waiter was not so sorry about. Had to ask for the waiter multiple times and bring things to his attention such as refilling drinks, food was wrong and ordered coffee and was brought cup and cream but no coffee. Perhaps he was just having a bad day but for the price, it should have been so much better. Waiter did NOT adjust the bill for the all the problems. My opinion is that I will not be back. If I were to get a gift certificate, it would get sold on Ebay. On a scale of 0 to 5, I rate this place as a zero. However the bathrooms are really nice. Pros: Bathroom Cons: The list goes on - stay away12/23/09!<------------I'm with this guy!?(?????)? I HATED IT! Sat me at the very first table with my back to the door. Then we realized they were using us to make the place seem hospitable and not for rednecks. I was told; ""business casual"" I was waaaaay overdressed, yet the meals costs $28 for improperly cooked fish? Unfortunately for us we listened to his co workers *obviously poor paletes* & we've just returned from the Caribbean! Sorry suckers this isn't good fish. Especially for 30 bucks. The wait staff was deaf or inattentive, but dressed like Dr Giggles. Flip flops everywhere. Men in shorts and sandals. We deserved a discount for following the ""suggested dress code"" while making reservations. Shame on you Oceanaire for pretending to be a high class establishment. 1 Star. more

Great seafood, incredible service 9/8/2009

One of the bell persons at our hotel put us on to Oceanaire. It was so fantastic that we went back with five additional guests a second night. Those guests who love oysters raved about the selection and the quality. Their 8oz glasses of wine for a little more than the standard 4oz price was a delight. And, oh, the desserts! Over our two visits we shared the dreamsicle, the brownie, the strawberry shortcake and the stciky toffee pudding--all were delicious. Finally, the waiter, Michael of Chicago, makes the whole experience one of the most wonderful dining experiences I've ever had. Our guests the second time actually applauded him at the end of the evening. Pros: everything! Cons: nothing! more

Oceanaire - Never a Bad Experience 7/30/2008

I have just read some negative reviews about Oceanaire and wanted to write my own. I have eaten there on several occasions and NEVER had a bad experience. I typically get the mashed potatoes, asparagus and crab cakes and ALWAYS enjoy it! I have never had a bad waiter either and the ambiance is fabulous, great drinks and everyone is always nice and friendly. Pros: Consistent Food, Good/Romantic Atmosphere, Great Drinks, Good Service, Very few Children! :) Cons: Parking more

hmm i dont know 4/28/2008

well this is an awesome place to dine at as far as interior values go.......but anything other than that is just average. i definatly expected more from an upscale restaurant.! my husband and i finally decided to break down and go to this damn joint! i wish i would spent my money elsewhere. wait staff was so so. they were quick to get you going, but went down hill after order was put in. definatly didnt leave a good tip that night!!! then our food was horrible, i had crab stuffed sole. which was freakin horrible. i wanted to spew, let me tell you, it literally tasted like hot cat breath!!! nasty, my stomach turns just thinking of it. :P Pros: awesome setting, and great grill work Cons: horrible wait staff, and horrible seafood more

As usual, good, service was slightly off 2/24/2008

Very good seafood. You will have to pay for it though. I had a birtday and they gave us a nice private booth and even provided a free dessert. Nothing spectacular aside from the lighting of the brandy poured over the whipcream. Service was great except that our appetizer oysters came out after the entree, so we were trying to eat 18 oysters and not get our entreee cold. That was the only fault. So the place is expensive, but its nice to have this in INdy. Pros: Fresh seafood in INdiana Cons: Service was slightly off, and prices are very high more

Excellent Seafood!! 1/2/2008

If you like seafood this is the place for you!! The atmosphere is very colorful with a very cozy and friendly atmosphere. The staff is excellent with catering to your every need and friendly personal conversations. I have been a handful of times and it?s been great every time!! All the food is super fresh from the appetizer (jumbo shrimp) to desserts (baked alaska)!!!! This place is a must try for authentic seafood lovers!!!!!!!!! more

Food was not that good, and parking was impossible 5/21/2007

SPECTACULAR!! 12/8/2006

Every year for our anniversary, my husband and I pick a nice restaurant to visit. Last year we went to Emeril's Delmonico in Las Vegas. This year we picked the Oceanaire and we made a wonderful choice! We were a little early for our reservation and decided to have a couple drinks at the bar. I had the best apple martini!! When we were seated, we were promptly greeted by our server. He advised us of the portion sizes and that it would be a good idea to share. We ordered the shrimp cocktail which was excellent and then proceeded with the spinach salad with hot bacon dressing. They were both awesome!! I ordered the Maine stuffed lemon sole and my husband ordered the mahi mahi oscar. Not only was the food excellent but the ambiance and service were exceptional!! We absolutly had no room for dessert. It is a little pricey but well worth the cost for special occasions. I would recommend to anybody who enjoys great food, ambiance and service!! more

Amazing crab cakes!! 7/18/2006

The Oceannaire is very elegant and beautiful to look at, but the food is absolutely amazing!! One of my favorite things to get at seafood restaurants is crab cakes and theirs were out of this world. So, so delicious. It is expensive if you aren't used to spending this kind of money on a meal (I'm not), but for special occasions (we went there for Valentine's Day), this place is unbeatable!! I absolutely loved it. Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food Cons: expensive more

Great Service and Food, phenomenal experience 7/17/2006

Just moved from NYC and wanted to try a night out at a nice Indy restaurant. Was not dissapointed in any way. Reservations at 8pm, had wine at the bar and were seated at 8:15. Place was busy on a Saturday night; the service was prompt but relaxed and unhurried. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. Started with some raw oysters and split a crabcake for appetizer. I had halibut ""oscar"" and girlfriend had tuna sashimi. Finished with creme brulee. Definitely one of the finest meals I've had in years, and just as good if not better than the finest restaurants in NYC. Will definitely return. Pros: Food, service, wine list Cons: parking difficult more

Incredible! 11/3/2005

I went to The Oceanaire for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The waiters are very knowledgable about the menu and a great help. The wine selection was amazing. Everything was prepared great and we had prompt service. I enjoyed the atmosphere as well. I would recommend The Oceanaire to anyone who wanted a great dining experience. Keep in mind this is a pricey restaurant, but it is worth every penny. Pros: Valet Parking, Atmosphere, Fresh Food more

GREAT GREAT GREAT 7/27/2005

I had an amazing time! I dine out quite a bit but not downtown and my first experience at Oceanaire has me WOW'd. Downtown seems to be moving in the right direction. The food was great, wine was great (big pours) and our server had a clue as to what was going on. Yes, it was not a cheap dinner but it was worth it. I would rather pay and have a memorable experience vs. eating for less and regreting it. My $.02. Pros: FOOD, WINE, SERVICE more

GOOD FOR POPCORN SHRIMP 7/6/2005

I am single so I dine out a lot so: Extremely poor service waiter did not know what his menu. Quality of food average for a so called great seafood restraurant there are better choices. For 75 dollars for lunch I expected more than the cheapes frozen POPCORN SHRIMP with lettuce....price nearly 10 dollars They must think the customer is stupid. Ambience is good so it has potential but there are easily better choices for seafood in INDY or Chicago Pros: decor Cons: food quality, service amatuerish more

Magnificent 6/20/2005

What a lovely restaurant! First of all, you walk in and are greeted by the beautiful art deco-ish decor in pleasing blues and silvers. The food is incredibly fresh and flown in daily so the selections may change. The seafood tower appetizer is scrumptious, including a whole lobster, oysters, shrimp, crablegs, etc. I prefer to choose my own fish and have it made how I like it rather than their preset entrees with their various sauces, which I find less tasty. Desserts are also top notch and big enough to share. Expensive but worth it for good seafood in Indy! Pros: Decor, Service, Freshness Cons: Price more

Southern Girl HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! 5/2/2005

My husband & I loved this resturant. We are from the south & love going to New Orleans especially for the fresh Seafood. We were in Indy for a long weekend & were craving some good seafood. We did find the place to fulfill our taste. Very Romantic and if ever back in Indy will for sure go back......Highly Highly Recommended worth every penny. OH BTW Great Martini's:-) Pros: Great Service, Wonderful Martini's, Great Atmosphere more
