Only for Dessert 4/8/2010

My 2 friends and I came here for dinner one night. We started with the swiss cheese fondue, then the sampler dinner with each meat, and ended with a smores dessert. The cheese was very unappetizing and tasted only like wine, even after the waitress brought us more cheese. Needless to say this was taken off of our bill! Dinner was alright, nothing too filling at all. The Chicken Bouillon cooking broth was good. To finish the night the dessert was excellent! Who could complain? Melted chocolate flambeed in front of you with a dipping plate of cheesecake, cherries, strawberries, graham crackers, rice crispy treats, bananas, and more! Will only be coming here for dessert in the future! Pros: Love the atmosphere and the hands on experience; dessert Cons: Prices; Cheese Fondue more

So So Food, Good Waitstaff, very overpriced 4/5/2010

Had an occassion to take the family there for a birthday. Not sure exactly what to expect but had heard good things about the restaurant. Food is OK, definately not good, considering all the great restaurants in providence you could go to. The prices are definately not worth the food. Although I would compliment the waitstaff the meal took forever. \r For the money you can definately find a much better restaurant with better food and atmosphere and a short walk or drive away. Save the money and find a restaurant that provides quality cuisine in a friendly, warm atmosphere. If you like the gimick of cook your own food then this is your place. But for good food at reasonable prices, served in a much more timely manner you can throw a rock and hit a dozen better restaurants Pros: Waitstaff is pleasant and helpful Cons: Food is at best so so, and way overpriced more

Very expensive 1/10/2010

This place is way over-priced for what you get for the money. We had to return our cheese, because it was so disgusting. The chocolate course was fine, but overall it was a big let down. Pros: Something different Cons: price more

Worst value for money I've encountered 4/22/2009

The food was ok but the place is designed to empty your wallet. Outrageous prices; waiters who push things you don't want. We took my daughter for her birthday and brought our own cake and candles. They warned us there would be a ""cutting fee."" They charged us $27 to serve us our own cake! And they didn't even cut it. Pros: The fondue is ok Cons: Keep your hand on your wallet more

Lots of fun and great food 2/12/2009

My husband and I went there with another couple last weekend, we had the best time although a little concerned about cooking our own food at the table at first, it was fun and easy. Our server was excellent very friendly and informative. We shared the spinach and artichoke cheese fondue and each couple had the sampler which included many different kinds of meat to chose from. The desert well what can you say about chocolate and a assortment of delicious items to dip. We will definitely be back and can't wait. \r \r I don't know how anyone can give this place a bad review unless they don't enjoy a good time and good food. Please give it a try. Pros: fun and delicious as well as excellent martinis also Cons: cant think of one more

Wonderful experience. Fondue is a great time for all. 1/31/2009

Incredible. Great experience. \r \r Anyone that eats at a fondue restaurant, then writes a bad review because they had to cook their own food is foolish. That's like eating at a sushi restaurant and writing a bad review because they served you raw fish! Or.... like a vegetarian going to Ruth's Chris and complaining about all the ""Meat"" on the menu.\r \r I have not eaten at this one, but have eaten at many others throughout the U.S. All have been good to great so far.\r \r Fondue is an ""interactive"" dining experience. Only one course is truly cooked by the guest. Go to a Melting Pott and check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed....unless of course you were expecting Chili's or The Olive Garden. Pros: Different from all the rest Cons: Long dining time. Plan for it and you will not be upset. more

What an experience!!!! 1/6/2009

Friends had raved about this concept for years which made us yearn to go. Although we must admit we were extrememly apprehensive about cooking our own food. What an incredible evening. Service was personable and exremely accomodating. Our server thoroughly explained everything. The layout is a bit confusing as they take advantage of every nook and cranny of the restaurant while making each and every table feel intimate. Completely unique to anything else that is available in town. A great experience that which was left us without doubt that will bring us back many more times. Make a reservation as I overheard the wait time on the Saturday night that we went was over 4 hours! Pros: The experience, the great food and knowledgable staff Cons: Long wait for reservations. more

Overpriced food... 12/27/2008

Good thing there was a hot plate at our table as the restaurant was really cold...at best 65. We waited about 15mins for our server...I was about to walk out as it wasn't busy at all. She was pleasant...their table speach is canned...you're not paying for the food, but a side show. Eating/cooking boiled meat...lame. The only good dish is desert...way over priced given they don't pay a chef to cook anything. Pros: Nice surroundings Cons: food/cooking your own meal more

Exciting night out! 11/9/2008

I haven't fondue'd since the 70's so I was excited to see that there was a fondue restaurant coming to Providence. I had a wonderful evening out with a few close friends. The four courses kept us intrigued and very full all night long. The server we had, Kayla, knew so much about the food, different sauces for the meats and veggies, and the different ingredients, and even answered all of our 10,000 questions with a smile! My friend had the vegetarian plate, and two of us split this platter with peppered duck, filet mignon, chicken, shrimp, teriyaki sirloin, and potstickers. It was absolutely magnificent. I recommend to all looking for something different, fun, and delicious to indulge! Pros: Food, service, ambience (beautiful place), treat you like GOLD! more

Great Fondue Experience!!! 11/5/2008

I had heard mixed reviews about this location of the MeltingPot, and thought it best to try it out myself. My experience here was fantastic! \r I had 8 oclock reservations and was sat immediately to my table. It was my girlfriends birthday, and they had a card out on the table waiting for her. She was very surprised and happy that that was there for her. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. I ordered the Big Night Out, and a bottle of Cabernet. The server was a little nervous opening the bottle at our table, but she did a good job nonetheless. \r Our cheese was great, we ordered the Spinach and Artichoke cheese, and can't wait to come back to try the other options.\r Cooking our own food was kind of fun, and allowed my girlfriend and I to talk while we waited for it to cook. \r The dessert was our favorite part of the night. We ran out of our dippers before our chocolate and asked our server if we could have more strawberries and brownies, and she brought them out to us at no extra charge. \r Overall I'm very glad I had dinner at the MeltingPot and my girlfriend agrees, we can't wait to go back! more

A superb experience. 11/5/2008

Tried it for the first time for a girls night out with a few friends. Signed up on-line and got a coupon for free dessert which was one of a kind. From the time we walked in to the last bit of delectable chocolate, this was one of the best nights we ever had. Service was great, personable experience, great atmosphere, cheese and dessert was superb. Can't wait to return. Would recommend it as a new experience instead of the old onesto try. Loved every moment. Pros: Great night out, easy and cheap parking $1 Cons: Huge portions. more

Worst dining experience! 11/4/2008

This was the worst resturant I have been to ever. Twenty minute wait for drinks, that were warm. Who wants to pay over $50.00 for raw meat and veggies you have to ""cook"" (boil at your table) The meat was described as ""filet mignon"" , what a joke. The chicken was chunks of fat and the salmon was from the belly, all the cheapest cuts of meat at a high price. The veggies and potatoes were cut so large they took the entire meal to cook, even though the inexperienced waitstaff insisted they would only take 2-3 min. The lay out of the resturant is awful, the bathroom is in the back, up a set of long stairs, passed many tables, not very user friendly. I have and will continue to tell everyone not to waste their time or money at this resturant, when there are so many other excellent, local and family owned places. Cons: If you have plans for a show, do not go her you will miss it because it takes forever! more
