Best

For the Kids, highlights of this museum are Dinosaur trail where they can watch the technicians work on fossils, see the ice age and more, at Inside Ancient Egypt kids can unravel...

Worst

I cried when I went to the Field museum in Chicago because they had no Greeco- Roman art. The best thing about my time there was probobly getting a discont on admission (If you do...

Pirates Exhibit Not Worth The Extra Money 8/18/2009

The Pirates Exhibit is not worth the extra money for admission. The facts seem completely false-the exhibit seems more like being at Disney than in an educational institution. It is a mistake to bleieve that you can use or must use what is no longer being used by one entertainment venue in an educatinal exhibit-or that facts should be made up to make it more interesting. It was a waste of my time and my money. Pros: Large and Varied Exhibits Cons: Recent Special Exhibits Have Been Less Than Stellar more

FANTASTIC 11/16/2006

This museum is so diverse. There are so many different exhibits to see. You can spend many hours here. We are members even though we live in Indiana. They have a great membership program for people more than 100 miles away. We go at least 4 times a year. Very easy to get to. more

Don't waste your money on King Tut 7/11/2006

The museum on the whole is awesome, but don't waste your money on King Tut. He's not even there! The attraction was over-crowded; and since many others paid for the ""audio tour"" they were standing in front of the exhibit for long stretches of time, while I wanted to look at it and move on. We went first thing in the morning and it was wall-to-wall people. I am glad that I got the $5 discount from Jewel. ""jeweltut"" is the password for the discount. We were out of there in 45 minutes. It was a huge disappoinment. Afterwards we had lunch at the Signature Room and strolled Michigan Ave., so the day wasn't a bust, but this was! more

King Tut exhibit was a disappointment! 7/7/2006

I had been looking forward to seeing the King Tut exhibit for months. The way it was billed in the advertising truly made it sound as though the famous mummy himself would be there. Going through the crowded exhibit, we did see a lot of cool things from his tomb, and I found my anticipation growing. At the final room, rather than see Tut himself, we were treated to a digital presentation of the mummy. I was one disappointed camper! The museum employee in the final room told us that Tut had been damaged once and could never be moved anymore. That is perfectly understandable, but I think that if this is the case, the advertising for the museum should have made this clear. My husband and I spent extra money to get into the exhibit because we were excited to see Tut, and we don't have a lot of money. I am truly frustrated! more

Don't waste your money on the Pompeii Exhibit 2/15/2006

The Pompeii exhibit was so overcrowded, it was ridiculous! You could get more out of a book I believe. DO see the Egyptian exhibit, artifacts are amazing! Pros: egyptian exhibit, great restaurant, overall good value Cons: pompeii too crowded, park & walk, moth ball scent more

Somewhat boring... 8/28/2005

While the musuem features the most well-preserved fossilized Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton as well as a life-sized Egyptian tomb, the endless variety of stuffed animals and fake plants was admittedly somewhat boring to this visitor. Your time visiting Chicago is better spent at the Science and Industry Museum or the Peggy Notebaert Nature Center. more

EXCELLENT 7/22/2003

This was an excellent place to visit. It was not too adult for children, but not to childish for adults. It had wonderful exhibits and something for everyone. Informational with being boring more

AWESOME!! 2/10/2003

I love the museum! IT IS AWESOME!! they have a lot of interesting things. they have more than one could probably cover in an entire day. they have mummies, decomposing humans, a vast collection of butterflies... i mean, i can not even start to name all the gorgeous things there. the tickets are around $5 but they offer free days. Pros: inexpensive, vast collection Cons: bad parking, pay extra for exhibit, crowded more

A WORLD CLASS MUSEUM 8/30/2002

We recently had the opportunity to spend time in several of Chicago's museum's. The person who is reponsible for advertising the quality of the Field Museum isn't doing their job. Without question, this museum is one of the best kept secrets in the midwest. more

yesterday today 8/2/2002

The collections of the Field are simply inspiring. Of particular interest is the native american tepee and the wonderful, large totem poles. The pyrmid display is also awesome, right down to the real mummy. more

Always interesting 7/29/2002

I am always amazed at the Field Museum, they are constantly changing and updating exhibits. There are many programs for kids, and numerous items of historical importance. I was lucky enough to catch a performance of the Teens Together, music theatre workshop at the Field Museum, and was very impressed by the informative, entertaining, enjoyable performance by young teens. Very impressive. Visiting the Field Museum is like stepping back in time and reliving some of the most interesting times of our civilization. Pros: inexpenxive, good parking more

WOW, A Real Dinosaur 7/23/2002

This place is Great! Got to go on Free Day and see everything. Loved the displays and the lay out. Will go back again and again. Nice kids area in the lower level. Everyone should make the trip to see SUE! Pros: Free Day, BIG, WOW more

See Sue 5/30/2002

I didn't see Sue yet, but I've heard great things. This is another great classic museum for me since childhood. Plan on being there all day to see stuff. The Shedd Aquarium is almost next door, see the dolphin show for an extra fee. more

It's gigantic 5/23/2002

There is a ton of stuff to see here and you really could spend the whole day without a problem. I do get a little irritated, though, with the additional charges for ""special"" exhibits such as Chocolate or Cleopatra. Having to shell out for two tickets is a little silly (and pricey). Parking is easy most of the time, thanks to the big Soldier Field parking lots. Or get the 146 bus and it drops you right in front. Pros: Great stuff to see Cons: Multiple tickets more

Big pleasures 5/20/2002

The Field Museum rocks--it is physically huge and packs an infotainment wallop. Sue, while impressive herself, is made even more interesting with a behind-the-scenes exhibit of facts, theories and restoration tidbits upstairs. You can literally get lost in a seemingly endless maze of display cases featuring almost thousands of animals (my boyfriend loved that the Field Museum has the lions that inspired the movie ""The Ghost and the Darkness""). The museum's vast permanent collection spans the globe, from Asia to Africa and the Americas. My advice would be to get there early and plan to eat lunch at the museum (there's a McDonald's and a Corner Bakery), so you can have as much viewing time as possible. I don't know if you could see and do everything in the Field Museum if you went every day for a week--but that means it is always interesting. more

Spend a day ... or two 5/15/2002

This museum is a great place to spend a day whether you're a kid or an adult. Tons of hands-on activities keep children interested and there's plenty to amuse and educate grown-ups, too. There's much more to this place than just dinosaurs and there's too much to see in just one trip. Pros: Great collections Cons: Crowded on weekends more
