The Dogwood

The addition of food at The Dogwood has been long awaited! They started serving food just before SXSW and it has generated a great buzz for superb bar food. The Dogwwod Burger is 8 ounces of hand crafted Black Angus beef, fried green tomatoes, white queso, lettuce, pickles, onions, and served on a jalapeno-cheddar bun. Yum! The Chicken and Waffle Sliders are outstanding! You get (2) whole pieces of golden fried chicken breast between (4) fluffy buttermilk waffles that makes (2) massive sliders. Homemade peach preserves give a nice southern touch to this dish. The Fried Green Tomato Stack is another favorite of mine. You get (4) layers of perfectly fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and crab meat on each layer. It's served with a house Remoulade that is to die for! There are many other that are very appealing. These are my top three choices so far. The $5 Burger special on Monday's are now on my Monday To Do List. 1/2 lb burgers for for $5 dollars and great service...Thank You...Yes Please. more

The Dogwood is a fun, upbeat bar in the W 6th District, geared toward young professionals, but attracting the 20-40-something crowd and lots of attractive girls and guys. Half of the bar is outside, surrounding a huge rectangular bar, and the other half is inside. The finish-out is well-done, with great lighting and outdoor fans to keep you cool in the summer. There are TVs within view from virtually every spot in the bar, so it is a good place to watch the game, or to go to after watching a UT football game. It is also a good happy hour spot, or one of the only hopping spots on W 6th on Thursday nights. This bar is trendy, but not snooty, and definitely not a flash in the pan. I highly recommend. more
