Our food came out on time and was prepared just right. I would recommend this place to a hungry person the portions are huge! Service as ok but the food made up for it! I

Worst

This place is over priced and not that big a deal. I went in for a burger (they weren't that busy) but a problem developed with my order. First, a guy who wasn't my waiter bro...

this is one of my favorite places to eat lunch and I go quite often. The huge garage-door windows and tv's are nice, great to watch an afternoon sports game on. You choose your burger and everything on it, which is fantastic. If people are complaining about the food in other reviews, it is their fault, they chose it to the t. anyway. the chili fries are great and the apple crumble is fantastic. I also like to burger in the bowl option. service is spotty, but that is not the draw. i recommend this place Pros: choose your burger, apple crumble, decor Cons: , gets crowded more

Very thoughtful burger place 7/23/2004

Went with some co-workers, and I was pleased. Atmosphere was simple and clean. You use a clipboard to order. I had a 1/3 pounder with lettuce, tomato, chiles, red onion, guacamole and Southwest Caesar dressing, which was a little messy and very good. The onion strings are better than the shoestring fries. Soda is self-serve and refillable. It's a decent value. Sufficient parking in the mall lot. I'd come back, more often if I lived on the Westside. Pros: Very good burger, Onion strings, Priced about right more

It definately is in the running for the best burger.... The atmosphere is very cool and the place makes you feel like you are not an a greasy spoon. It is burgers for the modern age. Not even close to the best burger 5/30/2004

Having all the different unusual & exotic burger toppings you want is great. But it's of no use if they can't even cook the burger right. I went there once a few months back & asked for a burger medium rare. It came back to me nearly raw. Plus there was no kind of seasoning or flavoring added to the meat, like a little salt & pepper, perhaps. And as far as the price, it's not THAT expensive, but it's not fast food cheap either. It's enough though that you would expect them to know how to cook a burger to all different stages of doneness, but I guess not. more

Is this the best burger in L.A.? 5/17/2004

Certainly The Counter has the best selection of burger toppings, sauces, buns and extras. Customers check off their choices and hand a slip to the waitperson (hard to be critical of the service, which consists of handing your order slip to the cook and bringing the results to your table ...) The French fries are disappointing, I would recommend the Hamburger Hamlet-style onion rings instead. I dont drink alcohol, but the wine list looks good for what is basically a burger joint. Very pleasant atmosphere. The location is a bit awkward, mostly because Ocean Park Blvd. is divided; if you approach from the west you will have to go almost 1/2 mile past to find a legal U-turn. Park behind the mini-mall or underneath; the entrance faces Ocean Park. The tables get a little crowded at peak times, but there is usually space at the counter. Pros: Great burgers/topping, Pleasant atmosphere, Good parking Cons: , Disappointing fries, Can get crowded more

what a great find 5/8/2004

I came in town for business. I ordered the burger in a bowl. It was wonderful. You have some many options for a make it your self salad. The staff is friendly and the ambience is very good. The reproduction emeco chairs are cool. more

BETTER BURGER 3/9/2004

The Counter is not only a great burger - but it's easy! As a santa monica resident, there are not many options for quick, delicious food that isn't ridiculously expensive or simply middle of the road...I loved being able to customize my order with so many toppings. My family loved it and I could go more than once a week and never run out of new combinations to try. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Overall, this is just what Santa Monica needed... Pros: GREAT FOOD more
