ONE OF A KIND Portland find!! 9/19/2010

This place is AWESOME!! So I went there for the first time and was amazed at this concept. Creating art, having a beer and a pannini?? The food is reasonably priced and the really tasty. They have bistro food, soups, sandwiches etc. but very gourmet! The space is artsy and comfortable. You can purchase a canvas and rent some paints for a few bucks and be creative!! I guess they have quite a bit going on here, live music, art classes, wine tasting (affordable), once a week they bring in a live model to paint or draw! Super fun! Great for events! I had two events here, a great space for mingling and the owner is really easy to work with. Oh and they have parking! Close to the Pearl, I hear they also do baby showers, bridal showers etc. Awesome!! Portland has really needed a place like this!! more

Portland's Greatest Phenomenon! 8/4/2010

The Canvas Art Bar & Bistro is EXCEPTIONAL 6/21/2010

The Canvas offers a costumed model each Monday evening. If you like figure drawing or painting (or are keen on trying it for the first time) ....this is the place! Some artists from our painting/sketching group have been to a couple of sessions thus far and we could not be more impressed. Great models, excellent food, super-friendly staff, first rate atmosphere, pleasant music--it's all comfortable and welcoming. We encourage you to come to the Monday evening sessions..you will not be disappointed! Members of PPASP (Google ""PPASP Behind the Scenes the canvas"" to see results from a Monday evening session) Pros: excellent models, life drawing & painting each week, GREAT! more

Lovin the Purple Couches 5/21/2010

I love the design of this place! The original bricks from the building were used to construct the bar, the purple and green walls look great together...and did i mention the purple couches!!!??? I was invited to the opening night by a friend and have loved it ever since! I think the atmosphere is great and although i am not in anyway shape or form an artist I enjoy being around the creativity! I've been back a few different times and i always try to bring a new friend with me to see what they think..and hands down they always love it. This place is a must visit for anyone who visits or lives in Portland. Keep up the great work Canvas!! Pros: live music, green products, local hip owners more

Go there. Now 5/11/2010

This place is so warm and friendly. What I like most about it is that there's nothing like it Portland. The food is wonderful and so is the service. The art projects are super fun but it's also great for hanging out or meeting up. Kid-friendly too. more

great home away from home 5/7/2010

This bar/restaurant/coffee shop/art supply store/gallery has got to be one of coolest places in Portland. The Canvas opened recently and since then I have been going almost every day after work - it's basically on my way home. The owner's are a young, hip couple who have created a spot that is unlike anything else I've found around here. You can go in and grab a beer or some food and hang out and draw or paint without feeling any pressure about anything. It's a truly relaxing environment and they have a unique menu that includes amazing original quesadillas and sandwiches. They also have local beers on tap, outside seating, a comfy purple lounge area and decent artwork on the walls. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone - especially those with a creative side who just need a little inspiration. Pros: great people, delicious food, cool/relaxing atmosphere. more

Such a cool vibe 5/6/2010

The canvas is an amazing little spot tucked away in NW. The space is awesome, and has a great creative vibe to it. Whether you're meeting friends to have a drink, or by yourself getting creative; it's a wonderful place to go. The owners are friendly, and the service is good. Prices are well priced as well. =) I recommend highly!!! Pros: Great Atmosphere, food, and prices! and GREAT OWNERS more

Go Local! 5/6/2010

I love how new awesome places are always springing up in Portland. I just stumbled upon this place while walking my dog (I live in NW). I came in and chatted it up with the owners, a young couple, and was really impressed by the innovative concept. Its all about getting people to get together and create together! Rolls of paper, pencils and charcoal free for the taking... and it seems like they are lining up some cool events too! I haven't tried the food yet, but it looked good. Their beer/wine list was mostly local. And their art supplies were green. What's not to like about this new local spot in NW Industrial Portland? Pros: good food, good prices, good vibe Cons: more seating? more

Best idea since sliced bread 5/6/2010

wow. Cool doesn't really do this place justice. It has a fresh new idea and has put that into a super cool building. I don't know what the pearl was before it was the pearl but imagine this has that chic industrial feel that it might have. food is fab and great prices...and names! went to just look, walked, in and ended up trying a salad and sandwich (huge servings btw) and even used some of the free doodling stuff on the table, somthing I have not done since grade school! cool art on the walls. i liked that there were some people lounging and drinking, one was working, and a couple of gals were painting..good vibe! Not too artsy fartsy but rather just hip and creative. I'd go again...in a heartbeat. Oh! And as I was leaving a model came in to pose for sketching! Pros: great atmosphere, great food, cozy but hip, happy hour Cons: none. there is even parking! more

Great new concept! 5/6/2010

After hearing about The Canvas opening in NW, I decided to stop in for a beer and some sketching after work. The space is large, yet comfortable and there are tables and art materials for drawing or the option to simply belly up to the bar. The owner was there and was super friendly. I ordered a quesidilla, that I can't recall the name of, but it had beans, corn and cheese and was delicious and freshly made. There were a few young people just drinking and a few people working on paintings and the like. a great new idea for Portland. Give it a try for yourself! Pros: Beer, wine, cheap eats and art more
