Wine & food & walking around afterward 4/13/2006

The Burgundy Room in the Short North is a fun little place to come with a group of friends. The service seemed to lean a little toward European style the few times I've gone; they give you a little longer to dine and aren't constantly checking up on you. But they're not unavailable. They serve meals tapas style. Small platters of snacks that make up a meal. Here they are a little more intricate than other tapas bars. For instance, Jerked Mahi Mahi w/ sweet potato pure &habanaro butter sauce. We usually get a bunch of interesting dishes and share. And don't forget about the Wine Flights. They have at least 26 pages of wines to choose from! As an extra incentive to check it out, they serve Jeni's Fresh Ice cream in their dessert menu. (North Market Jeni's) more

Fine Columbus Tapas 12/18/2005

Name: The Burgundy Room Location: The hipster/artsy/funky/fashionable "Short North". If crowds aren't your thing, don't even bother if it's a "Gallery hop" weekend. On this cold Sunday eve, tables were plentiful. Theme: Columbus' typical casual, sophisticated style. Parking: Metered street parking or one of the nearby microscopic lots that will never be empty so don't even bother if its Friday or Saturday. Decor: Ample, warm and dim. Tasteful, low-key furnishings. Plenty of nooks and crannies, a central couch and fireplace(?), along with the usual four-top table arrangements. Menu: Tapas style (wide variety of easy to share mini-plates). Slightly unusual for Columbus' mid-western values (and appetites)? Big eaters might need a few plates. A full bar, wine list, dessert wines, etc., but no expresso!? Wait-staff: Helpful, friendly, retiring Price: Upper-middle tier pricing. Remember lard-ass, all those little dishes can add up! Wine-$6-$17, Plates-$6-$18 Recommendations: The mid-range Pinot-noir, inexpensive Chardonnay, Tuna tartar, Pulled duck w/cheese tortellini, Warm hummus spread, squash soup and Pistachio cheesecake. more
