Boys' Latin a once all white boys school now admits non-whites since the change in the country's civil rights laws. Many of the supporters including past and current parents and alumni are quite wealthy and or well connected in the Baltimore area. There is a small core of teachers and administration personnel that have been there for many years. There is a larger pool of high turnover teachers and staff that revolves around that somewhat entrenched core. There are many volunteers that contribute to the ongoing activities. These volunteers typically leverage their access to the wealthy parents and alumni as a trade off for their time. It's a very interesting school with strengths and weaknesses like anywhere else. If you're considering this school for your son the reviews and recommendations of the wealthy and well connected will differ somewhat from the views of the not so wealthy and not so well connected. more

This is an excellent school. We are proud to send three sons here and have been very pleased. BL has first-rate teachers and administrators who hold the boys to high standards. The school has an outstanding reputation and sets the bar high, encouraging every student to continually excel. more

Incompetent administrators, frustrated teachers with high turn-over, no real educational value in the classroom, save your money 5/6/2007

My son chose to go to Boys' Latin because he had friends there. I didn't do my homework and thus, didn't realize the schools reputation as the school of last resort. The reputation, sadly, is true. Parents with enough money to donate generously can get their sons out of every fight, every case of plagiarism, etc. while parents who work hard to pay the tuition bills have to watch their sons pay prices that others don't pay. There is no honor, and racism and homophobia are rampant. Perhaps even encouraged. The head of the upper school seems unable to listen to parents - she lives in her own world and cannot take in information - she cuts you off, doesn't address the real problems and is a blackberry junkie who cannot sustain a conversation. The headmaster seems lost and there feels like no connection between any of the members of administration. It seems more like a tug-of-war for power and the students are lost in the cross fire. The faulty who are excellent quickly disappear. The teachers who show up to collect their paycheck more than to teach kids seem to stay forever. In two years my son did not learn how to write - simply how to play poker. I have pulled my son out and we are moving on. Do your homework before sending your son here. The rumors really are true. \r \r Good Luck. Pros: lacrosse and football teams Cons: educational value, administration, some teachers more

BL is a great school 10/16/2005

Having had a son attend Boys Latin, I can not say enough about the quality of education, and the degree of care shown to your son, not only while attending BL, but also after graduating from BL. He still receives emails, and is kept abreast of everything by the school. While in college they kept in touch with him to see how things were going, and this helped to make his college life even better. They helped to re-enforce being his own person, and having high standards which assisted me in what I taught my son. I would give BL a 5 Star rating. Pros: Care, Communication, Follow Through more
