Best

Went to The Belmont during SXSW and had a great time! Ghostland was playing and the place was rockin'. Can't wait to go back.

Worst

Recently they changed ownership. I usually enjoy their happy hour on Sunday evening. It's really not what it use to be. Food is lacking in quailty. Service is pretty terrible....

Great Time Out 11/6/2007

Last night I went to the Belmont for drinks and dinner. We were seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. We soon discovered that it was Margarita Monday and ordered a round of $1 Margaritas. The ritas were great, and who can beat that price! I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and thoroughly enojed the moistness of the chicken and the fluffiness of the mashed potatoes. I'm not sure the name of the band that was playing, but it had a swing feel to it, and really made me want to dance. Overall, I had a great time out and will definitely be going back soon. more

Overall Excellent 11/2/2007

I went to The Belmont for lunch yesterday for the first time and was very impressed. The atmosphere is wonderful, with your choice of the tropical patio or the more intimate bar inside. My co-worker and I both ordered the chopped salad. The ingredients mixed really well together, and the dressing was light and tasty. The service was great and I will definitely be going back soon. Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Wonderful Place. 9/13/2007

I can't get enough of this place. The Belmont is the best bar to have opened in Austin in so long. The patio is to die for, the food is great and the service is on top. I have had the best of times at the Belmont. Do yourself a favor and go there. You won't regret it. more

Reminds me of Los Angeles 8/29/2007

The Belmont reminds me of LA and i love the rooftop bar...very hip...we've been there a couple times and there is always a nice crowd...great ambiance and cool place to go on a date... Pros: Very Hip more

Nothing to get excited about... 8/9/2007

The atmosphere is great...classic. The food...something is missing from everything they have...lacking the ""umph"". The service outside is chaotic, unorganized, and slow. The drinks are served well...but overall the Belmont needs to focus on service...instead of trying to woo the crowds...great service keeps people coming automatically. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Average food, poor service more

slow bar, okay food, nicely decorated 8/2/2007

The Belmont LOOKS great. The food lacks that ""wow"" factor that you would expect from a place with a Chef! The music is pretty lame, and the mixed drinks are just okay. The manager Brian seemed arrogant, and the cocktail servers are slow, slow, slow when the patios get busy. My friend ordered a lemondrop martini and it was horrible! Also, the patio uniforms are very unflattering. I might go back for the atmosphere, but I will stick to vodka sodas (hard to mess up) and eat somewhere good first! Pros: Patios, decor Cons: bartenders, cocktail servers, uppity manager, just okay food more

great service, great food, fun tunes. 7/25/2007

We were in fri night. the place was packed. we were quoted 1 hour, were down at 45 min. Marcus the waiter was as good a server as we have ever had. Great drinks, great steaks and a really good chicken. Pros: FUN! Cons: packed at 10pm more

Don't Waste Your Money Here!!! 7/19/2007

Great Experience 7/17/2007

After having lunch at the Belmont recently, I was thoroughly impressed. I found the staff to be both prompt and attentive despite a sizeable lunch crowd. A delicate balance of feeling attended to, but not bugged, was struck with expertise. Pros: Service and food more

Great service, great food...and Mai Tais!! 7/16/2007

...We stopped by the Belmont for drinks and ended up staying for dinner. The interior is not what we expected..dark and cool.....we had a great waiter (sorry I cannot remember your name!) but the service was friendly and speedy, then we went outside and had a drink and listened to the band and all in all we thought it was a great place...we will be back. Pros: great service...great atmosphere Cons: kinda busy..had to wait.. more

an Austin must 7/16/2007

Being a first time visitor to Austin from Maryland, the Belmont came recommended to us from our concierge. Our group chose to dine inside for dinner, however the next day we revisited so we could sit in the patio and enjoy the palm trees and music. Although it was very busy, the host greeted us right away and we sipped a cocktail while waiting for our table and met some friendly locals. We almost expected a little attitude from the staff but found our server to be unpretentious, friendly and knowledgeable. A suggestion of appetizers of French onion soup and friend calamari were outstanding. The crispy slices of jalapenos in the calamari added a tasty Texas twist, and the soup had ample amounts of cheese. Entree portions of the chopped salad with roasted chicken are humongous! We loved Austin, and definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting. Pros: beautiful decor, big portions, very good service Cons: might not be a good choice for kids more

Cool Cat Restaurant and Bar 7/16/2007

The Belmont is an Austin original which is one of the main traits that I look for when going out to eat in this city. This restaurant and bar is a pretty cool place with lots of good people watching. They have fun events such as Moonlight Cinema, Unwine Wednesdays and Margaritas Mondays. Their live music scene is fun - especially Mr. Fabulous on Wednesdays. The Belmont salad, cuban sandwich and Blue Moon on tap! Pros: Cool nightlife, good bar selections, fun events and music Cons: hard to park, sometimes too busy more

Always a good time 7/16/2007

I've been coming here every couple months since the place opened, but my girlfriends and I have recently become members of the Unwine Wednesdays wine club. I've been having a blast every week, and we usually stay for dinner too. The keylime pie is the best in town, and the staff stays on top of things. The decor is to die for, and there is usually a fun band playing on the patio. The rooftop is perfect for summer time! It can get a bit crowded on the weekends, but that's really to be expected. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service, Music, Unwine Wednesdays Cons: No parking, Crowded on the weekends more

Worst customer service EVER... 7/14/2007

It has been my experience that there are many wonderful places in Austin that serve good food , much like this restaurant. What sets the excellent restaurants apart from the norm is the manner in which they treat there customer. Tonight we had possibly our worst experience ever in Austin. The manager was extremely rude and confrontational. Promotional offerings by the restaurant were not honored. Management failed to honor commitments made by the staff as well as there promotional coupon. I would suggest that prior to using any promotional material (if you must go there) you request a manager on duty to commit to the promotion and not the waiter. Apparently what the waiter tells you doesn't matter.... Better yet don't go there at all and spend your money in a quality restaurant that has quality service. Cons: Horrible management more

Uninspiring Food! 7/11/2007

Food was uninspiring for the atmosphere. They should just go with appetizers and drinks. I can't understand the hoopla about this place. Pros: Good Drinks! Cons: Booooting Food! more

One of the best ribeyes! 6/27/2007

I had dinner here Tuesday evening with a couple of friends and the service was very good. I had a ribeye which was one of the specials last night. Ribeyes are my favorite so I'm very picky, but The Belmont had one of the best ribeyes I've ever had, even among the best $$$$ steakhouses. It's just very flavorful. I recommend it to even the most selective steak connoisseurs. Pros: great ribeye, service more

Great for drinks and dessert, go somewhere else for dinner 5/23/2007

My husband and I went last Monday night after reading all the great reviews. We ordered the appetizer special, crabcakes, and to be honest, the frozen ones that my mother picks up at Costco had more flavor and meat. They were all bread, and for $12-- total rip-off. We also both got the Red Snapper Specials for dinner. We had a debate over which had less flavor, the fish or the sauce-- incredibly disappointing. My fish also came out a little under cooked. The vegetables that came w it were good only bc they were really garlicky. But were just swimming in greasy butter. I would have left pretty disappointed except that luckily my husband ordered the molten chocolate cake-- it was absolutely amazing, and I'll be back for that-- but I would not eat dinner there again. We didnt make it out for drinks on the patio, but it looked nice. We had a couple martinis w our dinner, and they turned out w no problem. Pros: desserts, patio Cons: dinner more

Tasty Camamari, delicous Bread and OUTSTANDING Key Lime Pie! 5/20/2007

We loved the Calamari and the attentiveness of the waitstaff. We unfortunately had to send one of our steaks back because it was overcooked. We were visited by a less desirable critter half way through dinner, running along the back of the bench seating. Quite funny actually. One of the waiters tried to capture it, to no avail. We were given deep apologies from two different waitstaff and was offered complimentary desert. Service was outstanding, atmosphere was pleasant and the food was good. The Pomogranate Martini's could use a little more alcohol and less juice. more

Great service and a complimentary CD 2/21/2007

The service was warm and friendly, if a bit slow coming around the tables at times. The waiter helped me navigate an unfamiliar wine list and brought out several glasses to taste. Interestingly, he said that he enjoyed watching people taste wines, as it was exciting and something he looked forward to learning. Pros: Great decor, food is great, music Cons: Parking (if you don't walk), wine list doesn't include Italian varietals. more

FABULOUS food at lunch ! Chicken pot-pie GREAT ! Meatloaf .. FAB ! Burger .. WONDERFUL ! 2/20/2007

I have not had an opportunity to have dinner at the Belmont; however, I have had several lunches there and they have always been GREAT ! I especially loved the chicken pot-pie which was served i this cute boat shaped bowl. It was filling and tasty. I love the music at night and Chris must be the best bartender in town. I went in for the grand opening and sat at Chris' bar on and off through the evening. I didn't go back to the Belmont for over a month, I went to Chris' bar and he said: ""Hi Penny ! Good to see you again !"" I go to his bar ever since and he's friendly and quick. They have a decent red wine selection, which is my drink of preference (and Chris always remembers which one too). Matt ... you've done a great job once again. This is your best bar so far ! Keep up the good work! Pros: at lunch: great food and fast service Cons: evening: very crowded more
