Good Thai 10/6/2008

Having been to Thailand several times, and a Thai food lover, whenever I get out of town for work, I end up eating Thai almost every other night. Generally, I try to pick something that I have not seen on other restaurant's menus. Sometimes its very similar to another dish with a different name at another restaurant (different names for the same things). I got Chicken Long Hao -- fried chicken with three flavors. Presentation was very nice. Food was excellent. Very unique, in a good way -- lightly fried chicken coated in a thicker sauce. Didn't seem as uniquely Thai as some of the authentic dishes (i.e. stir fried in a thinner, juicer sauce), but I liked it for a change. Would go to this place again. Pros: Quality of food, Presentation Cons: Finding the place in the plaza more

College Students' favorite 2/10/2008

I attend nearby Santa Clara University and it's a great place to go for an off-campus meal when i get sick of on-campus dining options. My friends and I have frequented this place ever since it was recommended to us. Even my parents, who are real ""foodies"", love this place and is pretty much a staple for a family meal when they come visit me at school. The prices are great and the food is amazing; the servings are generous enough to have leftovers for the next day; a college student's favorite. The Pad Thai and Chicken Satay are my absolute favorites and lately I've ordered the Panang Beef Curry (SPICY). The place is a hole-in-the-wall type of atmosphere, and like everyone else had mentioned, a little hard to find at first; however, I usually take those as sure signs of high-quality food. I highly recommend this place to people who are looking for different options as far as food goes, and those who like Thai food in general. Pros: Service, great food Cons: location more

Great spicy food 3/10/2006

Awesome food for a good price. Not very romantic, but great place for lunch or casual dinner. Kinda hard to find, but park on the street and look at the map on the sidewalk, it should help you find it. Pros: Spicy food, Prompt service, Thai iced tea Cons: Sort of hidden more

Like downtown BK 10/20/2005

I've been to Thailand, and Thai Pepper is like going back to Bangkok. The smell of the food, the warmth of the smiles, the decor, and even the sometimes cramped quarters remind me of time well spent in excellent eating establishments in Bangkok or Pattya or Chiang Mai. The Thais are some of Asia's most gracious people, and this essence carries over to owner Tik's three restaurants in Santa Clara, Campbell, and Sunnyvale. In all places I've found the food and service to be true to Thai grace, custom, and tradition. When I got back from Thailand in '96, I craved hot spicy food. The only place I found to satisfy that craving was Thai Pepper. Even the Royal Family of Thailand would be proud of these culinary representations of Thai tradition, custom, and service. Sawawdee Kap! Pros: Authentic, Spicy if you ask, Smiles Smiles Smiles Cons: Limited seating, hard to find 1st time more

Hard to Find, but Worth the Journey! 10/19/2005

There are other places in the Bay Area (including Monterey/Carmel/San Francisco, etc) which are better known, and also are easier to find, but NONE with better food, better value, and a better ""feeling"" than Thai Pepper, on Monroe, near Santa Clara College. From the outside, it may look like a ""forgettable"" restaurant, but go inside and you'll get a meal, and service, that you will never forget! And the prices are reasonable, too . . . . I only wish that it were open on Sundays. Pros: Great food, Excel/Attentive Srv, Good prices Cons: Hard to find, Not open on Sundays, Outside unatractive more

Great Food and service!!! By-far my favorite Thai restaurant. Try the Thai ice tea with red peppers in it. You MUST ask for the peppers in the ice tea. Amazing, hot, eye openning, fire breathing good drink. Pros: Food, Thai Pepper Ice Tea, Service more

This is one of my favorite places to eat at. The Thai food is always fresh and flavorful. The staff is always friendly. Everything I tried on this menu is good. I recommend the duck curry and the basil eggplant dish. more
