Incredible wine and atmosphere! 5/26/2009

I love Swirll winery! I am a person who will usually only drink wine if I must, but never a lot ... That is, unless it's Swirll wine! They use far far less preservatives in their wines than store-bought wines, which makes it taste so much better! It doesn't have that sour bite that I don't like about other wines! Also, my brother suffers from migraines, and the preservatives in red wines will always give him a migraine - Again, unless it's Swirll! He is able to enjoy their red wine without suffering a migraine because of it! My husband and I (then fiance) also made 2 batches of the wine cooler-style wines to serve at our fall wedding! We drank some at the wedding, but most of them went home as wedding favors! We got RAVE reviews from our guests - Not only at the incredible wine, but the unique gift! Swirll Winery is fantastic, and a must-visit in Dallas! Pros: Great wine, great people, great service more

Best wine bar in Dallas! 5/20/2009

I recently moved to Downtown Dallas from Houston and was hoping to find a good wine bar. I passed by Swirll within the first week I was here and popped in. This place is fantastic! These folks have a great selection of wine, best cheese and meat plates in town, they make their own wine, and if you are so inclined, you too can make your own wine at their establishment. The staff is professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. Great for drinks before a date downtown or just going out for drinks. If you love wine like me, or you are new to wine and want to learn more, this is the place to go! Pros: Excellent selection of wine/cheese/meats, awesome staff! Cons: None that I can tell! more

fantastic wine bar! For non-bar people! 5/5/2009

This wine bar and winery in downtown Dallas is now under NEW ownership! They bought it a few months ago and completely revamped the wine bar. It is chic and sleek now. The seating is low and intimate in some areas and high and friendly in other sections. They did a great job of adding to the menu and adding additional options for tastings. Food is available for your parties and it’s a perfect place for a girls night out or a place for group events like team building while making wine. I went to one where they made wine at a bacherlotte party for the wedding. Pretty cool. If you are looking for a unique first date spot this was voted the #1 first date spot downtown Dallas. Give them another try if you have been before, it’s better than ever! Pros: Chic atmosphere great selection Cons: parking , but it is in the building so not really a con more

Wonderful Way to Spend an Evening! 10/18/2008

Wine tasting event last night was excellent. We were highly impressed with the quality of wine and the personal attention from Peggy and Louis. There is obviously a large base of repeat customers because most guests in the door were known by name and greeted warmly. We had such a great time, we were surprised to find that three hours had slipped away while we sipped our wine, talked, and munched on the cheeses, crackers, and fruit preserves... The wine was fantastic, low in sulfites and although we imbibed quite a bit, no one was hungover this morning. We even bought some to give as gifts. Highly recommended! Pros: excellent service, ambiance, delicious wine. Cons: parking downtown is never easy more

What a wonder place! 3/26/2008

What a wonderful place! We went here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary to bring back our memories of our honeymoon in France...it was amazing. Louis(owner) was our host. He was so friendly. He tasted wine with us, shared stories as well as explained the different cheeses, jams, fruits, the pairings... It was a wonderful evening. The only thing that would have made this better is if it was in an actual wine cave. more

No Need for Dinner...They will Feed You If You Ask! 1/13/2008

I went last fall with a party of 10 or so for a ""girl's night out."" We were given different appetizers (homemade meatballs, alfredo pizza etc...) with each tasting of a new wine. The pairings were perfect and the service was wonderful. Although we chose not to make our own wine, we bought several bottles from the tasting and will definitly go back. We were happy with our experience! Pros: The expertise and pairing of wine and homemade appetizers more

Avoid at all costs! 11/19/2007

Ambiance is really the only thing this establishment has going for it. The wine is sub-par and overpriced and the ""wine making"" experience really just involves stirring the mixture in a white plastic bucket after you empty the grapes from a plastic bag. More importantly though, the management of Swirll is rude in such an extreme way it became almost unbelievable. I would highly recommend avoiding this place, as there are far better wine bars in the area that understand how not to insult their customers. When spending $500-$1000 you would expect the customer service to be more comparable to fine dining than a gas station. Cons: Management is crazy... more

HORRENDOUS SERVICE - AVOID 11/19/2007

This was the worst dining/wine experience I have ever had. The people who run this place are incredibly rude and disorganized. Moreover, the quality of wine does not comport with the overpricing. I would recommend you avoid this place at all costs. For a good wine experience, chooose Times Ten Cellar or Tony's. more

Overpriced, Terrible customer service and extremely rude owners 11/19/2007

We went with a group of people for a friends birthday. We enjoyed being there and making wine. The evening was going well till we gave out several credit cards for paying the bill. The owners wife started repeatedly chiding us on not knowing the house policy of one credit card per group. Unfortunately, our group was never informed of this policy and had we been asked nicely we would have obliged. After being treated like that we obviously did not want to return in order to pick up the wine we made. The owner made a huge fuss over that and we finally paid the balance of the bill without the wine we made on a single card. The owner then very rudely asked the entire group to leave the resturant and slammed the door on us. It ruined a perfectly good evening and it was really embarassing for my friend celebrating her birthday. I would not recommend this place to anyone. more

Swirll Is the BEST! 10/6/2006

Swirll is the best thing to happen to downtown dallas. The concept of being able to make and bottle your wine in a setting like Swill makes for a fun and educational time. The quality of the product is unmatched. With the addition of wine by the glass service, it makes for a great place to hang out after work or on the weeekend, to unwind. The staff is SO friendly and goes out of their way to treat everyone as if you are their very best customer. Pros: Exceptional wine, ability to purchase wine by the glass, friendly and gracious staff more

TOP of the Dallas ""To Do"" list!!!! 10/6/2006

WOW! What a unique concept! If you enjoy wine then you must stop by Swirll. The owner's passion for the world of wine is apparent the moment you walk through the doors as you're transported to a cozy, quaint ""old world"" setting. One sip of their wine and you'll be asking how to make your own. It's also an educational experience as the staff is eager to share their knowledge about the different wines and the regions the grapes are grown. Pros: great wine, great service, great people! Cons: notta one! more

A Wine Experience! 10/2/2006

You can taste wine, buy wine- but much more! You can make your own wine at Swirll. No kidding. The hardest part is deciding which one you like best from about 40 different wines- reds, whites, blush and dessert. \r \r The grapes come from all over the world and make incredible tasting wine. You also get to choose a label and personalize it with your name, name of the wine, year- whatever you want to say on it. You make about 30 bottles at a time so its a natural for holiday gift-giving or just stocking your own closet. \r \r You can make a party out of it with friends. Then when you bottle it, exchange the different kinds of wines you made so you end up with a variety. \r \r We've done it for birthdays and several times just to make more for ourselves. We always have fun. Pros: Great tasting wine, fun experience. Cons: Downtown- but there's a parking garage in the same block. more

Great people, great place...and GREAT WINE! 10/2/2006

Good friends and great wine! What else is life about! Louis and Peggy Davion of Swirll have created a winery that is always interesting, inviting, and inspiring. Their love for what they do is obvious and shines through in their experience and professionalism. Besides all that...it's fun! Get downtown now! Pros: So many wines to taste... Cons: ...so little time! more

A gathering place for the finer things in life! Perfect for group events!!Small or large! 9/21/2006

Like their wine, Swirll is served up with style. Each visit brings you closer to a world that few are aware they can experience right in the heart of Dallas. The more you learn about Swirll the more you are drawn in. I came to Swirll when they first opened in 2004, one thing that has not changed is the same warm greeting at the door today as it was on day one. The wine selection has expanded ( you can buy wine too, you don't HAVE to wait for your batch to ferment :) ) and by popular demand Swirll has expanded its seating area for tasting and the staff to accommodate your bottling needs. Who knew you could make your own personalized labeled wine for as little as $6.00- $12.00 a bottle? MANY choices for the batch you create right there! Imagine opening YOUR wine at a party, for a gift, as a corporate celebration with the company name on it, AT YOUR WEDDING with you and your new life partners name on it!!!!! Wow! What a GREAT wedding gift!! Forget the $200.00 place setting !! Give the gift that will keep on giving! Can you imagine the bride and grooms faces when you offer to supply 26-30 bottles of wine for their reception? Oh, AND they can help you MAKE it perhaps as a bachelor or bridal gathering? Celebrate life at Swirll..an experience that is a journey from crush to fermentation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Unique and like no other !!!!Want to impress your friends? Then go to swirll and gather round for the reality of the finer things in life! Pros: Southern hospitality, Elegance and Style. Cons: You need to call for reservations, they book up fast. VERY popular! Is that a bad thing? more
