Enjoyed it thoroughly 1/24/2008

I had a very pleasant experience here. The menu had an extensive selection, service was excellent, food was too, every bit as good as I had in Japan. Prices were very reasonable. The give away for me was the number of clearly Japanese customers there while I was. more

It's B- / C+ grade sushi (with A being the best), not the best quality for the money either 12/27/2007

If you've never had sushi before then maybe you'll rave about Sushi Ya, but if you know anything about sushi (like I do) then you'll be able to provide an appropriate and accurate review. The bottom line: Sushi Ya has less than average quality, and their prices are too high (likely to pay for the high-end rent for location). This place looks like a hole in the wall (it used to be a Subway back in the day - so imagine the size) and the quality is average. This is B- to C+ grade level sushi with A+ being the highest. If they had better prices then I might give them a better rating, but it's not worth the money. The only positive here is if you're a local student w/ no transportation and looking to score some sushi nearby. Pros: Location, Location, Location Cons: Low quality grade sushi (B to C level), cramped place, too expensive. more

It was all well and good until the next morning 11/17/2007

I went to Sushi Ya only once with a group of friends. It was fine, nothing special. The next morning, I awoke with some of the worst sickness from the food I had ever had. After speaking with my friends who accompanied me to the restaurant, I discovered all of them had the same reaction, with exactly the same unpleasant symptoms, ensuring we had all contracted this affliction at the same location. If you go here, you may want to chase your dinner with a bottle of pepto bismal, or suffer the consequences. more

nice people, good food, fair price 2/13/2007

I love this place the people are always nice and sometimes they give you free sushi to try when you are done with what you have ordered. I have never tryed anything that i have not liked and i selective about what i eat. To the person who did not like the place it may have just been an off day, go back and give it another try. the only thing about the restaurant that people may not like is the look it is a little less then what it could be but it makes it realaxing. Pros: nice people, GOOD food. Cons: the look more

I heart Sushi YA! 7/8/2006

This place is the best. The first sushi I ever ate was here, and it was a Hawaiian Volcano Roll... it was awesome. It was served to me upon a flaming skillet, and it tasted great! Another roll that I would heartily recommend would be the Kamikaze roll... or perhaps the Diablo roll... both are equally delicious. Pros: Selection, taste, atmosphere... Cons: Prices are a little high, but it's good sushi, so it's worth it. more

Grocery Store Sushi 10/9/2005

What really impressed me about sushi ya was the selection of specialty rolls. They all sound delicious, but I only had the opportunity to try two of them. I ordered two of the most expensive rolls, but was unimpressed by the small slices of fish and thawed flavor of the fish. Do yourself a favor and walk a block east to OMI. Pros: Wide Variety, Friendly Staff, Location Cons: Value, Taste more
