Best

I have had sushi everywhere and I constantly return to Sushi Tora because it is the best I have tried!

I've never felt so ripped off by a meal 10/11/2009

Don't believe the hype. The fish is decent (but sushi den, japon, zanmai and more are just as good if not better. $12 for a very small caterpillar roll - for real. The shumai came with 3 dumplings for $g. We left hungry and ripped off. A $65 bill for 3 pieces of nigiri each, 1 roll, a handroll and some shumai, and 1 drink each. Downright offensive. Pros: Decent fish Cons: Small portions, over-priced, no atmosphere more

Probably one of the best sushi in Colorado 9/20/2008

My wife and I are regular at this place. The fish, most of the time, is very fresh. I recommend going for lunch on Saturday. Their Hamachi (Yellowtail) collar is really good. I also like the Toro sashimi which sometimes isn't available during weekday. If you like sushi, try to stick with nigiri. I personally don't like the maki (roll) stuffs as it has too many things that sometimes overwhelm the fish. Service is great when not crowded (Saturday lunch). Highly recommend. Pros: Sushi is fresh and is very well made Cons: None more

Real Sushi 11/11/2007

Still the best sushi in Boulder after all these years. I do go to Hapa now and then but when I want the real thing with great service, there is no place like sushi Tora. Pros: The Food, The Staff, The Service, Cons: None more

After 15 years in Colorado, I found the best place! 2/19/2007

First of all, let me tell you that I am Japanese and sushi is my favorite food. I once ate 48 pieces of sushi in one sitting. I've lived in Denver for the last 15 years of my life and over the years, I've enjoyed great sushi from many different and authentic Denver establishments like Sushi Den, Japon, Genroku, Banzai, Sonodas, Mori, Tazu, and even Sushi Zanmai in Boulder. But somehow, I had never been to Sushi Tora until this past weekend. What a big mistake that was. There are certain basic elements to making fine sushi and Tora got an A+ on every single one of them. First and foremost, the chef was Japanese! I'm not being prejudiced but I can not stress this enough when it comes to sushi. If you want the best, seek out chefs that are Japanese or someone who has trained under Japanese master chefs. Sushi-do (the way of sushi) is very much like a martial art and it needs to be taken very seriously. Next was their shari (sushi rice). Seems easy but the subtle flavor and the softness as well as the right amount for nigiri is one of the keys to making theirs such fine sushi. Then there is the fish. The freshness, the cut, and the portion was perfect in the way it draped over the shari. Also important is the wasabi. Many chefs catering to locals don't even put the wasabi in the sushi anymore but the chef at Tora did and that earned him extra points. Add to that, a variety of exotic fish imported fresh and direct from Japan, most I've seen at any sushi place in Colorado, made this dining experience the BEST I've ever had in Colorado. Their friendly staff made the ambience very lively. They are going for authenticity here and not trendy/snobby. I saw many Japanese customers which is also rare in Colorado. They're not cheap but that's usually is a good sign. I know this is a huge claim but trust me when it comes to this stuff. Sorry for the long review. Pros: fine ingredients and perfect execution Cons: crowded on Saturday nights more

Great food 8/23/2002

Their rainbow roll is fantastic, and the staff are always so friendly. They ALL said "goodbye" the last time we visited there. more

Disappointed 8/2/2002

We went to Sushi Tora after reading several reviews. I must say, it was quite a disappointing experience. Their sushi rice was bland, and their fish wasn't nearly as fresh as other sushi places within a few blocks. The service was also less than impressive. We definitely won't return. more

Good Place 5/28/2002

Sushi Tora is a quaint place with really good sushi. The price is right and I felt completely satisfied after my meal. more
