Fabulous decor 1/23/2010

The decor is worth stopping in and having a snack and some saki.\r Haven't eaten here for awhile - but really loved the interior design. Hopefully the food has improved - if so, I will return!\r \r If this isn't what you're looking for, take the drive to Pescadero to the one and only restaurant that serves amazing seafood, homemade soups and pies... only a half hr away from Half Moon Bay! Very casual atmosphere. Pros: love the room and 'things' Cons: not THE best food more

Wonderful Rolls! 2/12/2007

My husband and I ate here last weekend - we were out the door with two sapporos for about $50 - most of the rolls are 4.25 which is SO CHEAP! but they were also excellent. We had the pork potstickers which were good and the wasabi gyoza maybe? which were ok....sort of crispy and round. But we really loved the roll with macadamia nuts on it - original and very tasty. Overall I would highly recommend for a fun, great sushi dinner. Our server forgot a couple of items but was very sweet about it - great place for groups or casual... Pros: Macadamia-Nut Roll Cons: Slightly forgetful waitstaff more

Awesome Sushi 8/7/2006

I've been here a few times, and now, whenever I go down to Half Moon Bay for the day, I try my best to get in here and have some sushi. Some of the best, most original sushi I've seen, although it doesn't come cheap. And as the other reviewer mentioned, the staff can get very busy and service can suffer as a result. And definitely expect a wait; 45 minutes isn't unusual. PROS: Awesome sushi, creative dishes. CONS: Expensive, busy. more

Don't Waste Your Time or Money! 4/21/2006

The sushi is just ""ok"" and the service is HORRIBLE! I received the same snotty attitude from the owner that I have seen other people post about (I know she is the owner because her picture is on their website). Having worked in Customer Service, I am shocked that they have managed to stay in business this long with such bad attitudes! I would never recommend this restaurant and am sorry that we wasted money that contributed to their bottom line! You can get much better sushi and service somewhere else! more

Imperialism - Sushi Style 1/23/2006

It's hard to believe the postings that rate this restaurant so highly - probably employees or owners postings. There is no such thing as an off night here. The staff and owners will soon suffer a loss of business as a result of their rude behavior. The fish isn't always that fresh (we get fresher fish in Florida including Ahi and Ono from Hawaii), the rice is hard (been there 2 times just to make sure it wasn't an ""off night""). If I were to compare it to another restaurant it reminds me of the Sushi found in the basement of a train station (take your choice). In my honest opinion I think you can get better food, at much more reasonable prices, and much better service at Bennihanna's in Burlingame. They'll never see me here again. Pros: they have sushi, they have sushimi, they serve alcohol Cons: sushi isn't so good, sushimi isn't so good, service is terrible more

DO NOT EAT HERE! 11/22/2005

Do not eat here unless you want some rude service. I went for my second time to this restaurant because we heard the sushi was sooooo great. It was pretty good so we went back. When we arrived this time we had to wait 10 minutes before we could even ask for a table. We finally asked for a table for 4 and the hostess rolled her eyes and said ""it could be a half hour...40 minutes..you'll probably have to sit at the bar.."" Just rude...and made us all want to leave...so now we will never go back.. It's not that good so don't go there. more

This place is so cool! 6/28/2005

You'll love this place. I don't know who decorated it, but they're wildly creative. The sushi is great! This is a good place to take guests from out of town. It's a little crowded and the service isn't the best - takes a while for stuff to come. But I would definitly go back. PROS: Great decor, great sushi CONS: Longish wait, a little crowded more

Rude, rude, unprofessional! 5/7/2005

I have never been treated so poorly! We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and the owner told us it would be a ""few minutes"". We told her we wanted a table. There were only 3 two top tables. After 45 minutes passed, a 4 top became available. Three people came in with no reservation. It was obvious that they knew the owner, after some chit-chat she said ""this table just became available"" and sat them at the 4 top. I said ""excuse me, we've been waiting for 45 minutes"" her response, ""I can't place 2 people at a 4 top!"" I said ""then we'll take our business elsewhere"" and she had the nerve to respond ""fine then, I guess you will"" in a snotty tone in front of other patrons waiting to be seated. Pros: We found a great medi more

tasty sushi, lovely atmosphere 7/21/2004

Unfortunately, the previous viewer must have been to Sushi Main Street on an off night - which I have never experienced! The fish has always been fresh, intriguing combinations making you ask for more even when you are full, and the beautiful interior and fun popular atmosphere of this restaurant has always made me look forward to my next visit the minute I walk out the door! Prepare for a wait if you come late - it gets PACKED! Pros: fresh fish, intriguing cmbnations, fun atmosphere Cons: , sometimes hard topark more

Minor Disappointment 6/22/2004

So much hype about this place, I decided to visit it. The ambience was unique and creative, but the sushi was average at best. The rice was cold and hard, and the sashimi was not all that fresh nor was it well cut. It is not the bad sushi from a cheap restaurant, but it certainly doesn't measure up to the best. more

Simply the BEST! 7/8/2003

I've eaten sushi all over the Bay Area (and Hawaii) and Sushi Main Street is simply the best there is. The combinations are delicious and the fish is fresg caught from the local docks. One of the few places I know to get Hamachi cheeks. Pros: Awesome sushi, Superb Javanese Decor, Great Selection Cons: Crowded, Busy more

sushi on the coast 12/19/2002

The fish is fresh and save room for the banana tempura for dessert! Pros: quality of sushi, friendly service, Freah Cons: noisy, crowded, wait more
